They all hit their limit when Wiggins attacked. After that, there was nothing left.
Wiggins didn't attack so much as ride slightly faster. He is such a boring climber to watch.
It's more uphill time trialling than climbing and I'm a fan (mainly because having a genuine GC contender that's English is such a huge novelty). I'm sure he would trade a bit of grind for explosivity but what can you do? You've got to work with what you've got |

Quite impressed with Wiggins today. Not his type of climb and everyone expected Vavlerde to gain 10 - 15 secs today on Wiggo. Great ride by him. With a win or podium in a TT he might even win Points Jersey too, you don't see that happening often with Wiggo Except that he's now going to lose Paris Nice to Westra in the Col d'Eze ITT
Poor Wiggo. |

What the hell? Westra? For real? This is.. this is... No, this just CAN'T be. Wow.
Really surprising performance by Westra. I'm still in shock. Good to see Valverde is back to his old self of wheelsucking then sprinting for the bonus time, though.

Thinking that Westra is going to win the Paris-Nice by beating Wiggins on his home turf (a timetrial) is a bit optimistic don't you think? |

TTs are Westra's home turf as well.

Wiggins helmet really annoys me. The other Sky helmets look fine, but the solid white just looks bad for some reason.
Great ride by Westra too! He is a darkhorse, but thinking about it, this race suits him pretty well.

Didn't know Westra could climb this well. |

Neither did anyone else. Except maybe Hilaire vd Schueren. He said yesterday that Westra can climb as well as Wiggins.
On the dutch cycling discussion page (wielrennen.prikpagina.nl) nearly everyone didn't take that seriously and laughed at vd schueren, including me.
But appearently, he can climb as well as Wiggins...
Then I did some researching and it seems he moved to spain this winter and lost 4kg. Westra only weights 68kg instead of 72kg and did a lot of specific mountain training. Could be a new transformation like Wiggins... |

1) Westra is a TT specialist himself
2) It's not a normal ITT, it's a MTT (mountain time trial). Good luck to Wiggins trying to hold off Westra in this form. |

Or could be the influence of his team? Maybe he's been told he's now the leader of the team, rather than just a TTer, and so has the FULL support of his teams resources.

No, he actually lost 4kg this winter and did a lot of mountain training. He said so in an interview after the race today. |

Just like you've jumped on your new national extreme pumped up bias on a rider who's performing well, it's angered me enough to make random accusations against his performance.
One day Ruben, you will learn not to try to shove your Nations riders' performances down our throats.

1) He's not as good a time trialist as Wiggins.
2) Wiggins is obviously in equally good form judging from the opening TT. |

I'm sorry rjc_43, but you're making accusations (against Westra) that are completely without any reason. I know I like his achievement, as I am DUtch as well, and I'm very, very surprised, but can't we say the same about Gianni Meersman, winning a stage (and one in Algarve)?
What I like about cycling is that sime results are very surprising, and today's performance by Westra was one of those. I really hope he can hang on to the top 3 in the GC, as he fully deserves it. He's an attacking rider, and when necessary completely focusses on helping a team leader (for sprint, hilly etc).
You're accusations make me think of dope, and I;'m not happy about that! Comments like these, just as sortwise press releases, are a stab in the back for cycling!

I know. As I said, Ruben's acclimation of Westra's new found ability to beat Wiggins in a time trial angered me. A lot. I hope and trust that Westra is clean. But the team he's on, and previous past experience since I've been following cycling doesn't normally amount to what Westra has done in this years Paris Nice.
It's not even like Ruben will still post on here when Westra doesn't beat Wiggins. Or even if his comment was a jokey one. Or even hopeful.
