Contador Grabs Spanish Title.
This year's Spanish Championships took place on a very mountainous course, finishing atop the Alto de L'Angliru, however the steep and technical nature was known as the biggest test for the riders. The favourite going into the race was Alberto Contador of Lotto Belisol, and after new rules to all National Championships, he was able to recruit 4 riders to help him to win the race, despite being the only Spaniard on the Lotto Belisol team. The race started with Lotto setting a fast pace on the front to prevent a break from stealing the glory. They then continued to do this controlling the pace and reeling in any attacks from other riders. Then when the hit the final climb, Contador put in a stinging attack that nobody was able to follow and he quickly built up a lead of over a minute on the chasers, so from then on it was a fore gone conclusion as to who would win the title, and he did it with ease, crossing the line over 4 minutes ahead of the nearest challenger. It was then announced that David De La Cruz and Sergio Pardilla had been offered a contract by the Lotto Belisol team, and they duly accepted.
In the time trial it was new Lotto signing De la Cruz who was the favourite, along with new Orica signing Leva after a strong showing in the Road Race (which he rode for Lotto.) However with the hilly nature of the course Road Race Winner Alberto Contador fancied his chances. However it was Lotto's Pardilla that set the bench mark coming in over a minute ahead of 2nd placed Jose Herrada. Then Alberto Contador came in with a time 7" slower than Pardilla to underline how good a ride Pardilla had done. However it was De La Cruz that was the first and only man to beat Pardilla at the first time check bettering his time by over 30". Then as Leva crossed the line he was 20 seconds behind Pardilla, but De la Cruz came home seconds after bettering Pardilla's time by 52", then with only Castroviejo to finish, however he didn't even get on the podium meaning that the podium was filled by the 3 Lotto riders. De La Cruz 1st, Pardilla 2nd Contador 3rd.
Vanbilsen Fights off Lotto.
With a typical Belgian race featuring cobbles and climbs, the favourite going into the race wass Vandenbergh of Banesto, however there were a number of riders who hoped to challenge him. Early on a large break went away featuring two Lotto riders, and 14 other riders, they built up a lead of 6 minutes, but with no big favourites it seemed that they would be caught easily when the race really kicked off. This turned out to be true, but it was a 8 man group that came to fight out the finish, with 4 Lotto riders in the group yet it was Topsport's Vanbilsen that took the race ahead of two Lotto Belisol riders. However the race wasn't as exciting as it was expected to be as the favourites watched themselves until the final few kilometres, when Vanbilsen was able to slip away
Meanwhile in the time trial Philip's Vandewalle went into the race as favourite ahead of Lotto's Van den Broeck. The best early time was set by Tim Wellens of Lotto who had a minute and a half buffer over second placed Veldeman. Then Van den Broeck bettered it by 1", with only Cornu and Vandewalle to finish, then Cornu finished 14" behind Van den Broeck. With just Vandewalle to finish it was his to lose, and he crossed the line 1" ahead of Van Den Broeck to take the title.
Lotto Make it a 1-2 in France
With this year's French national Champiosnhips taking place in the Alps, the clear race favourites were Lotto's power climbers Roman Bardet and Thibaut Pinot. However with Piere Rolland of Cofidis, they were going to have their work cut out as the 9 man Cofidis team would do anything in it's power to take the title. The first attacker of the day was in fact Bardet, who seemed to want to take the race to the rest of them. However Bardet then sat up and on the second climb of the day the Lotto boys rode hard apparently trying to isolate the other contenders, this worked leaving them with just 3 riders for company, Rolland, Barguil and Roux. Then on the next climb they tried the same trick and saw that Barguil and Roux were unable to follow, however they regained contact on the descent after an easing of the pace. Then on the final climb Bardet set a fast tempo, immediately dropping Roux and Bardet, and when Rolland began to suffer Pinot dropped back to the car and attacked across to Bardet who had left Rolland, the two teammates then worked together until the finish, when won the race in a sprint for the line.

