well will Lars 'Tree' succesfuly protect his lead in the race to the sun?
Stage 3/7:
Again a stage for the sprinters it seems but since the final km is uphill with a gradient of 3.1% it could be a nice stage for guys such as Sanchez, Ventoso, Di Luca etc. Euskaltel feels confident about Sanchez' chances today and they prevent anyone from getting away. However with 100 kms to go Antonio Colom and Pieter Weening are allowed to try the impossible...
Colom and Weening riding up front in the sun
Even though the Dutchman and the Spaniard work hard and build up a nice lead it are the sprinter teams that control the race and with 20 kms to go Colom and Weening's adventure is over and Weening seems to be pissed of about this
Pieter Weening taunting towards the chasers!
While many sprinters such as Cavendish and Boonen are not up front it seems to be a great oppurtunity for Sanchez to win however the Liquigas tandem with Paolini and Di Luca is up front with Ventoso and they have a nice lead going into the sprint. Boom is also up front but if the wrong guy wins (aka Sanchez) he could lose his lead!
Sanchez is stuck in the back while Ventoso is in a great position behind Di Luca!
The road then goes up even more and one man can only think that Ventoso should now take an easy win but that doesnt happen
Di Luca shows that he is already getting in shape as he outsprints Ventoso and Sanchez, Boom is still leading!

Stage 4/7:
Tom Boonen could grab the lead today with a win so this could be Boom's last day in the lead. Early on 4 riders escape but one of them is so strong that he decides to do it on his own and to the amazement of many viewers the 3 chasers never bring him back even though he's on his own. It's Mertens who is feeling well today while Devolder, Feillu and Canada can't reach him
Left: Mertens on his own, Right: Devolder in front of Feillu and Canada
These 4 take a big lead but they are never a real threat to the sprinter teams, however when the wind blows real hard with 100 kms to go Nippo decides to do some damage and for a moment it works as Caisse D'Epargne, Euskaltel, Agritubel and T-Mobile have lots of men in the back who have lost contact with the group!
Sanchez and his Euskaltel team are surprised as they lose contact with the pack!
However with 100 kms to go, and the wind speed going down most of the riders came back and once Mertens was caught on the final climb we got ready for a mass sprint. This time most sprinters made it past the climbs and when they are heading out of the corner Cavendish has a small lead over Boonen and the rest!
Cavendish looking strong!
However the final metres are uphill and this doesn't favour Cav's chances, and because of this Cavendish' slowly drops back and he would eventually end 6th. Boonen takes advantage of Cavendish and doesn't let Ventoso nor Paolini past him and so he wins and takes over the overall lead from Lars Boom
Tom Boonen wins for the 2nd time and takes the lead!

well stage 5 and 7 are tough ones but I dunno exactly, you'll see soon
now off to Italy!
Stage 1/7:
We bring Benatti as our leader here. The first stage in this years Tirreno is quite an easy one, however the final kms go up and this could be an advantage for the likes of Freire and Valverde. First we have the daily break which consisted of 7 riders
White and Commesso leading the group
They get a nice gap but after a while it seems their journey will end soon. Nevertheless 5 of these 7 riders are still up front with 1.6 kms to go! However the pack is very close and is close to wheeling them in
White is making the pace once again but it doesnt look good for the break
And indeed when they reach the 1 km banner they are caught and we get ready for a chaotic uphill sprint which looks a bit like this
Vaugrenard leads on the left with Pipo in the middle and Arvesen on the right, Bennati is stuck behind Petacchi!
Vaugrenard goes on but then Freire and Valverde get past him and then while Bennati wants to go after Freire it is a Norwegian who sprints his way past him and the 2 Spaniards and just holds on to a surprising win!
Kurt Asle Arvesen surprises the sprinters!

Stage 5/7:
The first tough stage in this year's Paris Nice, and the only way Boom can get the lead back is when a break makes it with riders who aren't a threat to him in the gc but the chance that that will happen is quite small. Still a strong group of 11 gets away with riders such as Lovkvist, Contador and Perez Rodriguez
The group of 11 halfway trough the stage
The break gets a nice lead and also all the riders in the break lost time in the 2nd stage which means they are now threat for the GC. However with 3 kms to go, when they go up the final hill and the group is down to 7 riders they cooperation stops and the pack wheels them in...
They could have made it if they continued working
Boom is still in the pack then but with 1 km to go Di Luca attacks and with Boom in trouble we have to realize that Boom won't get the lead back.
Di Luca with a strong attack, Sanchez responds but can't reach him
Di Luca keeps on going and even though he only wins by 12 seconds he does grab his 2nd stagewin and the overall lead. Behind him Calzati is present in the group 0f 19 that finishes 12 seconds later than Di Luca while Boom loses 1,09.

A nice test for Bennati to see how he will fair on these climbs which can be compared to the ones in Milano San Remo. But still Gil is our leader today even though its his first race of the season. The break of the day, which featured 2 sprinters :
Davis and Zabel present in the break of 7
However the break never stood a chance and on the toughest climb of the day the battle begins. A Spaniard breaks free with a strong attack and he is beinh chased by an Italian. Apparently the Spaniard still lies in the sun a bit too much
Left: Valverde with a safe lead, Right: Ricco on the chase with Gadret, F.Schleck and Gerdemann behind him
You may ask, where are the nippo's? Well ofcourse I didn't want to Bennati to waste too much energy but Gil did attack!
Koldo Gil in E4 with Eltink, Landaluze, Hincapie and Kohl
Up front Valverde maintains his lead and wins with Ricco ending 2nd. Gil does a nice job ending 9th and is now 6th in the GC!
Valverde on his way to victory

I'd find a way to win
You could've at least beaten Hincapie
Anyway it's good to see the story being updated regularly again

