Well done with the sprint, you're getting closer and closer, next time it must be a win. |

Sutty & Baia: Sure was! We were really unlucky not to win.
Welker: I like to be a bit ahead. I think it's good, just in case something goes on in my life. For example, I won't be playing much PCM come Monday.
Hobbit: Hopefully

The Profile
An interesting profile which, as I said yesterday, is made for Duque. The hill before the finish should eliminate most of the pure sprinters, making the stage ours to lose.
The Race
The breakaway today consisted of 5 non-interesting riders.
Leo Duque was feeling great (+5), so surely we would have our win.
The pace was very high during the last 25km, causing problems in the peloton.
Suarez was dead bringing water, so we would have to improvise our train. Arango was in A1 and Avila was badly placed. So, Duque followed Verraes (AJW), and I followed Navarro (COF) just in case.
As Verraes dropped back, Leo had to find a new wheel. Going into the last 3km, the breakaway would win. Duque decided to follow Konig.
Meijas (TNN) took the win from the break.
Leo was left behind in the sprint, after being blocked. While Arango from A1 to the front of the peloton.
Ciolek was the best of the peloton again. He took 6th from Matysiak (CCC), followed by a quintet of our riders.
Tomorrow is quite the same, so hopefully the break won't stay away. We'll find out in a bit, but until then...

Sutty: What's your connection with Meijas?
Baia: Not too bad, yeah. Duque has a good chance tomorrow, so hopefully he'll make good use of it.

The Profile
Another stage for Duque, hopefully he can take his chance.
The Race
There was a 6 man break, and Valencia attacked for the remaining 2 points on the Cat. 1. He took it... by 2'30".
There was no danger in the breakaway, so there was no chase. No win for Duque, then - one would think.
Delfosse (CCB) took the stage win, while Duque was having another great day in the pack...
Arango, Reimer (MTN) and Cardoso (EFG) hit the deck! This causes a split in the peloton!
Modolo was the best in the bunch today.
Tomorrow is a time-trial with a mountain finish. Tough, but hopefully I'll survive it . Until then...

Amgen Tour of California
Stage 6
The Profile
Duarte, Atapuma and myself should all do well here.
The Race
Arango lead at the first time check, then faded badly. However, he picked up again and finished first provisional.
The same thing happened to Duque. It was going in a pattern it seemed for us: Good-bad-bad-good. As long as the last one stayed good we were happy .
I was 9th at the first time check, 19" behind.
Meanwhile, Duarte took the lead.
I ended up 5th at 1'17". I even overtook Mironov.
And it was Duarte who took the stage!
He was also closing in on yellow. With all of the Top 4 riders, it becoming an internal battle for us.
My Views
Not a bad day at all. Tomorrow is the last stage I can realistically lose yellow, so I need to be on top of my game. Until then...

Amgen Tour of California
Stage 7
The Profile
Very tough. Duarte might take the yellow jersey away from me today, but I'll have to keep fighting.
The Race
Valenica got 4th on the first climb, and kept riding. Eventually he caught the breakaway. He won the 2nd as well as the KoM jersey!
Duarte and Atapuma were easily the strongest. Chalapud was protecting me.
Reijnen was leading the breakaway by 2'40" with 5km to go. He was at 12'53" in the GC though .
He of course took the stage win!
I was running out of energy faster than Chalapud! So, he stopped protecting. Duarte would get the yellow jersey.
Duarte finished in 2nd, beating Valencia and then Cammaerts. Atapuma came after him.
Goodbye yellow! So close!
Tomorrow we have a flat stage for Duque. Hopefully he can finally get a win! Until then...

Amgen Tour of California
Stage 8
The Profile
Sprinting for Duque here. Not much else to say.
The Race
5 guys made up the breakaway, hoping to take something from a tired peloton.
Fast forward to the final kilometres. Duque followed Jempy Drucker.
He was rewarded with 2nd! Modolo took 1st with Ciolek 3rd but coming fast.
My Views
So, the Amgen Tour of California comes to an end. With the Top 4 in the GC as well as 3 stage wins - we have to be happy with our performance. Next up, the Monthly Awards. Until then...

What a performance from the team! A nice inter squad rivalry building up too, not team orders here! |

I think it's more the WT bug. Also, Duarte is also OP for this level. You'll see in the Qinghai.

DS Version: We need to get a win here. We have the best riders, so there's no excuse. It will be decided on the final three climbs, so don't screw up.
My Version: There's actually a quality field here, but as long as we're awake on the final climbs we should be fine.
