Milano - Sanremo
Profile
Welcome to the first big classic of the season. The route is 299 kilometers long and it's the longest race in the whole year. We have 176 riders on the start and team with their best sprinters and puncheurs.
There are 11 riders in the breakaway: Ferrari (Androni), Kiserlovski (Astana), Nizzolo (Leopard), Laborie (Saur), Wiggins (Sky), Cimolai (Liquigas), Kwiatkowski (Pepsi), Bellis (Saxo Bank), Passeron (Cofidis), Dehaes (Omega) and Moreni (Geox).
HTC and Lampre are working up front. The pace is high and the breakaway will be chased for sure.
60kms to go, Terpstra (Quick - Step) attacks from the peleton. This could be preperation for Boonen's attack.
50kms to go, the break seems to be chased. Kiserlovski (Astana) is trying to attack, but he is running for 200 kilometers, so he doesn't have enough energy.
40kms to go, the serious attack from the peleton: Westra (Vacansoleil), Flecha (Sky) and Cancellara (Leopard).
The peleton has to chase them, because riders up front are really dangerous.
They have been chased, but up the Cipressa there is an another attack. This time there are: Cancellara, Flecha, Gilbert (Omega) and Boonen.
They had almost a minute gap, but up the Poggio, the group of the favourites is really close.
5kms to go, the group is together again. Langeveld did a great job for Breschel and he is in good position now.
Last kilometer, Pozzato (Katusha) surprised everyone and jumped from the last position, Van Avermaet (BMC) is trying to follow him.
But Filippo Pozzato is too strong today and he wins the first monument of the season! There is a huge battle for the second position behind him.
Breschel lost the battle for 2nd place with Van Avermaet, but it was very close. Hushovd and Haussler out of the podium.

Great race report! Good 3rd place by Breschel, looking good for the cobbles. Btw, what the flip is Wiggins doing in a breakaway? |

@YvesStevens: Thanks
@Neillster: Thanks. Wiggins shows himself in the front very often this year
@sutty68: Thanks, but it could be better. I didn't want to start too early and I started too late
Well, I felt a bit too optimistic about extreme level, because I totally suck in mountain stages and I will stick to hard for this season. Maybe, I'll get some more skills and then switch to extreme.

I have bad news for you. I won't have time to play in May, because I have too much work to do, so I think Milan - San Remo was the last report in this story. Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did and I will come back with another story with PCM12 |
