Stage 8
Morbegno - Bergamo.
There were two categorized climbs on this course, including a fairly tall and steep one at Culmine di San Pietro after 64 kilometers. However, the amount of flat racing after the descent suggested that the type of finish this stage would see was far from certain. Can someone please stop that Di Luca winning wave..
Broco was into breakaway group..but Leukemas and boys just keep atacking one after another. So he is already on the limit..and we have still 152km. to go..
Aerts crashes..he is ok..soon he will be back on the main group..
Final climb ...Codol and Danielson..first attempt..Not eben close Barloworld will close that fast down..tempo is realy fast.
Then Carrara..he aint eather lucky, This time LPR will eliminate it..
and then succesful one..Di Luca, Serpa, Pellizotti atack..28,9 km, to go..
Di Luca passes last breakaway rider Leukemans..Pellizotti is trying to keep up with him..E2 group Codol and Serpa..
second wave..Plaza, Siotsou, Astarloza, Nocentini, and Carrara again..
Descent..Di Luca all alone at the front again...
E2 Pelizotti and Serpa (who has taken over Serramenti leader role)
E3..Plaza, Astarloza, Pozzovivo, Luis León Sánchez, Siotsou..
Just before main group is close to catch Astarloza group..Bruseghin atack..Carrara and Danielson follows. Intresting how many times Carrara can atack ?
Plaza counters..then young rider top 2 duo..Chris Sörensen and Nibali
Nibali has cought Pellizotti and passes him..he is starting to be in form..I believe that after first rest day..we will see him at the first elite group..Danielson trying to follow.
Man who as like hiding all day..Garate jumping out from now where and going after Di Luca..
Di Luca is leading..Garate chasing him...then group with Nibali, Pellizotti,Plaza, Carrara, Colom, Serpa, Danielson.
..and another one. This 4th. in the row..tomorrow is Milano stage..i hope that sprinters can finaly beat him
Pellizotti group finished 46 sec. later..Plaza is in it.
Soler stayed at the main group and lost 2'10 to Di Luca..

Stage 2
Nesle - Marle
Stage 2 in sprint battle..windy day.
Cofidis is trying to sneak away..before the sprint. Blot is lead out man for Jean-Eudes Demaret. CCC Polsat team is trying to organize chase..Rodrigues follows that train..green jersey Cardoso (green jersey) is trying to ride down gap between Cofidis dup.
Last corner..and one km sign.Cofidis duo having solid lead..they got it? Then Polsat duo Bartlomiej Matysiak and Zelinski... Cardoso...Jörgensen
Last km...Blot has moved over..Demaret now at the front. Cardoso has passed CCC boys and is after Cofidis rider...only Jörgensen and Dion can follow him...
Casper has missed the sprint..he is coming at behind..but way to late.
Stage win for Demaret..2nd. Cardodo...3rd. Jörgensen. Casper?...7th.
2 time second places has given for Cardoso tour leader jersey. I dont think that he can keep this all the way...we will try.

Stage 9
Milano-Milano
This stage was a circuit race. The field took 10 laps of a 16 kilometer course in Milan (there was a 5 kilometer run-in before the circuits begin). The course is perfectly flat and figured to be a major sprinters' battle. We dont have seen classic sprint finish yet..with favorites. Stages 2 and 3 was like made for that ..but hugh crashes before the sprint spoiled it.
Leukemans again in the breakaway..
41km to go. Beuret is down..this is a warning. Sharp corners and fast speed..
35 to go. blue-white teams (Katusha, Quickstep) moved to the front of the group..they are working for sprinters like Boonen and Pozzato..
..and sprint..last 16km. lap has taken with super fast speed..stage has been dead flat..but this speed starting to hurt. Pinto in sprint..he has already noticed that this is quite different game. Speed is a lot fater..all riders are more agressive .. he will max anyway..
..and sprint..Paolini takes a lead..Mikhail Ignatiev is lonely rider at the left side..Loddo follows Paolini wheel..Di Luca is there. After 5th. in the row..
last corner..Paolini has not slowed down..he has even extended he's lead..Loddo still holding 2nd..Bobbie Traksel is coming..
..and a line..impressive win for Paolini..2. Loddo..3rd. Traksel...
Pinto 18th.Reality check...
Tempo was fast enough to drop climber Nuno Ribeiro.he lost another 2'15 today..
Rest day tomorrow..then we climb again and most important long TT is coming closer and closer.

