Ste & Sutty: Thanks
 Volta Limburg Classic
This flat Dutch classic will probably only end one way: with a bunch sprint. The flat course should favour the top sprinters, making riders like Renshaw (Blanco) and Henderson (Lotto) favorites. Our best hope is Janse Van Rensburg.
170kms to go
The break is formed quickly, containing Aru (Astana) and Arndt (Argos). Neither are threats on this terrain, so the pair is given a relatively generous gap of 3’45” very quickly.
10kms to go
But the pair never gets a big enough gap, and is caught just inside the last 10kms. Everything looks set for a bunch sprint, but there is a lull in the pace at the front though, so Hoffman decides to go on the offensive for us. He quickly gets a large gap.
5kms to go
Hoffman has a gap of 52” go in into the final 5kms, with another group of four in between the South African and the bunch. Janse Van Rensburg is well positioned behind, in Dehaes’ wheel. Things are looking promising for Hoffman though.
1000m to go
But our South African gets caught under the flammage rouge. A shame, but kudos to him for trying. Renshaw is currently in the lead, while Dehaes is beig lead out by Bak. Janse Van Rensburg is further behind.
300m to go
But with the finish line approaching, Janse Van Rensburg turns on his legs and comes powering through! Can he catch Renshaw for the win? Gavazzi is also coming through fast.
Finish
It is the Astana rider, Gavazzi who takes the win today. Renshaw is second, while Janse Van Rensburg was a bit blocked in the end by the Australian. A great ride form him though earns him a podium place in third.

Comments
A very active race for the team, which ended with a solid podium. A job well done for Reinardt. Nolan also deserves a mention after his solo attack which I thought was going to make it. Anyway, a good way to round out March.

Individual:

Pozatto is leading the rankings, mostly thanks to his E3 win, and 5th overall at Paris Nice. Costa is second after winning the race to the Sun and Catalunya. Our best placed rider is Reinardt in 73rd, on 174 points.
Team:

OPQS are unsurprisingly top, probably because of their cobbled dominance in general. Movistar are keeping up their good form in second because of Lastras and Costa’s wins. As expected, we fall back in the rankings to 24th, the fifth best Pro Continental team. We should do better in April though.
Individual:

Cofidis’ Poulhies leads the rankings for the French team due to his Tour de Normandie win, and four stage wins in Langkawi. Commeyne is also doing well because of his successes in Taiwan and at the Dwars door Vlaanderen (2nd and 5th). Tiernan-Locke and Janse Van Rensburg are in 11th and 12th.
Team:
Promotion favorites Europcar are ahead after Coquard had a brilliant month for them. After a bad March we fall back from 1st to 5th. April should be better though due to our prep races for the Giro
Reinardt Janse Van Rensburg
Reinardt sprinting to 3rd place in Limburg
In not a great month for the team, Reinardt produced some decent results for the team. Highlights were him finishing 5th in the Critérium International TT, and his 3rd place at the Volta Limburg Classic. He’ll continue to lead us until mid-april, where he will take a rest.
We have signed our first rider for next season, David Kunz from the U23 races. He won 2 stages and the overall at the Grand Prix de Portugal, and the TT by over a minute. After I signed him I checked in the editor for his stat limits. I will reveal more later, but he will be a beast (Very Cancellara like

We start April in France, for the Circuit Sarthe - Pays de la Loire. It should be a race suited to all-rounders because there is sprinting, climbing and time-trialling involved. Our leader is Reinardt, who can certainly do all of those things decently. We think he can achieve a good overall position.
Bert-Jan could also be one to look out for in the hills, and Nolan can sprint well. Martijn can also TT but he isn't on top form here. It should be an interesting race for us. |

Circuit Sarthe - Pays de la Loire Stage 1
Today’s opening stage should favor the sprinters. It is mainly flat, with a few short hills that won’t really do much. There is a strong field of sprinters attending, including riders like Demare, Bouhanni (Both FDJ) and Swift (Sky). They should be the main favorites. Our best hope today is Janse Van Rensburg, for whom a top 10 is not past his capabilities.
3500m to go
The break has been dealt with and we are heading for a bunch sprint. Euskatel and Sojasun both have trains for Serebryakov and Simon, while the rest of the sprinters have to fend for themselves. Janse Van Rensburg has Vachon (Bretagne)’s wheel.
Finish
Dehaes takes a surprising win for Lotto which also gets him the Leader’s Jersey. Serebryakov and Demare round out the top three, and GC contender Phinney takes fourth. Janse Van Rensburg finishes fifteenth after running out of steam in the run-in.

