Euskaltel - restoring basque honor

Liege - Bastogne - Liege (not a lot of images as i was on the phone most of the race and forgot to take screenshots Sad )

It's the LBL today. After the last 2 classics we're not hoping for much. Still wont stop us from trying though! Sanchez is still in the low end of the 80's total fitness so he's not entirely out of shape yet.

Race Summary

10 riders attacked early on and worked up a gap of 8 minutes to the pack. Caisse and CSC again controlled the proceedings as they brought the gap down to 2 minutes with 50km to go, where Paolo Bettini and Rinaldo Nocentini struck first and got a gap on the pack.

40km, Bettini, Nocentini and Popovych hold a 2 minute gap. CSC are working in the pack.

30km, Frank Schleck, Valverde and Rebellin attack. Sanchez follows Schleck but doesn't quite make it all the way up to the other favorites. Vaugrenardd and Kirchen are in the same situation and the 3 of them work together.

20km, we're back with Schleck and Dekker, but the second we join them they attack to join the rest of the favorites at the front. Sanchez is left struggling again.
img518.imageshack.us/img518/2189/pcm0089qi9.jpg

6km, Sanchez is spent and sits in a secondary group as Cunego, Dekker, Schleck attack the other Favorites.
img48.imageshack.us/img48/7978/pcm0096nh5.jpg

2500m, They're joined by Rebellin and Schumacher. It looks like the 5 of them will settle it between them!
img48.imageshack.us/img48/9025/pcm0098jt8.jpg

And it's Frank Schleck who takes it in front of Rebellin and Dekker. What a win for the CSC rider.

Managers reaction
Well, the classics weren't a big goal for us this season. But i can't help feeling a little disappointed anyways. I know Sammy would've liked to get a podium in one of them. but we have to keep our focus, it was tempting to keep training for Sammy but the risk would be too great. Team morale is still high though, and we're heading into the giro soon. And from now on, that's what's on our minds from now on till it's over.

Next up, May race schedule and PT rankings.

When reading the Pais I thought it was a too easy level for you. Nice to see that I'm wrong and that you aren't winning everything, cause that get's boring to read.. This however is very nice reading!

Race schedule - May
img410.imageshack.us/img410/2867/pcm0102ex8.jpg

Well, we're into may. We've got two races this month that are important to our sponsors. The Vuelta a Asturias and the Volta a Catalunya. Our biggest goal though is a personal one, the Giro d' Italia.

Mikel Astarloza will ride the Tour de Romandie as preperation, we wont be paying much attention to that as the goal is preparation and nothing more. He will then be our captain for the Giro. He will be joined by Igor Anton and Koldo Fernandez in the italian GT.

Haimar Zubeldia will be riding the Vuelta a Asturias. Haimar has decent form at the moment, allthough his training was a bit hampered by his injury in the early season. We wont be paying much attention to that either as it's not a goal for the team as much as for the sponsors.

For the Volta a Catalunya we need a stagewin. We have lots of riders who can accomplish this and we won't select our squad untill the race starts.

Fitness is everything Smile 10 points difference to the competition will put you out of the game. Ill evaluate the difficulty after the Giro. But at the moment, hard is fine as im not toally comfortable with the finer points of managing my energy and effort levels with the new system.

Giro d Italia - Stage 1
img440.imageshack.us/img440/1470/pcm0109jw4.jpg

Stage 1 of the giro is a 30km TTT. Not really our strong side(or mine for that matter) but if we ride hard we shouldn't lose too much time to the other favorites.
As you can see from the startlist this wont be easy! Caisse brought Valverde to the party, which is slightly surprising. Saunier Duval brought all their Aces with them, and with lots of other good stageracers spread across the pack, it's gonna be tought!

This is how we started out - with GCE setting the standard so far.
img48.imageshack.us/img48/5434/pcm0107hv0.jpg

And this is how we cross the line, decimated and spent. This is something we(i) really have to work on. However, the damage is not too great as Astarloza loses just 51 seconds to Team Columbia.