stage 3
St-Gobain - Nogent-sur-Oise
we have to defend leader jersey. All team would be around Manuel Cardoso ...weather is just terrible..
First 3 laps was easy riding..at the 4th. 53km to go..atack Cornu and Kreutzweldt..
It takes over 30km to chase Cornu down...Cardoso has been in difficulty on every hill..this was just harder and harder. 18,2 km. to go and just one hill to take..
Last hill to take..and first time Cardoso is in serious trouble. Vilela who is wearing tram captain number..looking after him.
At the last hill..Tschopp launches atack..Rodrigues follows..main group reacted fast.
5,1km. to go..Poos surprise atack..
5km. to go..Cardoso is back at the group..great fighter.
Same time at the front Casper follows breakaway atempt..this is aint good.
Sprint...Martin Pedersen is leading..but Casper has not given up..he is closing and fast..
Pedersen still holding up..Casper, Østergaard, Demaret, Bos, Poos..
and Jimmy Casper takes another stage win..2. Demaret..3rd. Poos.
Casper takes yellow back..but Cardoso has reason to be happy he is still in podium. Tomorrow will be last stage..and also last chanche for Manuel Cardoso to take a stage win...

Stage 4 (final)
Villers-St-Paul - Creil.
Last windy day in France...Manuel Cardoso is still after stage win..and this is last chanche for that. As much I understand Liberty riders is tour first day guys..who will atack at the tour opening or second day..then they are at the top level. Later they some how getting to tyred. If we comparing with rivals..
179km. to go..and wind causes a split..Cardoso is at the first group. But tour leader Casper at the second...Besson Chaussures - Sojasun getting order to drop back and help Casper back. They complete it..easy.
Vilela trying to go alone..he was signed here as tour leader..so far he has been just looking after Cardoso..Breakaway today. No ...peloton reacting fast enough he is to dangerous rider.
After intermediate sprint he was trying again..same reaction. No chanche. Vilela gives up..and coming back.
92km. to go..Cornu and Auge atack..and peloton wont react this time..interesting. I take that as compliment.
21km. Cornu is cought just Auge left..
14,5km, to go..and there is Auge. Mass sprint..
Cardoso keeping himself close to Casper..he knows that following Jimmy wheel ..he can get best result..
..and sprint..total Cofidis domination they have 3 riders at the front..Blot. Hary, Valentin...
this was lead out for Valentin..who has taken a lead. Poos..Arashiro..Casper..where is Manuel Cardoso?
He has already given up..bad perfomance today.
Valentin takes a stage win..2nd. Arashiro..3rd. Bos. Great Cofidis sprint show..they have been great all week..

Stage 10
Cuneo - Pinerolo
we are back from first rest day. And we will have at first one of the tour longest and hardest stage ahead.
The resulting alterations caused the course to be even longer than first planned, 262 kilometers rather than 250, with a small categorized climb just under 10 kilometers from the finish. This comes after a 50 kilometer long descent from what became the course's principal climb, Sestrière. The race's overall contenders were expected to distinguish themselves on this stage
I am not surprised to find Leukemans again in the breakaway group..
Today we start early..139km. to go..Masciarelli going first..
Counter atack..and strong 4 riders group is formed..Masciarelli, Simoni, Kiryenka, Paolo Tiralongo..
131km. to go..surprised that Caucchioli cant follow main group speed..
Soler atack..77km to go..he is trying to take some time back today..
at the same in front. Simoni has passed all early breakaway riders and just keep going fast..he is after stage win. Giro longest descent should be perfect for him..
Sestrière summit..Simoni decided to go alone..
56km. to go descent has started also for main group..Pellizotti atacked first..
Garate follows he's exaple..Garzelli first time in action..
Pellizotti has cought Soler..this is strong power for final climb..
Pozzovivo is decided to go after Garate group..Nibali follows..
Then Botcharov..
Giro dominator Di Luca wont like to wait any longer..he's atack..
He passes Garate..group is formed..Di Luca, Garate, Garzelli, Pozzovivo, Botcharov.
At the front there is Simoni who is riding alone..and then Soler-Pellizotti duo..
final short climb Pra Martino...Di Luca decided to left group memebers behind and is atacking after Soler, Pellizotti duo.
That was fast..hellou and good bye ..and he is chasing already Simoni
Main group at the same climb..Garzelli and Pozzovivo has cought..Carrara atacking. Guerra and Plaza just trying to keep up..
..and bad moment for Simoni..Di Luca has cought him..
Pellizotti has droped Soler..
Chase group..Carrara, Masciarelli, Garzelli , Siotsou , Soler...
Plaza battle there..he is just trying to take summit inside that group. It is harder and harder to keep up...Guerra is already droped..
Hill top..Di Luca has left Simoni behind and is now stage leader
Siotsou is back again..(he won stage nr, 4 and got pink then)..he is after Pelizotti..
Descent..Di Luca leading..
E2..Siotsou, Simoni, Pellizotti..
E3 Carrara..he still surprises me..
E4...Soler, Plaza, Garzelli, Nibali, Bruseghin., Astarloza, Pinotti..etc.
Stage win nr. 5..that means Di Luca has won 50% stages...grazy.
For us..Plaza is keeping he's position inside top 10 and Guerra is still inside top 20.

