Stage 8: Belfort -> Porrentruy
This medium mountain stage promises to be even more demanding as it will be short and difficult. The mere mention of these ascents, whose peaks crown the route in the Jura, illustrates how difficult it is: The Côte du passage de la Doulour, teh Colde La Croix, etc. This final ascent, about 20 kilometres from the finish will be a very decisive factor in the stage
Another day with much more climbing. With 7 cols it’s going to be a long and tough day.
stage favorites
***Damiano Cunego (Lampre-ISD)***
** Alejandro Valverde (Movistar Team)**
* Philippe Gilbert (BMC Racing Team)*
I must say it’s pretty nice starting in front of peleton in the white jersey
we tried to sent Roy in the break but it didn’t work as he was pulled back. The 3-man break ended up being Christophe Lé Mevel again (Garmin), Peter Sagan (Liquigas), Christophe Kern (Europcar). The max gap for the three was 3’22”. The first few climbs weren’t ridden at a too high pace so that I didn’t burn any energy. It wasn’t until the second to last climb (Côte de la Caquerelle) were things got interesting when Thomas Voeckler (Team Europcar) attacked
it resulted in the front group behind one straight line behind Voeckler
the pack completly broke up and I found myself in the third group with Sandy Casar and Nibali. with Nibali in the group we managed to close the gap from 40 seconds to 28 seconds to the leaders but up the climb Nibali left us behind while Casar and me were riding our own pace trying to recuperate
we waited on Menchov and together we rode to the group of Nibali which also contained Kloden, Monfort (RadioShack) and breakaway members Sagan and Kern. Nibali was the first of the group to reach the mountain top. He was followed by Kloden and with Monfort in my wheel (who didn’t do a thing because Kloden was in front) I chased after one of the best downhill riders today
however over the team radio I heared that Nibali has crashed in the desent. I was pretty surprised when I saw him getting on his bike.
Together with Nibali we rode to the finish and even caught up with Klöden, who we dropped shortly after along with Casar and Monfort. So it was only me and Nibali in chase of the next guy in front who was Gesink. We caught him with 400 meter to go so we had a three guy sprint for 11th place
Thomas Voeckler won another stage beating Cadel Evans in a sprint. Is there any stopping him?

Stage 10: Arc-et-Senans -> Besançon
It was natural to choose the <the City of time> to host a time trail of which the 38 km could carry a lot of weight at the end of the race. Besancon and it’s majestic citadel are linked to Arc-et-Senans, which is also e-listed Unesco World heritage aite. Thepeleton’s best flat recere will try to minimize their time in a prestigious setting
who’s thought that a time trail in the Tour was a good idea. Let’s get this over wite
***Tony Martin (Omega Pharma-Quickstep)***
** Fabian Cancellara (RadioShack-Nissan-Trek)**
* Bradley Wiggins (Sky Pro Cycling)*
I was not looking forward to this. Time trails are not my cup of tea and being followed Denis Menchov (Katusha) wasn’t a comforting thought. Especially after only 11 minutes he already overtook me
Things got even worse after 30 minutes when Peraud (AG2R La Mondiale) overtook me
When I finished I was 182th place but bound to lose even more places. A massive 7 minutes 7 seconds down on Tony Martin who won the stage. Tomorrow is the rest day and after today I need it.

Pinot is looking very comfortable in white.
In the game van Garderen is never a contender for white, because for some reason he can't work for Evans and focus on white, while Pinot is leader of the team. |