Exciting stage coming up :!:
A stage that looks less tougher than yesterday but as usual we have our daily break, this time also Brutt managed to jump along in a small, yet very strong break
Brutt up front with Contador, Visconti and KOM leader Colom behind him
They get a huge lead but halfway trough Visconti has to let go and with 20 kms to go Brutt has to let go. Then its only Contador and Colom left and their lead drops dramatically
Contador and Colom with 10 km left while Brutt is taken down by the pack in the back
And so it seems we're going to get another uphill sprint with Di Luca and Sanchez being the main favourites, however I remember a certain gentleman saying that he was curious what Calzati could do in a stage like this?
Attaque de Calzati! While Brutt is taken in Calzati takes off on top of the final climb!
Calzati keeps on going and he joins Colom and Contador in the downhill section, he also gets company from Posthuma, Sanchez Gil, Kirchen and Horner. And meanwhile, the past few stages I noticed that on extreme, riders tend to fall and puncture more often also when they are up front and guess what happens?
Kim Kirchen punctures and can forget about victory! (U all thought Calzati was going to fall right? )
With Kirchen out Calzati has one contender less because with 1 km to go they have a safe lead altough it doesnt seem that they will gain alot, or gain any time at all.
The break enters the final km, Calzati is up front and thats not a nice position to be in
Calzati isnt a good sprinter at all but neither are Posthuma, Horner. Sanchez Gil has a somewhat decent sprint and since Calzati is up front he knows he has to wait as long as he can because if he goes too soon he'll blow away his chances of victory! So Calzati waits, and waits, and waits even longer and the other riders don't start the sprint themselves, but then the pack gets closer and Calzati knows he has to start sprinting now
Calzati up front with one more hill in front of him, will he make it?
They go up the final hill, Horner seems to lack the power but Posthuma gets next to Calzati and Sanchez comes out of the back with a strong sprint...
Sylvain Calzati does it!
And so we take a stage win --8)
Celebration in the Nippo camp, the exhausted Pavel Brutt raises his hands as soon as he hears the news

thanks guys
Stage 3/7:
Another nasty stage and this time no one even tried to get away altough Claeys did attack on the only climb where there were some KOM points. After this attack the pack got back together and with 3 km to go it seemed that we would get a small uphill bunchsprint but then with 2 kms to go the leader in this years Tirreno makes a surprise move
Valverde suddenly attacks! Gil and Siutsou don't have the energy to go after him
And so Valverde gains 21 seconds on the pack, wins the stage and also strengthens his lead. Gil ends 7th and remains 6th in the GC
Valverde continues to show great form

A tough stage but when a break of 6 gets the 'ok' signal it seems that the teams are not interested in chasing them down since no one in the group is a threat in the GC whatsoever
Horrach, Mourey, Voigt, Gomez Marchante, Mertens and Gavazzi heading towards Cannes
Later Giovanni Visconti bridges the gap and joins the group, the group is still together but on the final climb the stronger ones seperate themselves from the weaker ones
Mourey, Voigt and Gavazzi can't keep up with Visconti's pace!
Then only 4 riders are left and one of them places a surprise attack on the downhill section, Gomez Marchante takes off and Mertens, Visconti and Horrach only look at eachother while they should be chasing
Gomez Marchante plays it smart and just like that he creates a huge gap between him and the chasers!
Voigt and Mourey join the group again and then they finally start to chase Gomez Marchante down and now he's quickly losing second after second after second, with 3 kms to go they can see the yellow dot coming closer and closer
The remaining 5 can see Gomez Marchante coming closer but isnt it too late?
With 1 km to go Gomez Marchante still leads, however Mertens is determined to win and takes off with Visconti in his wheel, Voigt, Mourey and Horrach can't follow
Mertens and Visconti are getting real close now! (distances are bigger than they seem  )
Who will win?
Its Pieter Mertens who takes the flowers after an exciting last part of this stage!

also, next time you will see many new jerseys amongst the pt teams, I put in most of the 2008 jerseys so that it also feels like we really are in 2008. Ofcourse I only put in the jerseys of teams that still have the same or almost the same name
Stage 4/7:
JUst as in Paris Nice, the leaders here in Tirreno Adriatico also decided to take it easy and so a big break of 13 riders is allowed to get away. For Nippo Alexander Bespalov is present
A big break, a big lead, a big chance for these 13 riders to win today
However the final climbs shake things up as 5 riders immediatly have to let go after the first climb, these 4 would also be caught by the pack in the end. The group is down to 9 and Bespalov is still in the group but then on the final climb he has to let go together with Commesso (TCS), Ciccarese (PAN) and Ghyselinck (ASA). A bit later with 5 kms to go also Minard and Veikkanen have to let go and so with 3 kms to go we have these 3 left
Kopp, Van Impe and Quinziato take off, Veikkanen still desperately tries to get back
In the sprint Quinziato doesnt stand a chance, its between Van Impe and Kopp
David Kopp takes the win while Van Impe and Quinziato enter the top 5 in the GC

Stage 8/8:
The final stage in this year's Paris Nice which could shake up the GC and perhaps Nippo's Calzati could move into the top 10, first 3 strong riders take off as they try to win today's stage
Fothen, Menchov and Barredo up front
They have a nice lead and are still up front on the final climb, there the Liquigas and Astana boys keep up a very high pace, making it impossible for riders such as Kirchen and Calzati to attack. On top of the climb the escapees are caught. However 1 rider does have some energy left to attack!
Samuel Sanchez is gone! He can win Paris Nice now!
Even though Liquigas tries everything to decrease the gap, it is Sanchez who takes the final stage and as he wins with a 47 second advantage he also takes the overall win in this years Paris Nice.
Samuel Sanchez Gonzalez wins Paris Nice