Circuit Sarthe - Pays de la Loire Stage 2
Today is like yesterday, but flatter and shorter. The favorites must be the riders who did well yesterday like Dehaes (Lotto), Demare (FDJ) and Serebryakov (Euskatel). Janse Van Rensburg will try and improve on yesterday’s fifteenth ahead of tomorrow’s TT.
3000m to go
BMC and Sojasun have set up trains for Phinney and Simon. Sojasun’s train failed yesterday so it will be interesting to see whether it can do better today. Janse Van Rensburg has Serebryakov’s wheel and is near the front.
Finish
Serebryakov takes the win today, for Euskatel. Janse Van Rensburg picked the right wheel and earns second which is a massive improvement on yesterday. A shame he couldn’t find the strength to come past the Russian. Sojasun’s train did better today and Simon is third, while Demare and Swift round out the top 5.
This good result leaves Janse Van Rensburg 4th in the GC, which could become first tomorrow due to him being one of the best TT'ers here.

A bad first stage from Reinardt, but a great second. We can hope for a good result tomorrow to steer him towards a high GC placing.

Circuit Sarthe - Pays de la Loire Stage 3
Today is the TT, which could prove decisive. It is only 6kms long, so the prologue specialist’s should be the favorites. Riders like Phinney (BMC), Kiryienka (Sky) and Bak (Lotto) are the pre-race favorites and will be looking to move ahead of the sprinters in the overall standings. Our goal for today is for Janse Van Rensburg to see if he can move into the top 3 or even first in the GC.
Phinney took a dominant win, crushing the field and having a massive 16” gap to second placed rider, Roux (FDJ). Quinziato (BMC), Knees (Sky) and Pate (Sky) round out the top 5, 18”, 18” and 19” down on Phinney respectively.
In the U25 jersey, Janse Van Rensburg has an off day and stops the clock at 22” behind the stage winner which is enough to get him a disappointing eleventh. Despite this, his time bonus yesterday lifts him above the rider’s second-tenth on the day, meaning he sits second overall overnight. He will hope to keep that on tomorrow’s hills.
Phinney tops the overall provisionally, while as already mentioned Janse Van Rensburg is second, 10” down on the American. Dehaes is in third for Lotto thanks to his stage 1 win. The closest rider who will probably challenge tomorrow is Kiryienka in ninth overall, 20”behind.

Comments
Not the greatest time-trial from Reinardt, but he still holds a great GC placing. Not getting dropped on tomorrow's hill will be the key to success here or not.

Circuit Sarthe – Pays de la Loire Stage 4
Today is the tour’s final stage. It is hilly, so it will be interesting to see whether the time-triallers who moved up the GC yesterday can hold on today against the better puncheurs. The pre-stage favorites include Betancur (AG2R), Kiryienka (Sky) and Taaramae (Cofidis) who will be aiming to drop the sprinters and TT’ers. Our goal is for Janse Van Rensburg to hold on to his second overall.
165kms to go
The break is let go fairly quickly, despite its size. Seven men are in the group, but it includes no major threats. Probably the best hill rider in the group is Cherel (AG2R), while The closest on the GC is Lobato (Euskatel) at 37”. Currently, the gap is 3’20” back to the bunch.
15kms to go
But they never really get away and BMC haul back the group for race leader Phinney. Riders are attacking left right and center, but none have proved successful thus far. Janse Van Rensburg is holding well inside the peloton.
5kms to go
We are over the final climb, and Simon (Sojasun) and Kern (AG2R) have attacked. Both though are over 20” behind on GC, so they will have to hold a gap to the finish to overtake Phinney. BMC chase behind, but the gap is a large 28”.
2kms to go
The group still had 10”, until Janse Van Rensburg took it upon himself to shut down the duo’s gap by attacking. The group is all back together but the South African has no energy left. The group will finish together though so his job is done.
Finish
Betancur sprints to win for AG2R, powering away from the field in the last 250m. Sky’s Pate gets second, which is bad news for Janse Van Rensburg. The American’s bonus seconds move him up to second overall. Simon is third and rounds out the podium for Sojasun.
Phinney finishes safely in the group so he wins the GC, with Pate second after stealing 12 bonus seconds. Janse Van Rensburg earns a well-deserved third, which rounds out a good tour for him and the team.

Well, that probably went as well as possible for Reinardt. A good third place overall, which could have been second but we can't stop bonus seconds. A good start to the month.

Once again, Reinardt leads us here. After his good results in France he comes here in good form. He should be able to achieve a good result. Most of the favorites are cobblers, but I don’t think the small cobbled sections will make differences, leaving him as one of the top sprinters.
Jonathan and Fabio have also come with us to Germany to build up form for our WorldTour wildcards. They shouldn’t feature too much. Bert-Jan however could do something on the final hills, or even Tarik could get a high finish in a sprint. |
