Today looks much like yesterday. A few kilometers longer but without the hill to launch attacks on like yesterday. The wind may be a factor. Yesterday went well, and I hope we can hold things together here as well. If the big names attacks towards the end, I can always follow them. But hard wind and a big breakaway group and no help to reel them in – then I will have a problem! But if things gos for a mass sprint finish, I have "half" of the race favourites - and should be totally dominant.
*** Kopp, Geslin, Arvesen
How it unfolded
Oh no! Strong winds are present. That will make the day much tougher and not least harder to control! (Not to mention to get water supplies in!).
Already at 15 KM there is the first split, and now we didn’t go hard at all! This happened a couple of time. With nearly 200 km to go, an attack went. This gonna be a long long day!
I join the attackers with Rasmussen. He won’t do a thing! But this attempt is quickly reeled in by the Rabobank team.
Next attack. Now we go with Nordhaug. But somehow it was hopless to maintain a position in that breakaway – and he fell back…
The breakaway soon got quite a gap. With 150 km to go, they had 5:30. With 120 KM to go they had 7… It peaked with 95 km to go – they had 8:06. Best placed among the escapees has 2:13 up to Arvesen.
The escapees are splitting up, so that will hopefully get more teams interested in getting things together. So far we have no help. It is Nybø, Stannard and Nordhaug who are taking turns.
With 80 km to go, Francaise des Jeux and Quick-Step is also there with a man. At the peloton has 80 km left, the breakawayu has 6:48-
With 60 km to go – it is 5:34….
The wind makes it hard just to keep pulling and still keeping the pack together!
With 40 km to go – things are still at around 5:30 to the people up front!
Now we are pulling with Rasmussen, Rasch and Backstedt. Kopp and Arvesen sits back.
With 30 km to go it is 4:03
With 20 km to go it is 2:15.... Things looks ok for the overall now.
With 12 km to go – things are all together – though thanks to other team the last part of it.
With 10 km to we have organized ourselves here: It is Rasmussen – Backstedt – Arvesen – Kopp. Kopp is still the best sprinter here, as Farrar is at the back of the group, so I am confident.
10 km
8 km
Rasmussen is not moving fast enough, so Backsted takes over with 6,5 KM to go.-…
That gets us forward!
3 km
Here Arvesen takes over. Leezer has his own lead out to the right with Stamsnijder taking him up. On the left Barbe is setting up Amorison. Van Hummel is on Kopp’s wheel. He is perhaps the best competitor here now. Gardeyn sits back of him. Arvesen is by far the best sprinter of the lead-out men
2,7 km
So when he gets going, the other trains are left struggeling. It will be a question of how long Arvesen can keep going and if Kopp can keep Van Hummel behind him all the way to the line! And Arvesen is full of energy – so I trust him to keep his punch for a while. Even when he is out of it, no one dares to challenge! Van Hummel only charges with 0,9 left. Then Kopp goes too! But neither of them can get passed Arvesen – it will be a double!!

Debriefing with the DS
Arvesen is on fire – Kopp took his own sprint with 0,9 to go – still with half his sprint bar – while Arvesen was empty…
The stage was too long for the breakaway – the last tens of kilometers left them scattered around up there. That meant we had more teams interested in taking turns. Between 40 and 20 I had no one at the front, as Backstedt/Rasmussen was at the back to get water, and the rest were either gone or had no interest in taking wind. Arvesen and Kopp could always have upped the pace in the end if things were threatening – but it was not necessary!
Difficulty level will be reevaluated when I meet good competition in strong races. In De Panne I have virtually half of the favourites, so I should really be quite poor to not win. I had hoped to meet som Flanders-competitors.
Probably the difficulty level will be changed any how in the 2nd part of the season.
Well it is 12 km long. And this will be the most interesting guys to watch.
Lang (56th – 2:33 back – TT76)

This should be a safe for Arvesen, while Wiggins, Posthuma and Lang fights it out for the stage together!