Greipel Wins From A Break.
This year's German Championships were held on a flat course, with the favourite for the race being Andre Greipel the strong German sprinter, and with Marcel Kittel missing the championships it appeared he may find it easy in the sprint, but with young gun Rick Zabel improving dramatically in the past few years he may form the Germans main challenger. In the first half of the race no break was allowed to get away, however with 60 kilometre to go Simon Geschke put in an attack and finally managed to forge a lead with Paul Voss, then with 40 kilometres to go Bjorn Thurau of Netapp grid to bridge across, he was then follow by Andre Greipel and they worked together and bridged across with 30 kilometre to go, From then on Geschke did all the work on the front for his teammate, and the gap grew to 5 minutes. From then it seemed a foregone conclusion as to who would emerge victorious and so it proved with Greipel taking the win ahead of Geschke and Voss.
Meanwhile in the time trial there was no surprises as race favourite Tony Martin took the win in dominant fashion ahead of Julian Kern (Lotto).
Boom Blows Up Dutch Nationals.
The favourite going into this year's cobbled Dutch championship is Cyclocross Star Lars Boom, the early race was uneventful with a 16 man group, the most notable riders being Theo Bos (ExxonMobil) and Moreno Hoffland (Unilever). They built up a lead of 3 minutes before Robert Gesink (Unilever) attacked from the peloton and bridged across the gap, before taking a quick rest and then setting to work riding on the front for his team mate and Red Hot Sprinter Hoffland. Then with 80 kilometres to go Lars Boom attacked over the longest sector of Pave and bridged across to the leaders with 60 kilometres to go, Hoffland and then Gesink set off to do the work on the front to build up the gap for their team leader. After his teammates had sacrificed themselves Boom set on on his own and quickly built up a lead. Then his teammates in the bunch attacked and with no response crossed the line to fill all of the top 8 places apart from 2nd, which was taken by Langeveld of Giant. (I was playing as Rabobank Continental Team, just to let you know)
Meanwhile in the time trial the race favourite was Road Race Winner Lars Boom, but he was defeated by teammate Wilco Kelderman after a stunning ride on the flat course around Kerkrade, which saw him win by 19".

Stage 1 - Flat Road Race
The Team
Adam Yates
Andre Greipel
Esteban Chaves
Simon Yates
Adam Hansen
Louis Meintjes
The Race
The plan for today is to work for Andre as he is on good form at the minute, however we also have a back up plan in myself. Today is our first proper race with the team, so I am very much looking forward to it as I really like the team, and we have some very strong riders, I mean I don't think anyone has as strong a team as we do. I mean it was funny Adam was the only guy from the team without a National or in my case World Champions jersey to wear, so we were teasing him on the bus about it, but I know he's ok with it as the team kit is very nice and it's a great quality which is a change from Cannondale, which I didn't really like to be honest. The finish went well for us and we were able to get a good lead out for Andre and I think that showed as I managed to hold on for second, Adam took third and Louis was 5th, but it also shows how much stronger we are than the other teams as we can do a performance like that in the first race of the season.
Simon Yates,
2nd Stage 1, Tour of San Luis

Stage 2 - Flat Road Race
The start of the race went to plan, we were able to get Hansen in the break, so that meant we could just sit back and take it easy, and wait for the sprint as Andre is feeling good at the minute. Adam was then caught with about 10 kilometres to go, so we started to form our train and move up to the front of the bunch, and we were sat on the back of the Sky train, but there was a crash in the last 3 kilometres so Simon and Andre lost the train, so he had to come from a long way out, but he still got the win so its shows the form he has at the moment. I'm happy with my performance as I moved up to 7th overall on GC, so I'm in a good place for the mountains tomorrow and I think Simon is as well so he could get the jersey as he is the best on those sort of stages.

Stage 3 - Hilly Road Race
Today the plan was to split the race on the first climb of the day to isolate the other riders, so Andre said he was willing to ride on the front to split up the race. However when we started the race a break went up the road and some how Andre ended up in the break, and the peloton let it go, so we decided to just sit back and wait, as we still had enough riders for later in the stage, and we knew that Andre would lose the jersey. On the final climb I attacked with Esteban and we were able to build up a gap over the rest of the group, then in the final kilometre I gave him the win and he got a great stage win, which is a great result for him as he is a young rider and as a result I got the jersey, so it was a win, win for us really. I think that Simon is very upset as he was expecting for this to be his day to get a win, but he admits that he isn't on the best form, and he followed an early attack, which we caught at the bottom of the climb, so it wasn't as if he did nothing today, but sometimes that's just bike racing.

Stage 4 - Flat Time Trial
Time Trials are all about going flat out from start to finish, I think that as tomorrow is another hard day it will be interesting as riders will be getting weaker as this is a hard race as there are a lot of difficult stages and the level of the competition here has increased dramatically over the past few days. As for my performance I was very happy as I managed to take time on all my rivals, and for Simon to get the win after the disappointment of yesterday when he was hoping to get the win. I'd just like to say well done to Jurgen Van Den Broeck, who took a great solo win at the Tour Don Under, to put himself in the overall jersey, and I'd just like to wish the guys luck as they have a hard race to go with the likes of Richie Porte and Simon Gerrans there who are on great form after a strong winter. Thanks.
Adam
As from the next stage the difficulty will be changed to Extreme.
