Breakaway win for Looij. Having a strong season.
And many gaps, as I predicted, but juding from Strava recordings (8 guys), they had a finishing circuit of ~4 or 5 km, only the last 200 m were outside the circuit after a U turn. How stupid.
The 5th guy is a Sojasun espoirs guy, don't know why his team isn't mentioned. He's the one who ridiculed my times on a few Strava segments around here last week. |

This is the first big result for Mads in the U23's. He found it tough so far, but seems with steady progress he's already acustommed pretty well.
Should get lots of confidence from this win.

Austrian 1-2. You don't see that every day now that Wrolich and Kohl are gone for quite some time and Eisel isn't more than a capitaine de route.

Gregor is another one of the most promising talents this year, already won a prologue and 4th in tough Istrian Spring Trophy and took one of the bigger U23 classics in Italy in the spring. And a preety amazing TT here. Seems a very good TT'er with good punchy skills, should get the GC wrapped up here.
.....
National Championships Belgium MJ - ITT (NC)
The current World ITT Champion in juniors ranks Decraene wins the Belgium ITT. Calling it now - future world champion in TT.

That's a big call this early in his career. He is admittedly brilliant in the discipline but many have failed after this (Though I guess Junior ITTs are a great predictor talent than road races). I wouldn't be surprised if he does what a lot of others have done and instead focuses on classics. It seems to be the Belgian way of things.
In other news Elias Van Breussegem wins the U23 Belgian title. He has done nothing else of note lately. I am guessing a lot of the other talented U23s (Frison, etc) are either injured or elsewhere. There are too many U23 races on at the moment.

Well, calling it early allows me to show it off in the future, and if he doesn't, well nothing is lost
I am looking forward to see the times for U23 Belgian title and Igor's time, they rode the same exact course with the same length. Will post it later today to see where he would end up if he rode with the U23. Igor won already few races this season btw, they don't show up on PCS as they are all junior races obviously.
He's training a lot on his TT bike improving his technique and his big target are Worlds again from his recent interview.

Agreed. I have no idea why Lindeman doesn't ride for Wanty or Giant yet, he's good enough for PCT at least.

And also the last stage of this U23 race goes to the Romanian rider. The Austrian prospect Mühlberger wins the GC.

3 days to go until one of the highlights of the U23 season. Ronde de l'Isard
2 MTFs 1 TT. 1 Sprint Stage. Last stage with 3 big cols ending on a donwhill to the finish and some flat.
Basically slightly shorter Avenir this year. Should be epic. Starlist posted here in next days.
Profiles for these stages can be seen here:

Ronde de l'Isard U2.2
Verveake appeared the strongest on the stage, also due to doing least work as Tiesj Benoot put quite amazing ride at the front for him. The boy can climb too
Anyway Verveake attacked a lot in last 3km, but Foliforov and Roson stayed with him. Foliforov attacked in last km to take the MTF.

Vervaeke owes another one to Benoot. Calmejane broke early on the climb as was no big threat to GC and did very well. Benoot then closed the last final kms, he dropped Folifirov and Roson ( 1st and 2nd yesterday) and then Vervaeke sprinted at the end to take GC.
Vervaeke has a big GC lead now. Levandier is 2nd and Benoot as domestique on 3rd.
Tomorrow easy flat day before a 17km ITT.
( btw Benoot and Vervaeke are teammates for Lotto Belisol U23 team for those who didn't know)

Ronde de l'Isard (2.2U)
Stage 3a
Break took it. Benoot again showing how good he is, puncheur, climber and a decent sprinter at that
17km ITT coming up later today.