De Panne postview
Well, the glory of this win is overshadowed by the lack of anyone of the classics contenders. I did beat reigning winner Poosthuma, but Arvesen is better than him in all kind of terrains, cobbles and sprint – so as long as I got a gap before the TT that should be possible. Kopp’s sprint win came against lackluster competition for such a high profile race. It seems that Ronde van Vlaanderen will be my first test against the real contenders.
IN THE NEWS: Cyclingnews.com
Posthuma takes tage, Arvesen wins overall
Last year’s winner Joost Posthuma (Rabobank) won the final stage of the Driaadaagse de Panne – Kosijde, a 12 km time trial in the coastal town of De Panne. He won with a slim margin of 2 seconds to Dominique Cornu (Quick-Step). Sebastian Lang (Silence - Lotto) came third, 9 seconds behind.
Noone could do anything about race leader Kurt-Asle Arvesen (Statkraft-Bianchi) who had a good margin to his closest competitors before the stage. Closet came Gianni Meersman (Francaise des Jeux) who ended second overall, 1:26 behind Arvesen. Kevin Hulsman finished third 1:56 back, while Posthuma’s time trial performance propelled him to a 4th place.
“- It shall not be possible to lose so much time in such a short time trial, so I felt very safe today and did not take any risk”, an overjoyed Arvesen said. He finished 26 seconds behind Posthuma on today’s stage with the 8th best time of the day.
Arvesen secured his win on the first stage, taking an impressive solo victory. Although the Statkraft-Bianchi-rider was very satisfied with his results in De Panne-Koksijde, he did miss some of the stronger contenders for the forthcoming classics. “That was a pity”, Arvesen said, but he understood the reasoning for concentrating on Sunday’s Ronde van Vlaanderen. “I won Eroica, I won Paris-Nice and I win here, so I am in good form – but I would have liked to test myself against the big guns before starting Ronde van Vlaanderen.”, he added.
Posthuma said he went into the race with the aim of winning the stage. “I am disappointed with not being able to defend my win last year, so I really wanted to win this stage”.”
Ok the inrace pic appears now (I have change something whit my video card) but the logo of the panne tour and the profile don't appears, you forgot to put "" after.
And now; the World Championship of Flemish Cycling. 264 km of hellingen and uneven surfaces. The Ronde is tha hardest classic out there according to previous winner Michele Bartoli. Climbs, wind, pave, twisting roads takes it’s toll on riders.
In this course, there is of course no doubt that Kurt-Asle Arvesen will be our leader. He should be a possible top-10 contender, he finished 7th last year. David Kopp will be our most important helper. His best result in the Ronde is 16th in 2006. Normally he is not strong enough to follow on the climbs though. Jacob Moe Rasmussen might also be a good helper for Arvesen for some while on the stage, he has a decent hill stats, but then lacks finesse on the cobblestones. Classic specialist Magnus Backsted has never coped well with this hilly parcours, and does not have any strong results here. We could have sent him away for a breakaway, but I will need all kinds of resources to help Arvesen.
*** Cancellara, Boonen, O’Grady

How it unfolded
A five man break is allowed to go clear quite early. IT consist of a a couple of good riders in hills, but no one that can ride the cobbles! Behind them Team Columbia and surprinsingly Landbouwkrediet takes their turns pulling. They probably is going for De Waele today. He is another top 10 contender. The wind should not be a problem today.
Then nothing really happends for a while. Everything is like normal; Saxo Bank, Quick-Step, Silence-Lotto and Rabobank share the pace holding between them for much of the time.
I keep working to have Arvesen placed in the front end of the pack, that can not be a good thing? [Kopp and Backsted I just placed there and they stayed put].
Quick-Step maintains a high speed on the hellingens, and the peloton is spread thin.My first helpers, Stannard and Nybø, let go with 75 KM to go. They have done the water carrying so far. This is really a hard part of the race. The pave-covered climbs comes by rapidly… Rasmussen and Nordhaug looses it with 60-65 KM to go.
Rasch and Backstedt empty out shortly after, and moves to the back of the pack, which now has only 43 members. Backstedt get some water up with 54 km – and adios to him. Arvesen now only has Kopp left.
First real attack comes with 49 KM to go. It is De Waele (Landbouwkrediet), followed by Steegmans (Katusha). They give up in a matter of seconds…. The speed is now too high for Kopp too, who fades away toward the back with 45 KM to go. He tries to come back a couple of times, but is he soon leaves the now 19-riders thin front group.
Muravyev (Astana) and Burghardt (Columbia) takes off with 44 km to go!
25KM: Nuyens attacks! Front group is now down to 15, still with 4 Quick-Step riders…
19KM: On the penultimate Hellingen Quick-Step plays Devolder. Arvesen does not think about it, this is a very hard climb, and following Devolder is out of the question.
18,5 KM So far Arvesen has spent no excessive energy… Van Summeren and Cancellara goes after him. Flecha and Boonen tries too eventually. And then O’Grady also follows…
18 KM: Arvesen finds his own tempo, together with Maaskant.
It seems that Boonen and Cancellara gets a gap up there. Nuyens is still out there though, having a minute on them. Van Summeren and Devolder gets up to them as well… Devolder is again sent off on attack 11 KM to go.
Arvesen makes a short attack in the final descent, to get rid of a wheelsucking Maaskant.
Nuyens is still going well, with 8 km to go he has 54s on Devolder, and 1:20 on Boonen and Cancellara. He looks to hold off, with 4 km to go it is still 40s…
Boonen and Devolder cames 2nd and 3rd, but can only glaze down on winner Nuyens!
Arvesen can roll in with his strongest the Ronde-performance in his bag. He finishes a strong 8th. Kopp rode in to a decent 20th.