Stage 11: Mâcon -> Bellegarde-sur-Valserine
The rest day in Maçon will be necessary for the riders to attack this tenth, new and very promising stage. Before the descent to Bellegarde-sur-Valserine, the climbers who may have lost a few second in Doubs will have the opportunity to pull themselves together in the ascent leading to the summit of the Col du Grand Colombier. This is the first time that the peloton of the Tour de France has been there.
After the Jura Mountains we now hit the Alps. With the next three stages being hard ones. How did I get out of the rest day.
*** Andy Schleck (RadioShack – Nissan – Trek) ***
** Cadel Evans (BMC Racing Team) **
* Samuel Sánchez (Euskaltel – Euskadi) *
We already knew that the break of the day had a real chance of making it. so we had Fédrigo and Casar in the break. Along with them were Spilak (Katusha), Fuglsang (RadioShack), Westra (Vacansoleil), Di Gregorio (Cofidis), Marzano (Lampre), Porte (Sky), Vandevelde (Garmin), L.L.Sánchez (Rabobank), Charteau (Europcar), Gerrans, Albasini (GreenEDGE), Paulinho (Saxo), Huguet (Argos) with a max gap of 11 minutes. On the First of the two ending climbs I saw Voeckler in his mountain jersey getting to the front and know that he was going to attack.
And he did
I thought about going behind him but decided against it. Riding in my own pace up the climb was better in my opinion. But there wasn’t much riding my own pace as I kept being blocked in by Vanendert, Frank Schleck, Moncoutié and Le Mevel. And because of that I missed the chance to join the attackers and on the downhill section that followed the group I was in separated. Evans, Nibali, Valverde, Kloden, Wiggins and Basso rode away from us while Frank Schleck, Gadret, Rolland, Vanendert and Menchov. I couldn’t follow them while we caught up with Steven Kruijswijk (Rabobank) who lead Gesink into the attack.
However he was completely empty and on the last climb I thought that there wasn’t much to gain in chasing so I saved my energy for the days to come. But the stage isn’t over yet. With Fédrigo and Casar in the break that have been caught up with the attackers. But the attacks from the GC riders took too much energy from the guys and they couldn’t finish it with a top 10 placing. The victory was victory was for Robert Gesink (Rabobank). Seeing the gap to second place in the YC. I might go for stage wins now.

Up to 17th in the GC, that's not that bad
And Pinot is really, really steady in his white jersey.
Also, does Pinot have the 55 downhill stat he deserves?

@Jesleyh
this is 2012, there Thibaut didn't have this downhill problem back. he has 68 downhill. good thing that I suck at downhilling though
@Selwink
well you rise in the GC when others start to fall off.
@mvhoogdalem
screw that, I'll do exactly the opposite

Stage 12: Albertville -> Le Toussuire – Les Sybelles
Twenty years after the Winter Olympic Games, the riders will set off from Albertville for an alpine stage with
A really tough stage with a 3 climbs including two HC climbs and a 2 category climb and the endclimb. The question I had in mind. Am I going to follow to favorites to get butchered when they really start going or am I to make the break last until the finish.
*** Andy Schleck (RadioShack – Nissan – Trek) ***
** Cadel Evans (BMC Racing Team) **
* Samuel Sánchez (Euskaltel – Euskadi) *
That disicion was quickly made the moment I hear that Steven Kruijswijk attacked. Almost knowing that the break was going to last and him being a pre-race favorite for the YC I took no chances. I followed!
of course I was not alone in the break. Danielson, Le Mével (Garmin), Siutsou, Uran (Sky), Kruijswijk (Rabobank), Capecchi (Liquigas), Vogandy (Cofidis), Kern (Europcar), Weening (GreenEDGE), Lloyd (Lampre), Van de Walle, Lars Bak (Lotto), Vorganov (Katusha), Sprick (Argos). Since I was in the break I thought that I could pick up some mountain points. I did great at first mountain sprint by winning it.
On the descent nothing important happened. I did spot a nice house
Le Mevel beat me on the second climb and I was allowed to take the points without putting much effort.
Things got serious when we hit the final climb. We had a 10 minute gap to the peloton it was sure that the break would win the stage as there were only 17,5 km to go until the finish. But victory for me was unsure as Kruijswijk, Kern, the Sky duo (Uran and Siutsou) and the Garmin duo (Le Mével and Danielson) were pretty good climbers. Eventually only me, Kruijswijk, and the Sky’s in the front group.
but with the two Sky’s in the group, getting the win is going to be hard as Uran or Siutsou attacked after each other and the other didn’t need to chase. Victory was assured for Uran when he attacked and Kruijswijk said that he didn’t want to ride because Gesink was behind and Le Mevel because Hesjedal was behind (both on +8 minutes but that doesn’t matter to them ). he eventually won the stage by a minute as I got beaten by the other guys that have saved themselves for the sprint.
Le Mevel takes the polka dot jersey from Voeckler. Also I’m in the top 10 of the GC, 2nd in the KOM classification which I have a small eye on. As I can take points when Le Mevel is already dropped
