@fenian: Riccò will be difficult to beat but if we manage to be tactically superior maybe we can take a GT win (which I dont think will happen though...)
The aim will be to restrict the race to the italians and Schleck. Di Luca can handle more or less with them in the TT's but if Sanchez or Kirchen get too close in the GC our chances will drop cuz' of the final plain TT which is pretty long...
@alexkr00: yes dont' forget this is 2009 Giro
@Dessel: That's really anoying isnt it? I thinks its Stage 11 or 12 that has more 50km than its shown in the profile... And that is one of the toughest ones

Yup, one of the stages shows like 70 kms too short.. Good luck with the rest of the stages, you'll win! |

I think I'll have a chance wining one of the following stages which are not that tough but end in a climb...
Di Luca has to win one of those it's time the investment made to buy him show its profits

Oh thanks
I didnt even realise everyone else had done a "Christmas hiatus"...
That comment has really raised my mood
Because of that I'm thinking in posting one more race report today!

Giro d’Italia
Stage 8
Today we have a green Di Luca!
O'Grady included the break of the day... the profile could fit is abilities but he could only get a victory if the break prevailed...
When the boring part of the stage ended at the base of Monte Corena Chavanel said goodbye to the bunch with Bosisio and Sella!
Cunego also tried to surprise but Di Luca wouldnt let him!
In O'Grady's group, De Waele and Schar tried to leave the others behind!
In the back Kirchen made an attempt to reach Di Luca and Cunego with Simoni and Pelizotti aattached to his wheel
O'Grady left the group too close to the summit in serch of the front duo
In the downhill the favorites group was huge! Schleck was with Di Luca and Cunego too he attacked after the top!
Di Luca was struggling to keep the pace when Riccò got to the chasing group.
At the front these men were going to fight for the victory: Celli, O'Grady, De Waele, Vanmarcke e Schar. The australian was the absolute favourite!!
Many attacks ocurred in Di Luca's group but nothing serious. Meanwhile Schar had had a meeting with the asphalt.
Di Luca ended the day in Cunego's wheel...not a good sign for the forthcoming days...
At the front O'Grady confirmed the anounced victory - a risk well taken!! An unexpected win by a rider who was not thought to be in the Giro!!
Di Luca finished with an effort mask on his face. No gaps were created between the favourites today. Let's see how he's doing tomorrow in a stage that might work pretty well for him!

It looks like he'll be a good help yes!
it is a surprise because his form is in clear decline as is major peak as already gone!
I just brought him to the Giro to fill the empty spot that was left.... that way I wouldnt tire any other valuable rider. Surprisingly it turned out to be much more beneficial than I would ever imagine
Let's hope he can maintain that behaviour

Giro d’Italia
Stage 9
Tearing apart all the predictons the stage ended up in a mass sprint!! Our leader was able to show all his class and achieved his first victory for the team and the second win in a row in the Giro. He managed to finish in front of his main rival: Riccò which made our day even better
The bonifications allowed us to close the gap for Ricco and Sclheck closing the first third of the race in the best way! Tomorrow the first rest day takes place...

Giro D'Itália
Stage 10
This stage seemed perfect for a breakaway. Nevertheless all of our rider remained in the bunch
Contrary to my predictons the break was caught in the beggining of the last climb... Meanwhile the first attacks began with Sella, Karpets, Capecchi and Simoni
Riccò didn't wait much more...
Many more attacks succeeded but Schleck, Cunego and Di Luca stayed in the main group a while longer...
Pelizotti was th following protagonist taking some other riders in his wheel!!
Finally F.Schleck thought he shouldnt wait anymore... Di Luca went after him carrying Cunego!!
A group was then formed after Riccò
More attacks surged... Di Luca, Sanchez and Pelizotti were very close to the pink jersey wearer
Anyway Di Luca was the only one able to catch him in the descent!
In the last plain section the chasing group worked together to catch the front duo!
With 15km to the finish they both got caught!
Imediately more attacks appeared with Chavanel creating an instant gap! Everyone except the top3 in the GC and Cunego got away!
The rest of them were caught by the bunch... But with only 7km to the end Cunego wasn't in a mood to let men like Sanchez and Kirchen expand their advantage. Schleck, Di Luca and Riccò went with the Lampre rider!!
The victory was about to be fought between the front duo though: Chavanel and Kirchen!!
At the time Di Luca was creating a minor gap to the other favorites. In the finish line Chavanel managed to take the win in front of the fast Kirchen!!
Di Luca's advantage was about 15'' in the final meters...
The other 3 didnt take long to join him after the finish and according to the late decisions of the judges we wont be gaining any time...
