General Career Discussion - PCM 14
DaveTwoBob
Thanks admirschleck, I will try and put another video together for PCM14. My PCM13 career featured lots of Jurgen VdB struggling to hang on to the leaders to limit his losses. He hung on for 3rd in the Giro and Vuelta which I was very pleased with but not really video material Wink.

UPDATE
I reviewed my videos and have found enough material to make a highlights show that I have posted in the PCM13 career thread.

Just started a career with Garmin using the PCM.daily EP...

Aus NC were bad, Dennis could only get 18th in the TT, whilst the RR was better with Haas getting a fourth place, which was quite good, but he had a -4 day so could've been better...

TT:
1. Porte
2. Howson
3. T. Meyer
18. Dennis

RR:
1. Gerrans
2. Porte
3. Evans
4. Haas

NZ NC were quite good, Bauer finished third in the TT and won the RR after outsprinting Bennett and Henderson (Yep, weird sprint...)

TT:
1. Sergent
2. Bewley
3. Bauer

RR:
1. Bauer
2. Bennett
3. Henderson

Tropicale Amissa Bongo also finished, Haas fourth in the GC, but more impressive was Nathan Brown, winning the first stage and wearing the yellow until stage 4 where Roy was too strong for anyone...

GC:
1. Roy
2. B. Feillu
3. L.L. Sanchez
4. Haas

TDU was awesome. For some reason my game uses variants in the first season, but I don't really mind that. The first 3 stages were flat, and von Hoff managed to get a sixth place twice, one time seventh. After that a TT over Willunga hill, which Dennis won easily, 45 secs ahead of Velits. Millar came third and Bauer tenth. Stage 5 was a circuit over Willunga hill, and again Dennis won... Millar lost time and fell to ninth, whereas Bauer climbed to eight overall. Final stage was the best for von Hoff, finishing 4th.

GC:
1. Dennis
2. P. Velits
3. Kennaugh

Meanwhile my scout found this guy:

Can't wait to see his climbing abilities as he's a stage racer... Grin

Holy shit, that guy is awesome.

Meanwhile, I started a nice CT career myself.
Baltic team(AirBaltic). Will stick to Baltic riders as long as I can. Will switch to Scandinavia only when necessary.

Quite some nice regens. That 71MO guy is a future great and will have around ~80MO, which is awesome.

Goal: Promote in the second season

February's done for my Garmin team:

Herald Sun Tour was great fun actually. Brought Millar as main hope for the GC and he secured a 10th place in the prologue. After that von Hoff would finish 2nd for 3 consecutive stages, being beaten by Bennati, Lancaster and Favilli. This way he took the yellow for the final stage. On that final stage Pellizotti went mental and took the GC. Millar did well finishing 3rd in the GC, von Hoff held on to 5th eventually.

GC:
1. Pellizotti
2. Bennati
3. Millar

Vuelta a Mallorca was less fun… After two great sprints from Kreder (2nd and 4th), Contador decided to win the mountain stage, 3 mins ahead of Quintana, 4 ahead of the peloton where Acevedo was suffering… On the final stage a 10 man break made it, but Cardoso couldn’t get further than 7th.

GC:
1. Contador
2. Quintana
3. Boasson Hagen
13. Acevedo

The Tour de Haut Var started well as Dekker won the first stage from a break. Unfortunately he couldn’t follow on the last stage and his break companion Kadri took the GC. Dan Martin rode a good first race in preparation for the Tirreno.

GC:
1. Kadri
2. Damuseau
3. Amador
6. Martin

Meanwhile, also Talansky came back from his summer break in the Vuelta a Andalucia. No real highlights in this race, but Talansky finished 3rd on a stage, and Nuyens managed to get 3rd on the final stage from a break. Contador and Quintana seem to be unstoppable…

GC:
1. Contador
2. Quintana
3. Machado
8. Talansky

And my scout has found the HI stat of my super talent:

Garmin is a fun team to play. Today even more than 2010/11 when I had the story around Martin/Hesjedal/Farrar/Maaskant...

