Surely. He's going to race Tirreno and Basque Tour before the Ardennes, so he will surely pop to level 3 before Amstel. Also he's gone to 72 in hills, it seems the training progresses faster now.
Down Under Classic
Shortly after returning from our 10-day Training Camp in Monaco I travelled to Australia with my new teammates for Down Under Classic where I’ll make my Team High Road debut. On the training camp I felt pretty strong so maybe I’ll have quite good legs today. Also on the camp I caught up with one of our Czech rider Mares and I was sure I knew him from somewhere. I realised that he won the third stage of Ringerike GP last season where I also took part and helped Niki Østergaard to the overall win.
Also in this race is Kairelis, Ciolek, Reynes, Mares, Klier, Grabsch and Padrnos. I thought to myself that I wanted a calm start to the season withi this 48-kilometres street criterium but as the attacks began I couldn’t myself from joining in the fun. Stapleton had told us to just go with whatever comes, so I figured I might go with it.
With 12 kilometres to go the front group had grown to 23 riders but it was almost caught so I gave it one last effort and attacked.
I did get away with Bono of Lampre and I had a slight advantage as the sprint started.
I thought for I moment I had it because the sprinters were way back. But I was fading after the final turn and Allan Davis plus 12 other blew right past as Davis took a commanding win.

If youre aming for JAJ to be like Bettini, wont it be a problem that his rider type is Sprinter?

In my save game using the database from the first PCMDaily release, his rider type is Puncheur, and his stats.. well, its Bettini like I would say. |

It changed it itself for whatever reason, I have no idea why but I'm quite pleased it did

Trofeo Laigueglia
My second race as a ProTour rider is this Italian one-day race and I can’t believe that I’m actually going to ride alongside Paolo Bettini. Tinkoff who signed Østergaard in the off-season also bought another Danish talent, Jakob Fuglsang who I raced alot against last season and it was nice to catch up with him again. He actually beat Østergaard on the last stage of Ringerike GP last season. My form is very low right now so I don’t think I’ll be able to anything else than just protecting Paolo today, but that’s good enough for me so far and I have to get use to that as that’s what I’ll be doing primarily throughout the season.
I struggled on the last climb.
While Bettini got away with a group of favourites trailing a soloing Ignatiev.
The Bettini group got closer and closer as they approached the finish but Ignatiev still had an advantage as Paolo opened the sprint at the head of the group.
He closed in on him fast, but he couldn’t quite get past as Ignatiev took the win with Paolo in second. That’s where I’ll be later this season. At least I hope so.
I came in 32nd in the peloton.

Tour du Haut Var
I remember me telling I was going to race GP Lugano after Laigueglia, seems I forgot this race. Another good route for me but I’m on poor form and it got to work Paolo again. Also with us are Sioutsou, Bak, Zanini, Mares, Reynes and Padrnos. Bettini seemed very up for it today so I’ll my best to get him into a good position and then see how long I can stay with the pack on the final climb.
Bettini hit the decisive break in the finale with Gadret and Rebellin.
Meanwhile I was having a hard time keeping up on the final climb as I was far back in the bunch.
I would come down to a sprint between the three frontrunners and Bettini took it! Our first win of the season and I was there! It was a pretty awesome feeling when our Directeur Sportif informed us that Paolo had won it and it inspired me back in the pack.
Valverde and Vanendert was the between the trio and the pack and they were just caught as we began sprinting so I decided to follow Valverde which resulted in me taking 6th place. I’m very happy with that since I’m not in good form at all and I also recieved praises from Stapleton afterwards.
Next up is GP Lugano.

Well victories will be few and far between this season and honestly I don't think I'll win any ProTour wins, unless I hit the right break at some stage

GP di Lugano
I’ve had a pretty gentle start to my career as a High Road rider as I’ve only taken part in some small one-day races but after this one I’ll face my first big task when I’ll act domestique for one of our riders in Tirreno-Adriatico. One of the most interesting parts of this race is the fact that Ivan Basso has returned from suspension starting from this race and he is even assigned Liquigas captain for the day. I caught a glimpse of him at the sign-in area this morning and it’s quite surreal to see him just walking up the steps signing in for the race as though that was the most natural thing in the world for him. I would have liked to have talked with him but he was constantly followed around by a horde of reporters. Anyway back to the race.
We have a very strong team here today as a lot of our riders will be looking to hone their form ahead of Paris-Nice and Tirreno-Adriatico which is next on the schedule for a lot of our riders. So with us today is me of course, Bettini, Sioutsou, Horner, Hagen, Kairelis, Pinotti and Løvkvist.
Bettini and Horner got into what seemed the crucial break on the last climb.
Prior to this Ivan Basso had to abandon for some reason, I’m not sure why. Hoping to pull the same trick as in Haut Var I tried to stay at the front of the pack and it worked out pretty good as my form must be getting better.
Surprisingly Bettini and Horner’s group was reeled in so we’d have a mass sprint finish. I sat on Bettini’s wheel. Nocentini led it out.
Gerrans would soon move past him as he gained on Zberg who had led down the entire home stretch. In the end Gerrans just pushed his bike over the line just ahead of Zberg.
Bettini took 5th, while I finished in a decent 8th spot. My form is still not good at all so I think I can be in decent form for Tirreno.
