Truly it was on hard I've played a lot with this team (see post #96)
EPObank because of their history ... maybe not what they are now |

I have a nice career going with FDJ. I'm on 1st of April and managed to win Paris - Nice with Pinot and Catalunya with Fedrigo after a succesful breakaway in stage 1. Other notable results are a stage win with Demare in Down Under, a 2nd place in G-W and 6th in Flanders with Ladagnous. I try and play mostly races in french circuit where i dominate, notching about 35 wins so far.
April continued in a succesful manner. We managed a 4th in Paris-Roubaix with Ladagnous while Fedrigo rode incredible in Ardennes finishing 3rd in Amstel, 6th in Fleche and 5th in Liege. Casar did a super ride in Giro, winning 4 stages along with the points and mountain jerseys. In preparation for TDF Pinot got 2nd place overall at the Dauphine along with 4 stage wins missing on the overall victory thanks to a crash on a flat stage wich cost him 1'30''. We really wanted to hold on the french national jersey but unfortunately we got a kick in the teeth from Voeckler.
Next is the Tour where i have a dillema. Demare will go for the points jersey but i'm not sure if i will try for GC with Pinot against a very strong oposition or for the mountain jersey along with a stage win. |

Man, I'm having a frustrating season with BMC.
Paris - Nice: 2nd with Van Garderen
Tirreno - Adriatico: 2nd with Evans
After also finishing 11th in Milan - San Remo, my sponsor happiness turned to orange... =( |

Oh god .... Worst stage ever. A stupid flat stage in the Giro with a couple of hills in the end (stage 13, first year). A couple of favourites attack with 30 kms to go, Betancur follows, Pozzo stays in the pack. But on the chase, he suddenly loses tons of energy and can't keep up... eventually he loses more than 4 minutes and drops from fourth to 13th overall. So pissed right now! At least Betancur is in white again because Tejay lost time as well... still. It was looking so good!

After the aforementioned amazing Giro, my Tour with Astana went dramatically. Guardini failing miserably (0 podium spots) and some stupid race tactics making Brajkovic lose 6 minutes on Mont Ventoux, so he only ended 11th in the GC, after comfortably sitting in 7th place. On top of that, Fuglsang sucked until the last time trial and became 20th. Just painful.
However, the team is bouncing back nicely with a TTT victory in the Vuelta and Nibali in the leader's jersey right before the first mountain stage. His main rivals will be Contador, Henao, Moreno and Valverde, judging by the hilly stages so far. San Sebastian went well too (Gasparotto 3rd) and we did a fantastic tactical ride in Hamburg, making Gavazzi win before Gasparotto and Boonen
Transfers have been done too: Seeldraeyers, Kangert, Tiralongo & Huffman are out; Sagan, Samoilau, König, Bazhkou (talented Belarussian puncher) and Chelyakov (mediocre cobble talent from Kazachstan) are in. Normally, I'm not a fan of high profile transfers, but Sagan fills a huge gap for MSR and the cobbled classics, while I'm majorly dissatisfied with Guardini as a sprinter, so something needed to be done. For the future, I will try to build my team around Sagan, Aru & Lutsenko. |

The Tour was quite an epic battle, by the way. Froome peaked early and took 2 minutes on Contador, but on the final mountain stages, Contador got closer and closer. Eventually, Contador managed to get the lead and defend it with a 10 second gap in Paris |

Well. Giro ended kind of conciliatory. Pozzo continued to lost time but went into a long break on the last mountain stage, winning it and vaulting him back at least into 10th, and also giving the lead in the KoM.
Wiggins won easily in front of Hesjedal and Sanchez, Nibali only fifth after losing some 8 minutes on a mountain stage.
So conclusion: 10th overall is not what I hoped for. KoM is a decent consolation price as well as the stage win. Also, we have assembled a second place (Beletti) and two third and fourth places (Hutarovich and Pozzovivo). Not the best race, but a decent one.

I had the exact same thing in my Sky career...
Please tell me Scarponi was 4th!

Haha, exactly
Danielson, Gesink, Basso, Intxausti and then Pozzo followed. Nibali was in the lead for a long time, then lost it to Wiggins in the MTT, but he was only six seconds behind before that mountain stage.

Top5 exactly the same... awesome!
Nibbles lost 7'50 on the Galibier for me.
Was rather different behind from yours though... but close enough

In my career Hesjedal was winning the Giro from Stage 2, then randomly on one stage (think it was 16 or 17) he finished 14mins back, and still ended up 4th 6mins behind
I was NetApp btw.

A strange thing happened at the Giro in my career too. After crushing the oposition in the first time trial and leading the general clasification, Wiggins lost almost 3 minutes in the mountain time trial finishing 4th overall. |

Wiggins wasn't very lucky in my career either: crashed out of the Giro right before the time trial, recovered in time for the Tour and crashed out again. That's some tough luck...
Anyway, I'm done with my first Astana season now. Gasparotto took the win in Plouay and Ponzi & Iglinskiy scored podium places in Canada, while Nibali beat Contador in a tough battle for the Vuelta win.
However, the highlight of the season is definitely Iglinskiy's victory in the World Championships! It was an amazing race with many attacks from guys like Nibali, Gilbert and Contador, but eventually Iglinskiy (daily form of +5) was the strongest and held off a small group of favourites for a solo win. Too bad that he cannot show his national jersey now though
Obviously, the world champion was aiming for the win in Lombardia too, but bad positioning got him in the wrong group and it took quite some effort to get back. Then Aru did an amazing job tearing the peloton down to 20 riders, but eventually Iglinskiy did not have the strength to attack and ended 4th in a sprint surprisingly won by Damiano Caruso. Iglinskiy took his revenge by winning the Tour of Beijing though, where Guardini also finally scored his only season win.
Really looking forward to the next season now, where Giro/Vuelta winner Nibali will go for the yellow jersey in Paris, Sagan will target Milan-Sanremo and the cobbled classics and the duo Gasparotto/Iglinskiy will once again aim for the hilly classics. Hopefully, we can defend the rainbow jersey in september too, that would be amazing.

September - Gesink wins the bergamasca stage race and gets 2nd in Giro di padania
Gp de Montreal - 1st with Nuyens

Thats it. sorry if it was boring to read everything but I got the overall at T-A, the three GT: s, daupihne libere, tour de suisse and eneco tour in the world tour. my next season will be quite similar, but now I have sep van marcke and he´s a better sprinter than nuyens and a better P-R rider. And I also proved that it was possible to win the Tour-vuelta double and still win a lot of other races. Keep in mind that contador is the best climber in my DB as well. |