Lots of young, promising riders. So the talent should be well suited.

My god, incredible. I started the same career (sponsor AirBaltic - Rietumu) with Baltic riders (+ Veikkanen from Finland). The riders are pretty the same

Omloop het Nieuwsblad meant cobbles, my weak point in PCM for sure… With Langeveld, Farrar and Vansummeren struggling with their form I had to go for Nuyens, who had a great day. Degenkolb and Terpstra were stronger tho, they attacked with 35km to go and no one has seen them back. Nuyens went with Thomas on the second to last cobblestroke, eventually dropping him, claiming a nice 3rd place that way.

Results:
1. Degenkolb
2. Terpstra
3. Nuyens
4. Wynants
5. Leukemans

The Classic Sud Ardeche – Souvenir Francis Delpech ended in a reduced bunch sprint. Haas couldn’t really reach his top speed, but we’re still pleased with the result.

Results:
1. Bouet
2. Haas
3. Rebellin

Clasica de Almeria is Navardauskas’ start of a short MSR campaign, which will hopefully result in winning the monument. So far it looks promising, taking an easy win in Spain.

Results:
1. Navardauskas
2. Bennati
3. Richeze

A day after the race we get the news Millar has broken his arm on a training ride, forcing us to select a replacement rider for MSR, Catalunya and the Basque Country… He’ll also miss the Giro, but this also means he will take the vacant spot I had for the Vuelta.

Le Samyn. Let’s start with a surprise: Farrar failed. This game is so realistic that Farrar couldn’t even finish in the top 100… On the bright side though, Kreder won! Grin Race ended with a 7-man sprint.

Results:
1. Kreder
2. Bak
3. Stuyven

Well, I can now say that Robert Islip, the talent I found in my Garmin career is really really gifted...

Future great stage racer:
dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/33r8a3mns9b4p6o/PCM0014.png

Already as good as Velits, Brajkovic and Amador Pfft

Meanwhile, this game is too realistic: Farrar has fallen ill during Paris - Nice, forcing him to abandon and Dan Martin has fallen on the first flat stage of the Tirreno, after we finished second in the TTT. (My game uses variants) No time lost, but can't be good...

Some help needed in picking a team, out of AG2R,FDJ or Cofidis who would you pick?

Jesleyh
FDJ is a great team to play with, would go for them.

I actually hope that talent is a one in a million... Huge advantage for the next years, will sign him as a stagiare as soon as I can...

Meanwhile I completed Paris - Nice and the Tirreno - Adriatico.

Both races were highly contested, leaving us to fight for minor top 10 placings...

That said Navardauskas and Slagter both won a stage in France, but eventually Talansky was the main man and he nly finished 7th in the GC...

GC:
1. Froome
2. Kwiatkowski
3. Aru
7. Talansky

In Italy the team snatched a second place in the TTT, which was the only thing worth mentioning apart from Dan's crash...

GC:
1. Contador
2. Quintana
3. Nibali
8. Dan Martin

Hi,

I'm halfway through my first season with a custom continental team and it sure seems like I will promote to Pro-Continental. I've hit June and am about to sign some new riders. However, should I wait with this?

I guess that my max roster size will grow, so will I be able to sign more riders now or will I have to wait untill the promotion is "sure".

And when will my budget increase due to promotion?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm just a bit confused... Smile

Only been playing the game a couple of years, on and off. Unfortunately haven't got much time to play but will be off for a while so will be able to play much more in the next few weeks and want to start a proper career.

Couple of questions first:

First, what is the best database to download? I haven't got any and I'm currently playing the Focus database. All I want to do is create a custom team, so not sure if there is a better database for this. Ideally I'd like the real names but I'm not that fussed about it.

