Great stage today, racing like a one day classic. I hope Chavanel wins overall, after today he deserves it. |

I think the mountain stage will be way to though for him. |

They started with 7 in a group of 20
then Nuyens dropped. And on a small climb all others but Langeveld, Flecha and Garate dropped. |

hmm. Garate will beat Chavanel in the mountains, but Contador isn't far away and he is still the big favourite

Great to have Chavanel in shape already... I'm really hoping for a glorious season from him... We need frenchies to do well soon...
A top 5 GC here from him would be amazing, and not impossible imo... |

I doubt it. If Garate can hang on, so can Chavanel
Plus, I think he's in good form, considering the fact that he's going for the classics this season (instead of the old pressure where the Frenchies expected him to win the Tour ). |

Garate definatly is a better climber then Chavanel.
you know there is this stage right?

Garaté isn't as good as he used to be. So sure, laugh all you want, but I'm ready to laugh right back at you after the stage |

why would you think that? Rabobank didnt bring him here as leader for fun. Chavanel can go up the hills, but this mountain should be too much for him.
like the belgian commentators said, he could easily lose 1:30 on Contador. then the 30 seconds Garate is behind, should be no problem for him. |

Well, maybe Seeldraeyers can do good. He was up there in the Tour of California.

I've got to agree with Crue... Gárate imo isn't all that fantastic in the mountains compared to Chavanel... They are pretty equal atm I think... We aren't riding in Spain either... I believe the weather conditions are MUCH better for Chavanel, and he seems to be in great shape! |

well, garate did a nice job on the flat today in the rain for a climber huh? so the conditions dont hurt him at all. |

So, what I think is that Contador can really do it, but maybe only in Lure. There, he'll be able to make a 2' max gap on Chavanel, if Contador is as strong as I think he can be (so, that could make a 1' gap for the GC) .
But the thing is that with 1' in stages like Fayence and Nice ones will be hard for Contador, as his Astana support = . As for Garate, will be hard for him i guess
Tomorrow stage will be interesting, witha dowhill finish in Saint-Etienne, will be interesting to see what will happen with Chavanel, ...
Edit : Does someone know anything about Selldrayers ? He could be a good climber, from what I saw

As I was telling Marco yesterday, at Paris-Nice it's perfectly normal if a flat stage turns out huge gaps due to wind.
Contador is still the main favorite in my view, mostly due to friday's stage and sunday's stage (the final climb ), and he should win this still.
However, there are a bucketload of people close on GC and his team will have trouble controlling everyone in the medium mountains. Quite simply, almost anyone is a GC danger in these circumstances.

I agree. Contador is not in huge problems, considering the fact that he's a much, much better climber than any of his rivals - and he seems to be in form. Just a shame (for him) that his team completely missed out today. |

Garate was 6th last year in Paris Nice, and 7th on the Ventoux
Chavanel was 29th on the Ventoux, 2 minutes behind Garate.
Garate was also 21th in the Tour last year, which is also way better then Chavanel
You were saying????
Contador will win anyway. Garate somewhere top 5. Chavanel probably top 10, or if he completely gives up no top 10.
If you say something like that, you gotta back it up with facts Crue. Otherwise I will be there to hunt you down.
