The Austrian cycling federation has given a life-time ban to Arno Kaspret, a cycling marathon rider. Interesting ... although I guess he can go to CAS and get a 2-year-ban instead.

Contador takes some shots at Levi and Armstrong....

https://velonews.c...-armstrong

In regards to Contador's remarks he is an ungrateful little punk....I love how people get to the top and then forget how they get there. Levi finished second because he is one of the best TT and grand tour riders in the world, not because he did not do any work for the little prince. I was a Contador fan until now.

Capinordic will sponsor what's currently called Team GLS in 2009, meaning that the team will be called .... Team Capinordic! Wink

basically Contador is whats called an arse.

He's always said he admires Armstrong, but now he's the "best GT rider ever" (and yeah, that was supposed to be in speech marks), he thinks he can go it alone. How much did contador rely on team mates before attacking in the vuelta Wink

Look at the tentative route, I see a little climbing right through the Rocky Mountains right there in the middle. Including a (you would guess) mountain TT in Vail, if that route holds true, and they get some good teams, it could be a great race. Banana

Well, obviously, they still didn't get much smarter since last time we discussed the infamous Tour of America.

I want it to be good, but looking at this you'd be forgiven for thinking "well it's a straight line"
thetourofamerica.com/images/stories/ToAMap2.gif

and well the reason i want profiles is my american geography is below standard. I know the rockies exist etc. but i honestly don't know where (shocking huh?)

I want the tour to suceed, but it's calendar position isn't the best. It will clash with the worlds.

Look at California, then look 4 states to the right to see a square state colored in red, thats Colorado, the Rockies run north-south across the country, but that is where they are at there highest, and also where they would be raced across

ok thanks Wink

I hope it's a good tour. Really though it'll be much better when the Vuelta moves, 2 GT's at the same time won't work to well.

Uh...guys...I hate to be "that guy", but....CLERC OUT IS HUGE NEWS WHY IS EVERYONE IGNORING IT

Will someone please translate from the danish link why Clerc was fired?

This sucks. One less guy who despite being a jackass, truly believed in the good of cycling and actually had great ideas.

Really really sucks.

That's why he was fired probably. ASO are not about the good of cycling.

google says: The soon as four years old conflict between the Tour de France owner ASO and the international cycling federation UCI has now led to rolling heads. ASO fired its top management.

Director Patrice Clerc and his right hand will leave the company. Clerc goes on early retirement, and Gilbert Ysern is already looking for another job. Tour director Prudhomme (left) loses its director Clerc (right)

Two things are according. telesport.nl reason for the rapid resolution. In the first year, the cancellation of the Paris-Dakar - because of political unrest in the African state Mauritania - allegedly cost the ASO the tidy sum of approx. 150 million euro, ie. a cool billion. Secondly, it is ASO owners probably tired of the endless battle between ASO and UCI and Patrice Clerc inability to resolve the conflict.

For this reason it was Marie-Odile Amaury, the widow of ASO-founder Philippe Amaury, present at the reconciliation meeting in Madrid last Friday, when the major race organizers, the great teams and UCI were to attempt to settle the conflict. UCI was not, however, important to attend, and thus disappeared yet another opportunity to doctor the wounds of the age-old conflict.

The meeting is Monday, however, agreed on individual decisions, as UCI later apparently acceded. 16 possible. 18 teams will through a qualification system have automatic access to the Tour de France. TV rights remain the organizers property.

Marie-Odile Amaury already took the first steps to try to resolve the conflict, as she negotiated with UCI president Pat McQUAID, former UCI president Hein VERBRUGGEN, president of the International Olympic Committee Jacques Rogge and Patrice Clerc predecessor Jean-Claude Killy in Olympics in Beijing. It has for years been an open secret that Clerc and Jean-Claude Killy is not outstanding sight of each other, so at this time has Clerc - who was not invited to the negotiating table in Beijing - was aware of where the wind bar.

It is important to point out that Marie-Odile Amaury still believe in reconciliation with the UCI and wish to cooperate with the Organization for cycling sport common good.

McQUAID hjemmefrontenPÃ¥ of problems on the surface looks it now seemed that it iltre Irishman Pat McQUAID from UCI has won the battle against ASO. But - so it is not. There is unrest and discontent at home, where no fewer than 16 of the largest European national cycling federations are extremely dissatisfied with the way UCI has handled the management of sport in within the last year. In particular associations feel that UCI has developed into a top-down and undemocratic organization with little influence member.

Indeed, dissatisfaction so great that one can not exclude that associations at UCI congress next Friday in the World Cup in Varese, will make a motion to McQUAID and his executive committee.