Secondly, I was playing around in the career mode, "creating" custom teams and there are two different sort of teams I would like to create:
One team made of only French riders and another one made of only Young Riders.
I'd like my French team to be based around Pinot and Bardet and also wanted to have at least one good puncher (Gallopin and/or Vichot) but after selecting these riders, my team was automatically a Pro Tour team which I wanted to avoid. Is there a limit on the rider's average stats which means that my team will not be entered as a Pro Tour team. Or is there a way to make it start as a continental team? I guess I shouldn't select riders that are that good right?

Also, as I mentioned above, I was playing around scouting young riders to create a team with riders of every specialisation and have a squad of 17 riders, 4 "Future Greats and the rest are "Promising". Will this squad make the career too "easy" in the future (I already have 10 riders with an average of 70+). I play the game on hard setting and I'm OK at it, but I would like my career to be a bit of a challenge. Should I get more riders that are "Worth Watching" instead of selecting the ones that are either "Future Greats" or "Promising"?

Thanks for the help.

1. Because of its amount of sponsors, the best db for a custom team is clearly the ExpansionPack 2014 by pcm.daily.
2. The limit is on the rider's wage total, not on average stats. You start with a budget of 1.000.000 € with 900000 € (or more) you'll play with a conti team, with (if I remember correctly) 600000 € remaining or more a Conti PRO and with less of 600000 a WT TEAM.
3. It doesn't depend for "Future Greats, Promising and Worth Watching". Often scouts are uncorrect on those things. If you (e.g.) scout in 6 zones of France and you find 4 Worth Watching 5 Promising and 2 Future Greats it doesn't always mean that they will Overpower your team. It isn't really a "realism" problem if you scout a lot of talents, the 33% of them aren't that great.

@gargatouf - PCMdaily DB, definitely. The irony is that I am using Focus DB below, but I stated my reasons. Both DBs are great, but if you're the type of person that care about quality, alot of variants, alot of sponsors and stuff like that, Daily should be your choice.

---

After few unsucessful tries to start a custom or WT career, I decided to try once again, but this time with a sponsor that was already part of cycling. A big part of it. It is Liquigas team, that competes in PCT division and is 2nd or 3rd best team over there. I wanted to make it realistic, so majority of guys are from Italy, but there are couple Slovenians, Slovakians, Czechs and Polish guys. All in all, it looks really cool and I am enjoying it (my only 2nd PCM career that I enjoy in literally over 100 tries).

It's, as you can see, PCMFocus DB and that's a bit weird, considering I am part of Daily DB team, but I picked Focus because of one simple reason - it has less variants, less graphics and it's just much lighter. I don't really care about tons of variants, supercool equipment and stuff like that. Of course, I had to change few stats here and there, but all in all, one really solid team.

i.imgur.com/gQUCN8N.png

Also, don't get fooled by amount of 70+ AVG guys, as this is Focus DB and we all know the matrix they're using, so ye. Even then, I really rate this team high in PCT and the main goal this season is certainly to promote. I am also planning to play every single stage (except TTTs), so flat stats hopefully won't make big troubles and it should be alot of fun.

Currently, we're on 5th stage of Tour de San Luis and season started perfectly, as Taborre took the overall win in Amissa Bongo, while we also managed to achieve two 2nd places and one stage win. Szmyd is now fighting for a podium place in Argentina and it's generally great fun. I didn't enjoy PCM this much since my Trek story. Thanks to Zweers for a great pack! Smile

After playing this game for 10 years, I have finally run out of ideas for a good career. I have been a big fan of the Custom part of the game. I love the things that are different for irl and my next career should be a custom one aswell.

So aside that I don't want to play a WT team, can you come with some suggestions for real Continental teams with a bright future , or riders that is descent , which can be in charge of a team, where I can build around them.

As for goals I am definitely run out, as I think that I have tried to achieve almost anything ( Except beeting Mercxx Records ). The riders is prefered to be coming from France , Spain or Italy as I want to fight for a wildcard in the first seasons in the GT in the season. As for the sponsor I will take a mediocre sponsor with descent money irl or probably request a jersey Smile

Any help is apreciated
