baia - Sure is great. Orica having an amazing season, especially with Gerrans (TDU, MSR, LBL and 2 stages in the Tour)
FonsDeSpons - I'm quite curious myself, thanks!
As you notice, the pace is slowly dropping. I hope this doesn't bother anyone. But there's more to life than PCM alone, so as school and work pick up again, PCM time goes down just a bit.
But don't worry, I'm doing my best |

Yesterday at the training I got hit by a car. Okay, I was riding right next to the cycling path, but because it was in a horrible state, you just get a flat tire thinking about it, so to speak. The car was honking behind me, so impatient. I wondered where he needed to be so quickly? Instead of waiting 100 meters to where the road gets wider, he tried a manouvre to get passed me, which resulted in me going down.
All in all I was very lucky. Some flesh wounds mostly. Though I did hurt my thumb pretty badly. My Eneco Tour isn't in any danger, though, but I hope it won't bother me in the race!
I hope that cyclist can train safely in the near future. I was lucky today, tomorrow I might not be. A little respect wouldn't hurt.
At least not as bad as my thumb.
I'll see you at the Eneco Tour!

It's the Eneco Tour and the expectations are very high. There is a lot of pressure to perform well here, which is the big difference from the Tour of Poland, where I was the big surprise. Let's hope I can cope with the stress!
The Belgian press is starting to get to know me. They count me as a strong outsider for the overall victory here on a profile with 6 flat stages, a cobbled/hilly stage and a prologue.
The team has send me here as leader. Matthews is here to sprint, I'm here for the GC, they expect a top 10.
I, myself, hope for a good result, too. A top 10 would be great, but secretly I hope for the podium. Why not?
Profile A prologue. I've been making a lot of progress on the time trial bike, especially short distance. Let's put it to the test, today!
I really made a great effort today, which makes me happy!
1 | Marcel Kittel | Team Giant - Shimano | 6'12 | 2 | Tyler Farrar | Garmin Sharp | + 2 | 3 | Peter Sagan | Cannondale | + 3 | 4 | Wilco Kelderman | Belkin Pro Cycling Team | s.t. | 5 | Lars Boom | Belkin Pro Cycling Team | + 6 | 6 | Damien Gaudin | AG2R La Mondiale | + 8 | 7 | Jürgen Roelandts | Lotto Belisol | + 10 | 8 | Bob Jungels | Trek Factory Racing | + 11 | 9 | Alexey Lutsenko | Astana Pro Team | + 14 | 10 | Philippe Gilbert | BMC Racing Team | + 15 | 11 | Matthias Vleminckx | Orica GreenEdge | s.t. | 12 | Giacomo Nizzolo | Trek Factory Racing | s.t. | 13 | Andrey Amador | Movistar Team | s.t. | 14 | Sérgio Paulinho | Tinkoff - Saxo | + 16 | 15 | Luke Durbridge | Orica GreenEdge | s.t. |
After a perfect start, it was time to climb up the rankings.
Profile The finale should suit me very well. However, with Matthews here, he is our first pick for today. I will lead him out probably.
I had no problem from my thumb injury, which was the good news of the day.
And it turned out to be the only good news of the day. 20 kilometers left to go, the pace went up dramatically, all prep work for the sprint. At that time, I get a flat...
I changed my wheel very quickly and started chasing, it wasn't too late just yet. I passed some guys who were left behind and they latched on. Just when I saw the cars behind the peloton, my wheel got out of control. In changing the tire, something has gone wrong! I hit the ground!
I stayed down for about a minute, it really hurt. I had fallen on my right leg and shoulder. I got up eventually to finish the race.
Two team mates had waited for me, but it was too late. I couldn't even go 35 kph anymore. My leg hurt like hell. I finished 6 minutes down.
1 | Marcel Kittel | Team Giant - Shimano | 3h54'18 | 2 | André Greipel | Lotto Belisol | s.t. | 3 | Peter Sagan | Cannondale | s.t. | 4 | Michael Matthews | Orica GreenEdge | s.t. | 5 | Tom Boonen | Omega Pharma - Quick·Step Cycling Team | s.t. | 6 | Tyler Farrar | Garmin Sharp | s.t. | 7 | Luka Mezgec | Team Giant - Shimano | s.t. | 8 | Nacer Bouhanni | FDJ.fr | s.t. | 9 | Arnaud Demare | FDJ.fr | s.t. | 10 | Jürgen Roelandts | Lotto Belisol | s.t. |
I had made the finish, but that's it. The Eneco Tour had to go on without me. The next morning, I couldn't hardly get out of bed.
The injury worries me. The team doctor guesses I'll be out for about two to three weeks. I shouldn't lose too much condition, but I would probably miss the Vuelta, which would've been my first grand tour.
Damn it.
Matt

