@ tsmoha Agree. Hope for a good Tour, but the startlist is amazing. You will see later.
@ Anonymer Sieberg was stronger probably as there was a circuit with a short cobble section. Other riders don`t have a problem on this part but probably this gave him a tiny advantage.
@ VladuuTs Roche already won the double it in 2010, both ahead of Martin. In 2011 he was injured, now he has the double again. There aren`t many Irish riders in the DB. Hopefully he will join my team. |

Sorry for spamming at the moment. But I really want to start the TdF.
Summary of June
Results
Lars Boom had a great month winning two races. Also LL Sanchez and Fuglsang had a good preparation for their season highlight.
With Boonen and Contador other riders proved their good form for the Tour.
Protour
Fabian Cancellara is still leading quite well ahead of Martin and Schleck. We`ll see if he can keep this lead after the Tour.
Astana and Leopard are the two dominant teams this season. Garmin as 9th can still improve a bit for sure.
Continental
Sicard got the lead back after Viviani was quite successful in the last weeks. But many other riders will still be able to fight for the overall win here, too.
With Europcar, NetApp and Saxobank 3 very strong teams are in a close fight here.
CQ
Already before the Tour even started Contador is leading this ranking. Can anyone beat him in the end?
Also nice to see that Boom entered the top 10 for Garmin.
This ranking is also lead by Astana ahead of Leopard. But Garmin isn`t far behind them and has good chances to keep the podium.
Awards
Contador deserved this win with dominating in the Tour de Suisse and both National Championships.
The Youth ranking is quite surprising. McConvey had no real results but he was 5th in both Irish Nationals. Well, obviously this is enough.
Races in July
The Tour de France is the highlight of the whole season probably. With Sanchez, Fuglsang and Haussler we have great chances for good results. We might improve in the overall but not sure if we can repeat all the stage wins from 2011. But we will give our best.
At the same time Martin will try to repeat his success in the Tour of Austria. With Stetina and Rojas our team will be competive on every terrain.
In the end of the month Sanchez, Martin and Vansummeren will lead the team in San Sebastian. |

The Tour De France, Grande Boucle or Le Tour is the most famous cycling race in the world. It`s held since 1903 every year for 3 weeks in July. It`s organized by the ASO and is the third biggest sport event after the soccer world cup and Olympia.
It`s supposed to be the hardest cycling race although the race profiles are often harder in the other 2 GT`s.
For many years it was Lance Armstrong against Jan Ullrich. While Armstrong is also participating this year Ullrich retired a few years ago. Since then it was often Contador against Andy Schleck. Could be the same this year.
These two are also big favourites for the 2012 edition, which will have lots of mountains and a great starting field.
Result in 2011
Spoiler 1 | Alberto Contador | Astana | 87h26'45 | 2 | Levi Leipheimer | Team RadioShack | + 4'02 | 3 | Andy Schleck | Team Leopard Trek | + 4'59 | 4 | Roman Kreuziger | Liquigas - Cannondale | + 5'05 | 5 | Denis Menchov | Ag2r La Mondiale | + 6'46 | 6 | Samuel Sánchez | Euskaltel - Euskadi | + 6'56 | 7 | Robert Gesink | Rabobank | + 7'46 | 8 | Ivan Basso | Lampre-ISD | + 8'03 | 9 | Vladimir Karpets | Team Katusha | + 8'26 | 10 | Michael Rogers | Rabobank | + 8'33 |
Contador dominated the Tour last year. Just Andy Schleck and Wiggins were able to stay with him in the mountains. While Wiggins crashed on a flat stage and lost enough time to fall back on the 11th, Andy lost most time in the long time trials. So Leipheimer with a surprising 2nd after a disappointing Giro for him.
Hesjedal as 12th was doing quite well.
P:1 | Heinrich Haussler | Team Saxobank - Sungard | 240 | 2 | Tom Boonen | Quick Step - Innergetic | 235 | 3 | Tyler Farrar | Garmin - Cervelo | 230 |
With Haussler riding for us this year, we hope to repeat his success last year. Farrar was also doing well but he has to stay at home.
KoM:1 | David Zabriskie | Garmin - Cervelo | 185 | 2 | Alberto Contador | Astana | 179 | 3 | Andy Schleck | Team Leopard Trek | 139 |
Zabriskie took care for the 2nd KoM win in a row for our team after Danielson in 2010. He also won one of the hardest stages.
U25:1 | Roman Kreuziger | Liquigas - Cannondale | 87h31'50 (1) | 2 | Robert Gesink | Rabobank | + 2'41 (2) | 3 | Guillaume Bonnafond | Ag2r La Mondiale | + 22'47 (3) |
Kreuziger and Gesink fought a lot for this jersey. This year both of them are too old but last year`s 3rd Bonnafond is still able to go for it. But he has hard opponents.
Course in 2012
A special thanks to Emmea for this variant. I haven`t tested it yet, but after his brilliant Giro variant, which I already played in this story I am sure, that this one will be great.
Stage 1: Ajaccio > Ajaccio (8km)
Stage 2: Ajaccio > Bonifacio
Stage 3: Porto Vecchio > Bastia
Stage 4: Bruxelles > Roubaix
Stage 5: Roubaix > Lille (36km TTT)
Stage 6: Amiens > Le Havre
Stage 7: Le Havre > Le Mans
Stage 8: Le Mans > Tours
Stage 9: Tours > Poitiers (Aerodromè)
Stage 10: La Chatre > Puy de Dome
Stage 11: Bordeaux > San Sebastian
Stage 12: Pau > Luz Ardiden
Stage 13: Bagneres-de-Bigorre > Sarroqueta
Stage 14: El Port de Suert > Andorre Arcalis
Stage 15: Perpignan > Nimes
Stage 16: Avignon > La Montagne de Lure
Stage 17: Gap > Sestriere (ITA)
Stage 18: Susa (ITA) > La Plagne
Stage 19: Moutiers > Briançon
Stage 20: Salle Les Alpes > Alpe d'Huez (100 Ans des Alpes)
Stage 21: Versailles > Paris Champs Elysees (41km)
A very hard course this year with a extremely hard last week. This one could suit Andy Schleck a lot with less ITT and many mountain top finishes. Actually it`s not the best course for our riders, who aren`t the best climbers but good time trialists. But we will give our best of course.
Highlights might be the 4th stage, which leads over some cobbled sections in the end. This is definitely a stage for Vansummeren and Haussler. Also the team time trial leads over many pavement sections. So the first week is already very exciting and could create many gaps before the real climbs even begin.
Garmin squad in 2012
Luis Leon Sanchez is our leader here, while Fuglsang can ride on his own normally. Just if Sanchez really needs help, he will have to work for him.
But hopefully Lowe, Löw and Vansummeren can do this work quite long.
Haussler will be the man for the sprints. He proved last year, that he can handle these stages. With Hunter and Vansummeren he will have great supporters on the final kilometers.
Millar is a very experienced rider, that can read the race situation better than other riders, He will be a very important factor and will get some chances in breakaways as also Meyer, who will have to help a lot but also get some chances.