By foregoing any idea of of following late attacks and the leaders when they went I got a good result out of pure defensive thinking! I am very happy with this first real outing against the starts!

Quick-Step misfires, as Nuyens takes Flanders-win
When there were only 16 men left in the front group, Quick-Step had four of them and looked set to dominate the finish. But there were in for a surprise as Nick Nuyens (Rabobank) took things in his own hands with 25 km to go to be one step ahead of the Quick-Step game. Nuyens strong ride took him all the way to an impressing solo win, while Quick-Step had to settle with 2nd and 3rd with Boonen and Devolder respectively.
“This is unbelievable!”, said Nuyens. “I have dreamed about winning it, and I have believed I could win it. With all those Quick-Steps in there it was just as well to just go and avoid their games”.
For Team Saxo-Bank things were not so bright today. With two of the favourites to win the race, with Cancellara and O’Grady – a mere 4th place did not make Fabian Cancellara too happy. “I didn’t have the legs today” he said. “In the end I could not follow Tom [Boonen].
This 203-km long race will often end in a mass sprint finish due to the relatively flat course. The main obstacle to such a finish is the frequent presence of wind, and then the Kemmelberg. After completing Kemmelberg twice (as well as Monteberg) two times, it will be a fight between the attackers and the sprinter’s teams trying to get things back together in the last 35 km.
Team Strategy
We rode defensively in the Ronde, not risking anything. With a good result there, I feel I can risk more here – like a more or nothing approach. I will try to put Backstedt in a breakaway. Arvesen will try to find a semi-favourite attack to joing, while Kopp will be following the sprinters – hopefully.
How it unfolded
Absolutely nothing happened until 50 km had passed by and Johan Van Summeren (Silence-Lotto), one of the outsiders, had a flat. He was helped out before even the peloton had passed by! We tried were represented near the front with most of our riders.
Van Summeren punctures
Keeping near the front
Then, again, nothing happened until another 50 KM had gone by. Then Rasch and Backsted grew impatient, and went on the attack with 105 KM to go…
It will be a solo-ride (Rasch goes pack to the pack after spending his energy to launch and protect Backstedt the first kilometers). Everybody waits for the Bergs it seems… Magnus built a lead of about less than 4 minutes at most.
Backstedt on the Monteberg.
Now Arvesen will watch our for attacks on the bergs.
Former winner Oscar Freire has a flat on the first passing of Monteberg. Arvesen overlooking things at the front
Backstedt is wheeled in on the 2nd round at Monteberg, now it is 41 KM to go…
The other teams really are passive today… With 37 KM to go, it is Arvesen that charges ahead at the top of Kemmelberg!
It looked doomed – nobody followed along this time either, so he is alone with Rabobank, Saxo-Bank, Quick-Step and Silence-Lotto all have 2-4 man taking pulls behind him…
Finally with 26 KM to go, Pozzato takes off… They two do not get a gap. Then Ballan and Hoste goes along as well with 20 KM to go. Meanwhile Kopp can no longer keep up with the front group..
Arvesen can not keep up with the attack and pace of Hoste and Ballan… And is swallowed by the front group… Instead he takes the wheel of O’Grady to see if he can hold up… Now (7 km to go) everyone seems to be going!
In the first group, with 4 KM to go – it is Cancellara and Boonen.
It will be Boonen who wins!
Arvesen falls short in the heavily fought contest for 14th position… So he finishes 17th

Debriefing with the DS!
Well well. Maybe we could have reached 5-10 place with a conservative ride, but at least I saved the race for being utterly boring for the first 180 km… Extrordinary boring tactics from the AI-teams today.
I am into Romandie. That will be a race without my leaders, so I am not sure why I decided to apply for wild-card. It will go there with Daniel Martin as leader. He has his eyes fixed on 4 days on Dunkerque, so he should be in good form. But of course, there will be no pressure on him on my part.