Stage 11
Torino - Arenzano.
With a small climb about 19 kilometers from the end of this stage, and the finish on the descent of that climb, it was expected that either a mass sprint would occur or a breakaway of riders deep down in the GC would finish first on this stage.
Our plan is get Pinto over that hill and get ready for sprint..
Hill has taken..Pinto has started to move closer to the peak..tempo is real fast again..
Crash...Johnny Hoogerland crashing.
..and hugh group is down..Leukemans, Fuglsang..and guys who is 3rd. in GC Siotsou..
So far we dont had a sprint stage without a crash..
Pinto is looking tyred..tempo seems to fast for him. Plaza moves up..and is ready for sprint..
..and sprint..Lorenzo Bernucci is leading..Plaza follows..Pinto is out at the game. He is "empty"...Caisse duo José Iván Gutiérrez and Leon Sanchez..
Caisse boys are taking a lead..Plaza is trying to keep up..Nibali is coming..Pellizotti.
This is gonna be between Caisse and Plaza..
José Iván Gutiérrez takes a stage win..2. Plaza 3rd. Luis León Sánchez.
Caisse riders looks happy today..and they have a reason ..first succesful stage for them..
Ignatiev crashed to hard..he is out of the race..
Siotsou crash and sprint bonus seconds has helped Plaza to GC 6th. place..

Stage 12 (ITT)
Sestri Levante - Riomaggiore
The first individual time trial of the 2009 Giro is a difficult one, long with quite a lot of climbing. There were two categorized climbs on the course, a quick, intense descent between them and no flat stretches at all.
Stage I have been waiting for..My hope is that long TT will easy Plaza situation inside GC top 10. and Guerra can take few places back..
Bert is first big name at the start..at this moment he was fastest man on corse. No one would predict at this moment that he will loose over 6min. for stage winner..
Trussov takes a lead with just 6sec. faster then Bert Grabsch..
I know Isidro Nozal ad had miracle time trial stages at this season..not today he was 30 sec. slower then Grabsch. and this gives him at the end 53rd. place.
Pozzato ok TT he takes a lead when he arrives...this stage is not about ..who is best TT rider? This is about who is in form..and has energy left to keep pushing.
Pipo was 33..today..
Kiryenka was new leader..at the end of the day 17th. and 3'59 down..
Serramenti guys getting stronger and stronger...Scarponi is flying today..8th. +2'23. He passed Ribeiro who started just before him..
Veteran is looking good today...Simoni..12th. +2'58
Guerra just some how wont get in the rythm..and riding under expetations..29. +5'03..
He is clearly dissapointed..
Bruseghin is like old engine witch needs a time to warm up..he is looking every day better and better..and there is still lot of mountains and hills to take. 5th. today..1'33 down..
Plaza taking max. today..great ride and 7th. place 2'02 down..
Monfort..11. 2'57 down..
Nibali..fastest man today. He looked few days ago a rider who has not given everything yet. he will be GC podium candidate and leading now young rider competition with 11'31.
Astarloza...great ride 3rd. and just 24sec. slower then Nibali..
Pinotti..10th. (+2'30)
Leon Sanchez..6th. (+1'41)...
Gutierrez..is 2nd. today..20 sec. slower then Nibali..
Pellizotti..9th. (+2'25)
at least a stage he did not won..even won't be inside top 3..4th. +1'03.
Hugh surprise when I looked GC table after race..Plaza is 4th. How the hell I am gonna defend that position..?