Thanks all. Indeed a very hard competition. After the TdS most Astana and Leopard guys seems to be in a good shape unfortunately.
@tsmoha: Good decision. His Giro was brilliant. And I am also playing Pellizotti`s Vuelta I think.
Favourites
GC Contenders
Not much to say about Contador. He is one of the best climbers and also great in time trials. So for sure the big top favourite. He won all three GT`s. He proved his great form with his wins in the Tour de Suisse and the Nationals and he never kept a secret of his big goal: Tour de France win 2012.
Andy Schleck might be his biggest opponent in the mountains. He also trained a lot on his time trial skills. But still a far way to Contador in this part. In the TdS he had a good form as 3rd but we will see about it in the mountains, where Gesink was faster than him.
With 27 years he really wants his first GT win.
Wiggins is another big podium contender. A great climber and great time trialist. His biggest success was for sure the 3rd in the Tour 2009. In the Dauphinee he couldn`t show all his skills as the course was not hard enough. But he definitely can show more here. His biggest disadvantage might be his weak team. He will be isolated very early in the mountains.
Kreuziger became one of the big favourites for a future GT win. Last year he had his great break through as winner of the Dauphinee, 4th in the Tour and 6th in the Vuelta. Now he wants the podium although his performance in the TdS could have been better.
His former team mate Basso will be one of Lampre`s leader. He is still a great climber but also lacking in time trials. Also not sure about his form. After the 11th in the Giro you haven`t seen a lot of him. So a very big question mark.
Gesink really got a boost after his team change to Leopard. In the Tour de Suisse he was even better than his team leader A.Schleck. So let`s see how he can perform here.
Nibali is the second big name of the Lampre squad. He had a nice Giro with a 2nd. But the same than Basso. No sign afterwards. So Lampre`s second question mark.
Van Den Broeck was inconsolable after he missed the Tour in the last year due to an injury. He is one of the best clibmers with decent time trial skills and wants to go for a top 5. He was already 9th in 2010. This year he hasn`t shown a lot.
RadioShack`s hope is Brajkovic. Lance Armstrong is riding is last Tour probably willing to help him here. A top 10 is possible. Not more.
LL Sanchez is our hope for a top 10, what is very hard with all these climbers. But we will give our best. In the TdS he had some good days and some less good.
Samuel Sanchez is a former podium rider in the Tour and the Vuelta. So definitely a name for this race. But actually he isn`t the same any longer. Together with Anton he will hold up the Basque flag.
Sprinters
Cavendish is the fastest for sure. So the top favourite on the flat stages. But with that many mountain stages he will have to fight against the time limit if he wants to have a chance for the green jersey.
Tom Boonen shouldn`t have problems with the limit. He isn`t the fastest sprinter, but the one with the biggest experience. Definitely a high bet for the sprinter jersey.
Haussler won this jersey the last year. This time he riders with our jersey but with the same goal.
Bennati is another fast sprinter with good hill stats, but a big question mark about his form.
Greipel is HTC`s 2nd big name. We will see how the team performs.
Napolitano performed very well in the TdS and climbed much better than expected. So maybe the big surprise during the Tour?
Allan Davis is always very close to the elite but not constant enough. So we have to wait for the first stages to see his form.
Boasson Hagen isn`t the fastest sprinter but always finds the right wheel. He is also the best climber of all sprinters and can collect points on harder stages, which could give him an advantage for the points jersey.
U25
Van Garderen wasn`t riding the Giro as last year (4.). So he should be relaxed here and go for a top 10. He is also the biggest favourite for this ranking. As 10th in the Tour de Suisse he showed a good performance.
Taaramae has also good chances for the white jersey. But is he constant enough for 3 weeks. He was 8th in the Dauphinee but never entered the top 20 in a GT.
Bonnafond had a good improvement in the last years. He has no big wins yet, but can perform well in the mountains. His hill skills are a bit worse. Quite similar to Stetina actually.
The KoM ranking is alwys hard to predict. But hopefully one of our riders can make the team triple there. |

