- All - Would have been one hell of a GC battle if there was no Evans/ Sanchez.
STAGE 21: Cercedilla - Madrid 117 KM
Surely a sprint is destined on this final flattish route. An 8 man break are well in control by Faema and Garin when Leukemans attacks with 30 kilometres to go... With 13 kilometres to go Sami Sanchez attacks and joins up with the Belgian, this really gets under the skin of the sprint teams and they up the pace big time and the catch to both breaks is made.
SHIRLEY DOWN SHIRLEY DOWN. With 6 kilometres to go Shirley of Stella falls and chaos ensues, Voeckler.... Voigt and Kloden were the biggest name casulites.
Voeckler further plummets in the GC whilst Voigt and Kloden would miss out on the top 10. The crash forces Mancebo to retire, so close yet so far to the finish.
Nys puts in a big final effort for Petacchi up front... Paolini comes to lead the field with Sami Sanchez not far behind....
But Petacchi was just too good. Win no.2 for Ale-jet. A great team performance once again by Garin. Sami Sanchez, the one man gang, finishes 2nd... he wins the Vuelta.

I think we played it out nicely, good draft pick, good coach, good support
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Sanchez did all the team points just himself, didn't he?

Look at all the sprinters in the top 10 on the final stage. Seems fitting that doped up Sanchez gets 2nd on a flat stage. |

Well, we're down to 6 riders at the end but Zubeldia did us proud. Can't wait for Samu's urine sample. It will be glow in the dark. |

8th in the GC, not a bad comeback at all.
And surely Poos deserves an award for Combative rider?

Thanks to everyone who has commented regularly and posted a team preview etc which made this a great experience.
I never wanted a one rider dominance to take place so TOTC3 may be on the horizon where the Giro will be used, HOWEVER, four/five stages will be replaced with 3 cobbled stages, Milan San Remo and the like as well as much tighter rider restrictions and a more simplistic and efficient process will be used. So picking a jersey/ team can be done in 5 mins max.
If you enjoyed the reports etc by all means come to my 'Qatar Optics' thread in the meantime.... |

Evans bringing Liberia to 2nd in UC far behind Aer Lingus. Not sure how Evans doesn't have a 100% score, since I didn't have any other good riders.
To avoid domination in ToTC 3, you might exclude Italian riders, so there are no riders with nationality bonus. |

@ mvhoogdalem - I was going to put big average restrictions on, but that is a great idea for the bigger name Italian riders which are left.
