It's a useless Giro so far for IAM. Tschopp is doing reasonable with a 44th place, but the rest isn't even in the top 100, and that's clearly disappointing for guys like Larsson and Löfkvist.
By the way, I can't see Marcel Wyss in the GC standings, did he leave the Giro?

Missed that, thanks for replying. Wyss being abandoned probably ruins IAM's mountain plans though.
Hello and welcome to the last stage before the rest day tomorrow. It is very likely there will be no attack on the GC, and a break will succeed. At the time of speaking, we are 123kms from the line and a break of the following 7 riders is ahead: Sylvain Chavanel (Omega Pharma), Hubert Dupont (AG2R), Sandy Casar (FDJ), Michael Albasini (Orica-GreenEdge), Gorka Verdugo (Euskaltel), Tom Dumoulin (Argos) and Fabio Felline (Androni). Chavanel is currently 20th in the GC, 4min30 behind.
The pack is lead by Sky, Blanco, Movistar, Cannondale and Vini Fantini.
Sprint 1 is uncontested for Casar. 2nd Albasini. The lead has already grown to 4min15.
At the top of the Passo della Consuma (Cat2), Chavanel beats Albasini and blue jersey Casar. The gap has grown to 7min27.
At the top of the Vallombrosa (Cat2), Casar beats Albasini and Dupont. With 73kms left, the gap is still 8min23.
At sprint 2, Casar again. 2nd Felline. With 48kms left, the gap is 7min06. It looks like the break will succeed.
At the top of the Vetta le Croci (Cat.3) Dupont beats Albasini and Casar. The gap, with 35kms left, has decreased to 5min45.
On the downhill, Samuel Sanchez gets dropped from the pack. It seems like this is the end for his GC.
At the top of the Fiesole, 9kms from the line. Dupont beats Albasini. These 2 riders seem to have a gap to the rest. The gap to the pack is 3min58.
With 5kms left, the two hold a small gap to Casar, who is almost joined by Chavanel.
With 2kms left, the duo still has a gap and will sprint for the stage win.
With 0,5 kms left, the sprint starts.
At the line
a clear victory for Michael Albasini. 2nd is thus Dupont, 3rd Casar, 4th Chavanel. Verdugo finishes solo at 5th. Dumoulin 6th, Felline 7. No attacks from the pack, where the sprint is won by Daniel Moreno. Sanchez loses 2 minutes. Chavanel climbs to 6 in the GC, blue is still for Casar.

I will update the standings as soon as the preview is on. 2 people have won the bet for leading after week 1 btw
Edited by Selwink on 01-06-2013 10:25
I will write a rest day report later today (my nephew is turning 3 today, gotta visit). I will include all standings there. It will obviously also show up in the standings post on page 1 (referral in my sign)
@mvhoogdalem: I think Sanchez was already in difficulty on the climb and the pack split.
Is this the end of week 1?
How about the first week bets? (Who is leading after the first day). I scored quite good on that... Or was that amount already included in the money I have?

The bet was for the leader of the gc after week 1, not day 1. The week1 bets, so who will lead then, will be included for the next stage. And yes, this was indeed week 1

Sorry, typo, obviously meant week 1, wouldn't make sense to bet for the GC leader after 1 day
We have now had the first week in the Giro. We have had various types of winners, and many different. Here is an overview per stage:
Stage 1: The opening stage of this Giro promised to be a sprint of those who could get over hills. After a break of Bandiera, Bongiorno, Le Bon and Pantano, where Bandiera got blue, the mass sprint was won by John Degenkolb, ahead of Bennati and Modolo.
Stage 2: In this team time trial, the first differences for the GC were set. Sky won, bringing Cataldo to the pink. Nibali lost a lot of time.
Stage 3: Anything could happen in this stage. After a break of 6, one rider of this early break survived to the line: Daniele Ratto brought Cannondale a stage win. Gilbert was 2nd and took pink.
Stage 4: A quite similar stage to the previous one. The break of 5 riders could not succeed today however. In the mass sprint of the favorites, it was surprisingly Ivan Basso bringing Cannondale 2 wins in a row. Gilbert still in pink.
Stage 5: The 2nd flat stage that isnt really flat. Just before the finish line in Matera, there is a long climb. Some sprinters survived however. Of these sprinters, John Degenkolb was the fastest, bringing Argos victory no 2.
Stage 6: The first real flat stage. The tough wind brought some riders in trouble, 11 riders even didnt make the cut, including blue jersey Kessiakoff. Since the real sprinter teams wanted victory, the break got no chance. The sprint was surprisingly won by Ferrari.
Stage 7: A new stage that could mean anything. This time, it was for the punchers. The early break didnt make it and Valverde won the sprint of the pack. Casar took over the blue.
Stage 8: An individual time trial, where the first real differences would be set. In the end, Chris Froome took over a minute in both the stage and the GC. Nibali once again lost time.
Stage 9: The last stage before the rest day, but for most riders still a kind of a rest day. The break was given a lot of freedom and succeeded. Michael Albasini beat Dupont in a sprint-a-deux. Sami Sanchez lost time.

Well, you won this one, so I included it in the current standing. You have clumb enormously
Today we have the first important stage for the GC. This is because of the finish on the Altopiano del Montasio, the first mountain top finish in the Giro. This will indicate who has a good shape and who are the favorites for the pink in Brescia.
The favorites