So what's your goal with sanchez and fuglsang ?
Green jersey with Haussler is probably not possible, not enough flat stages, I think a climber will take this one... |

Thanks for the comments.
@Anonymer: Sanchez will go for a top 10, while Fuglsang is not sure yet. Top 20 is definitely possible with him. But not sure how much he has to help. Also the KoM ranking would be a possible goal for him, but I normally suck in KoM rankings with good riders. So Lowe or Vansummeren might have better chances with breakaways.
The green jersey will indeed be very hard. If I want to win it I must have a perfect ride on the flat stages and also get points on some hilly and some mountain stages in the intermediate. |

Tour de France - Stage 1
Ajaccio - Ajaccio
The 2012 Tour de France starts on Corsica. The first 3 stages will take part on this hilly Island. So there aren`t any chances for the sprinters in this stages.
If a sprinter like Boonen wants the yellow jersey this year then he has to win the prologue.
Gesink couldn`t keep his great form obviously or he jsut had a bad day. This prologue was not very good.
10'41
His team mate and top favourite for this stage Cancellara makes it much better. A first sign of his great form. 43s faster than Gesink.
9'58
Can Tony Martin stop him? He might be the only big contender in time trials for him, but had already a very long season. 2s were missing in the end. But he was faster on the first checkpoint and so the virtual leader in the mountain ranking.
10'00
Kreuziger wants a great result this year. His time proves this. 20s to Cancellara but also 23s ahead of Gesink.
10'18
Luis Leon Sanchez has tough goals, but today he already showed that he has a great form. 3rd at the moment with just 10s to Cance.
10'08
How exhausted is Nibali after a long Giro? He is 31s back today, so in the middle of most favourites but faster than his team mate Basso.
10'29
Andy Schleck is also a question mark. In the TdS he wasn`t able to follow Contador and Gesink. But normally he jusdt had his focus on this race where he always was in top form.
10'43
Wiggins was a sure podium rider last year but a crash stopped his ambitions and even throw him out of the top 10. This year he wants his 2nd podium in a GT. His time is good but he can`t beat Sanchez. Great for us.
10'10
Last but not least Alberto Contador. In the Tour de Suisse he won the prologue ahead of Martin but today he finishes 3rd. So he shows his great form once again. On the other hand he is the only GC contender able to beat Sanchez, who gained important seconds on many contenders today.
10'02

And make sprinters in the maximum times in some hard stages
When i made an attempt only 1 sprinter (Allan Davis) get in Paris.
Indeed it`s a very hard variant.
I think riders like Cav or Greipel have no chance here. But Boonen, Bennati, Haussler, Davis, Sagan, Boasson Hagen can do it. But without a sprint stage in the end, there might be no motivation left to stay after stage 15. |

Nice kick-off for Sanchez. Looks promising. Good luck for the next stages!