The Hell of the North. The Queen of the Classic. A Sunday in Hell. It's time for a truly monumental day in the cycling calendar. While some would frown upon the awful condition for a professional sports event, the true cycling fans recognize that these difficulties ensure a true classic event where there will be no coincidental winner!
Tha start lists showed a surprise none-participation by Tom Boonen. The favourites then remains as Allessandro Ballan, Stijn Devolder and Fabian Cancellara. Kurt Asle Arvesen is named an outsider.
The tactics here is simply. Hang on! We will need to preserve energy as best as we can. Arvesen is tired now and his fitness is on the decline.
How it unfolded!
Off we go. Some breakaway attempts today. In a moment of relief and joy after the boring race the other day – I go off with Backstedt. He is a part of a 7-man break. Not exactly creap of the crop there… Hopefully they can survive long enough for Backstedt to be of some use.
Backstedt, even on fairly slow pace, dropped the others in the breakaway on the first paveés. With 150 KM to go, he has 2 minutes to the breakaway, and 7:12 to the pack. Could be a long day in front…
In the pack, the pave takes it toll on the team members. Arvesen has only Kopp with him with 118 km to go. Maybe some will come back between the cobblestone section. Backstedt now has 9:56 to the pack. Well, they don’t. There is now 72 riders in the the main group,.
With the long cobblestone sections the group is slowly thinning out. With 73 KM to go, the peloton is down to 65 riders, and stretched far out. Kopp, Arvesens last protector, is soon off… Backsted is still 4:30 in front.
With 56 km to go Hoste (Silence-Lotto) attacks! Gregory Rast (Astana) is the only one trying to go with him. Now Kopp can’t keep up. The attackers will soon catch up with Backstedt. In Arvesen’s group there is now only 18. Backstedt is there with Arvesen with 46 km to go. He can protect Arvesen for another 5 km, but then he fades away.
The bad luck never ends for George Hincapie in this race – he punctures with 40 KM to go. Status now is. Meanwhile O’Grady and Devolder has caught up with Hoste.
Arvesen have to let the favourites with 36 KM to go. Now they are only 12 in the “peloton”, with three riders in front of them again.
Status 20 KM to go:
E1: O’Grady now caught by Pozzato, Devolder and Ballan.
E2 (+59): Flecha, Hoste, Cancellara (Attacking), Maaskant, Nuyens, Gusev (lagging behind)
E3: (+1:27) Van Summeren
E4: (+1:37) Burghardt (attacking)
E5: (+1:52) Van Avermaet (attacking), Rast
E6: (+2:49) Hincapie, Arvesen (who will not keep up)
19 km: Ballan attacks, while Cancellara comes up to the first group. Ballan can not get away. Pozzato is next up (17 KM). He gets a good gap. But Ballan and Cancellara would normally be good to get him back?
Indeed… Cancellara has come up to him
Meanwhile, quite a few kilometers behind, Kopp punctures in his pursuit for a top 20 position (he was alone, having left his group, at 20th position)
Status 10 km to go:
E1: Cancellara and Pozzato
E2 (+46): Flecha, Ballan, Devolder, O’Grady
E3 (+1:08) Nuyens
E4: (+1:19) Hoste
E5: (+1:40) Maaskant, Gusev, Burghardt, Van Summeren
E6: (+2:03) Van Avermaet
E7: (+2:34) Rast, Hincapie
E8: (+3:33) Arvesen
With 8 km to go Flecha attacks his group. Meanwhile Quinziato is on his way to pull Arvesen back.
1,3 KM: Cancellara has opened the sprint:
But there is no doubt on who has most power left in his legs!
Flecha was caught, and Ballan wins the sprint for 3rd.
Arvesen is in for a 16th.
Kopp is in for a 25th.

Debriefing with the DS
Not much to do about this. Being a 1-star favourite, I had at least though I could fight for a top 10. I could of course have kept Backsted back, but I am not sure how much that would have helped, I doubt he would have stayed on for much longer than Kopp anyway. And Arvesen did nothing, and just kept with the contender’s group as long as he could. Unfortunately Kopp punctured, and lost his top-20 placement.
It seems my computer finally broke down on me now. A new one is on its way. Does anyone know what I need to do to be able to continue my save games on the new computer?
I have saved it at the default destination I assume. I'll find the save game files, but what files do I need to transfer and to make it work?
Are there any other files I need to get? Do I need to install the same DB? Do I need to copy the files with my own DB (how do I find those files`) etc?