Stage 13
Lido di Camaiore - Firenze
The riders got some respite in this short, flat stage. There were a few short hills in the first 60 kilometers of the stage and one small categorized climb, but from the 60 kilometer mark on the course didn't so much as undulate, and a sprint finish was the result...
Pinto and Di Luca..still waiting..at the front Michael Barry is leading. 3 Serramenti riders at the left works for Loddo..Traksel is there..Leezer..Fischer,,Trussov..
..and now all out..Loddo, Leezer, Devolder at the front..Di Luca is coming. Pinto has given up..tempo before the sprint was to fast again today..
Loddo takes a lead..Di Luca..is that? Yeaah..ladies ad gentelmans ..we got Boonen..he is coming and fast..
100m. to go..this is will be close..Loddo, Boonen, Leezer, Di Luca..
Narrow first Giro win to Boonen takes first stage win..this was also first time when he entered to sprint battle.

Stage 14
Campi Bisenzio - Bologna
Hilly stages will be start again..lets start with light one..
It is was a hilly stage, with four categorized climbs on the course and a finish on a short (but categorized) climb as well.
137km. to go..Simoni and Siotsou atack,..strong climbing power..no worries they are just after hill top KOM points..
Leukemans with Dessel in breakaway again..he can keep this up. He can take green away from Di Luca..
Mystery..Danielson "hit the wall"..tempo was not high at all. But Danielson can not keep up with main group..he was GC 17th. at the morning..
99,3km to go..Cardenas..atack..Di Luca team LPR takes it seriously they ride hard and close it down.
63km. to go..Trialongo atacking..
21km. to go..this was it for Di Luca..he has enough waited..and he is going after another stage win (he has five)..
Garate atack..on the last summit..
Plaza follows..he dont like to let Garate go..on stage like this.. they gonna chase Di Luca?
Guerra atacked first time on this giro..and there is breakaway group with Di Luca..
Group comes back together..
All riders started to be prepeared for final short uphill finish..when another atack.
Monfort, Bruseghin..Scarponi..Pozzovivo...
Plaza counters that atack..he passes Di Luca..
Final uphill..they see already last km sign..Plaza, Bruseghin, Scarponi and Pozzovivo..
another 4 is coming from behind..Carrara, Siotsou, Simoni, Baliani..
..and sprint..Pozzovivo, Plaza, Bruseghin, Carrara and 3 Serramenti riders..Scarponi, Simoni and Serpa..
..line is close..Bruseghin has took a lead..Plaza trying to keep up..Scarponi..
Bruseghin takes a stage..he has been great on this week..another second place for Plaza..Scarponi 3rd...
Danielson still finishes the race ...almost 10 minutes later..and drops in GC to 30th. place..
Intresting battle at the behind..Christian Nozal has been long..last man in GC..with TT and today..he is absolutely empty again..he is not last anymore..
Serov is new black number..

Nice going. It seems getting a top6 in Giro is quite easy.
BTW it really pisses me off that mostly sprinters are off form in the Giro and Di Luca and co mix themselves in the sprints.

stage 15
Forlì > Faenza
This was another mountainous stage. There were four categorized climbs on the course, but there were also three uncategorized hills that simply weren't as steep. There was a 10 kilometer flat section at the finish.
Leukemans again in breakaway..he has a green jersey and trying todau extend he's KOM lead..
Plaza has a point jersey today... It is loaned (Di Luca has also this shirt real owner)..but still feels good..
again 3d game crashed after finish..
damn ..and what a stage it was...Plaza followed Garate atack at the last hilltop..descent..they waited then Di Luca came behind..and Plaza reacted first ..he followed..
Another atack from group..Pozzpovivo , Monfort, Codol get a away.. they cougth Plaza, Di Luca duo just before the sprint..and sprint result..
second stage win for Plaza..he was close on this week ..has been two times second..
Wow! Schocking GC ..Plaza is second..highest place what rider can take (I let Di Luca out of that list ..he has been from different league). Tomorrow queen stage..Monte Petrano and defending..
