T'other British Cycling Team
Gaffeff
I've set up the French community database for the start of the Development squad career. I will do the Halfords series (or whatever it's called this year) as one off races when the UK db comes out. The French DB includes India (which is handy) but no names so have used the India test players names. Will let you know how it goes.

{And we're back}. Firstly a bit of unfinished business from last year.
As I mentioned, I will copy the reaction of Belkin to LL Sanchez.

"26/11/13 - The contract of Leon Leon Sanchez has been bought out allowing the rider to move freely to another team next year [p.s. this cost £500k!!]. Gaffeff made it clear that Luis had not been found guilty of anything, however with the rule changes on Doping, they could no longer take the risk of any rider linked so often. The whole team would like to wish Luis the best of luck for the future and believe he will get more more opportunities to show his true ability at another team. Charles Prenderghast will take Sanchez's place in the team."

{I don't know whats happening with Tiernan-Locke but under my stories rules, that will not count as happened during the time he was with my team and they are all good guys as soon as they join my team.}

{The first story I will cover in 2014 is the development squad. Hopefully then the Womens team (if a database becomes available), then the Worldtour team. The Development team will use the updated 2013 database, the Worldtour team will use the 2014 database when it comes out.
The development team will prioritise UK and Asian races.
The jersey is below.
During the Winter Robert Partridge raced in the cyclo cross championship for Yorkshire, so now counts as Yorkshire registered.]

The Yorkshire Development Squad took it's first win courtesy of their Owner, Coach and rider, or as he puts it "Occasional sleeper".

1st March 2014:
YDS 39th on CQ ranking, Best rider: Briggs (17th) on Continental.

Contracts: Dean Downing, David Clarke and Ben Day annouch their retirement. From 2015 they will act as Coaches/DS.

Robert Partridges contract is renewed and British Airways have asked for him to be added to the Biological Passport.

When asked in a press conference, Gaffeff advsed the renewal of Ian Wilkinsons contract was not a priority. "Although we believe Ian to be a very good rider we will be looking for other options next year. We are after all a development team, and from a funding perspective we could replace Ian with a number of up and coming riders".

14th May - Tour Series - Kirkaldy

Firstly Ryan Mullen has been added to the biological passport for British Airways, and as a minimum of 6 months is required before changing team, it is likely this will be the full set of riders available to be promoted this year. (I will handle wo goes up in the British Airways part of the Story).

1st Tour Series race of the year.
Squad:
Graham Briggs
Ian Wilkinson
Jonathan Bellis
Ben Day
Phillip Graves.

The tour series has changed it's points classification to make the team event closer. Team Classifications will be based on where the first three riders finish (if less than 3 riders finish on the same lap, then 0 points will be scored). These points will be totalled up at the end of the year.
The individual competition will be based solely on the number of stages won.

A 5 man breakaway went up the road including Philip Graves, however this was chased down by Optum and IG-Sport. Philip Graves tried to go it alone but was caught with 2 km to go. Eric Young lead out Ken Hanson (Optum p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies) to take the individual stage in the concluding bunch sprint. Graham Briggs came 6th.

Team:
Thomas Faiers
David Clarke

YDS really wanted this race and kept up a high pace. Only 31 riders finished. However they were left with only 3 riders when Mark Christian broke away with 10 km to go. YDS continued to keep the pace high but Mark Christian stayed away, When Faiers attacked he was unable to bridge the gap, holding on for a superb solo victory.

Team:
Thomas Faiers

A stage run in truly horrendous weather, only 18 riders endured. A large group containing Thomas Faiers got away, Optum put down a hugely fast pace and the rest of the peleton was not able to catch up in the foul conditions. In the end Optum lead out Chad Haga to take the stage out of the 13 man group. Thomas Faiers being the higest places rider for YDS in 12th.

Individual: Chad Haga (Optum p/b Kelly benefit strategies)

Pearl Izumi Tour Series Round 6 – Colchester (30/05/14)

Team:
Jonathan Bellis
Robert Partiridge
Ben Day
Ashely Wood
Nick Ryan

Nick Ryan and Ashley Wood put down a fast pace, until a major crash with 3 lap to go meant that only 13 riders finished. Ben Day finished last for YDS covered in blood, when asked how he felt "Oh don't worry, I don't think all of it's mine". The last few laps were spread out with small groups everywhere. Evan Oliphant (Raleigh) stayed ahead to finish 26 seconds ahead of Thomas Nankeris (Bissell Cycling).

Individual: Evan Oliphant (Team Raleigh)

Team:
Due to Ben Days heroics, Yorkshire Development squad was the only team to finish the race with 3 riders.