It's been four weeks since my injury. Finally I'm back in good shape, it took a bit longer than we had expected. I'll be back in competition in the GP de Wallonie. But first, the result of the Vuelta!
Vuelta a España 1 | Alejandro Valverde | Movistar Team | 76h12'42 | 2 | Chris Horner | Lampre - Merida | + 2'33 | 3 | Daniel Moreno | Team Katusha | + 5'27 | 4 | JoaquÃm RodrÃguez | Team Katusha | + 7'04 | 5 | Nicolas Roche | Tinkoff - Saxo | + 7'58 | 6 | Michael Rogers | Tinkoff - Saxo | + 10'18 | 7 | Simon Clarke | Orica GreenEdge | + 12'50 | 8 | Igor Antón | Movistar Team | + 13'22 | 9 | Sergio Henao | Team Sky | + 13'47 | 10 | Jan Bakelants | Omega Pharma - Quick·Step Cycling Team | + 20'48 |
Our Vuelta was quite successful. We won the opening Team Time Trial and stages with Matthews, Albasini and Impey.
Alejandro Valverde wins the Tour de France and the Vuelta a España in the same year and writes history. Only Anquetil and Hinault have done this before. While Horner surprises even further by finishing on the podium in the Tour and in the Vuelta. He seems to be aging backwards.
GP Québec: Rui Costa
GP Montréal: Michal Kwiatkowski
But I have much more exciting news for you today!
The national coach has released 8 names which are almost a certainty for the World Championship Road Race. They are:
Gilbert, Van Den Broeck, Boonen, Van Avermaet, Bakelants, Devenyns, Leukemans, Meersman.
So three Belgian riders will fight for place 9. This is what Het Nieuwsblad had to say about it:
Our ninth man for the Worlds?
The national coach of the Belgian cycling team has a hard decision to make. Earlier he revealed eight names for the World Championship Road Race (see yesterday's paper). Just an hour ago, he named the three candidates for the ninth and final spot. We listed them for you:
Who? Tim Wellens
Pros? Wellens has proved to be an exceptional team mate in the Ardennes Classics. He also won the Tour de Wallonie with an impressive breakaway stage win. He's explosive and can survive hills well. Wellens has no problem riding for the team in the first 150 kilometers.
Cons? Wellens is still young and hasn't proved he can handle the distance. The WC route is very tough.
Who? Kenneth Vanbilsen
Pros? Vanbilsen has performed well all through the season. With several victories and podium places, he seems a good pick for just about any race. He is the oldest of the three candidates.
Cons? Vanbilsen has had a tough season and is clearly decreasing in form. His last good result is from more than a month ago.
Who? Matthias Vleminckx
Pros? Vleminckx proved in the Tour of Poland that he can survive on tough terrain. His potential seems limitless. He has had a moderate schedule this season and is far from tired.
Cons? Vleminckx lacks experience in races like this. He has been out with a injury for about a month now. Will he be fit enough?
I hope to see you in Spain for the Worlds. Let's hope I get the spot!

Tomorrow, one of my dreams will come true.
I've been selected to ride in the World Championships! I'm real happy about the chance I've been given. I'll put in my greatest effort yet.

With Porte and one neopro signed so far, Orica concluded its transfer season with two final signings. We are extremely proud to present the World Champion U23 and winner of the Tour de l'Avenir Nik Bozic! He is a future Grand Tour winner, we're sure of that! He'll get the experience he needs from us.
Lastly, we have signed the next big thing for Australian cycling. Time trial machine Charlie Pearce. We hope he can develop into a next Tony Martin with us!
Tomorrow is the big event, and I'll be part of it!
How great is that?
Matt
