For our next race, we return to Italy, for one day anyway. The Giro dell'Appennino is a hilly/mountain classic in the Appennine Mountains. It will again be a race for the punchier climbers with a strong finish. Last year's winner was Cunego, but he won't be defending his crown. Other recent winners include Nibali, Nocentini and our very own Kiserlovski. Robert isn't in our team here though, with Grega Bole and Simon Spilak being joint leaders, depending on how the race goes. We hope Bole will be able to get over the tough climbs but if not, Spilak will go for it himself.

As usual in these smaller one day races, every man and his dog tried to get into the early break. It looked like this group had succeeded but more attackers marked the end of it.
Eventually, a group of eight riders got away, including our breakaway specialist, Stybar. He was easily the best rider in the grou, so put in a lot of work to ensure that the group built up a big lead.
Three more riders, Cusin, Sprick and Declercq, tried to bridge the gap. But only two of them made it, as the Topsport rider, Declercq, was dropped and never made it across.
Cusin and Sprick immediately lifted the pace as they hit the biggest climb of the day. Only Stybar could go with them, but the Czech rider wasn't able to contribute to the pace as he was hanging on.
After this monster climb, the peloton had been reduced from 145 riders to a remarkable 12! Bole and Spilak were in there for us, but even Grega had struggled with Liquigas' ferocious pace.
With 20km to go, the front three still had two minutes on the 'peloton', which was still 12 strong. We knew we were guaranteed three riders in the top 15 at the very least the way the race was.
But a few attacks from Rebellin, Callegarin and Agostini ensured that the front three were caught with just over 10km to go. At the front, Rebellin tries another unsuccessful attack, whilst Bole sits near the back of the group.
Into the final few kilometres, and Bole and Spilak both went solo. Grega was on Dall'Antonia's wheel, while Simon was sitting behind Zaballa. Stybar had done a magnificent job today and was just cruising in for a superb 15th. Just a short ramp up to the finish line awaited the riders now.
Zaballa's wheel was the right one to be on today, but Spilak just couldn't come round him and had to settle for following him to second place. The Miche rider took a great win, with Dall'Antonia rounding out the podium. Bole finished seventh with not a lot left in his legs.

Oh so close to a victory today, with Spilak being in the perfect position, but not quite being quick enough to beat Zaballa. Bole was also in a good position, but the climbs just took too much out of him, so a top ten is the best he could achieve. However, Stybar was probably the rider of the day today, hanging on to the back of two superior climbers, who were also fresher, all day, and then being able to look after the other two riders after he had been caught, and still picking up a top 15. Great ride by the Czech.

Skoda - Orlen Professional Cycling Team are pleased to announce that our wildcard for the Tour de Romandie has been accepted. This means that the team will be heading to Switzerland instead of Turkey at the end of this month. It will be a massive race for us as it will be the last chance for us to prepare and build fitness for our first grand tour in May, the Giro d'Italia.

Our next race is the Vuelta a Castilla y Leon in Spain. It is a five-stage race, which consists of three flat stages, one short time trial and one summit finish. Previous winners include Alberto Contador (three times), Leipheimer, Vinokourov and, last year, it was the final victory for the late Xavi Tondo, which will make this race quite an emotional one. This should be a complete one horse race as Igor Anton has rocked up here with absolutely no rivals. We will be trying to place Velits or Kocjan high up on GC as well as trying to get Kocjan a stage win, whilst Kiserlovski and Huzarski will be doing all they can to help. Velits starts his Giro preparation here and therefore, hasn't got great shape yet. We'll see what happens.

This stage should end in a sprint, but with a steep climb to be tackled three times, it will be difficult to control the race, and it may be a breakaway or even a late attack that stays away.
After lots of attempts, a 13 man group eventually made it away from the peloton. The biggest names in there were Forero, van Vooren, Mironov and Selander. They pulled out a maximum of seven and a half minutes on the peloton.
As the peloton hit the climb for the first time, it was us doing most of the work, with a bit of help from Euskaltel, Saxo Bank and NetApp. The gap was coming down, but not quickly enough. It was going to be close for the escapees.
Sure enough, the breakaway, reduced to 12 after Cano was dropped, started the final descent with over a minute's advantage. Euskaltel were trying everything, but it would be a breakaway success today. Even Anton did some pulls on the front!
It was the Belgian, Steven van Vooren, who took the victory, ahead of Mironov and Mas. The sprint for 13th was won by Perez just ahead of Kocjan. Despite the peloton being very strung out and a few gaps appearing, everyone got the same time as Perez.

The one time we don't put a man in the break, it succeeds. Surprise, surprise! Oh well, Kocjan showed his good shape by almost winning the bunch sprint, but unfortunately, you don't get much for 14th. Tomorrow, we will DEFINITELY be putting somebody in the breakaway!
This is a long stage and again there are also a few hills in it, so this is a stage for the tougher sprinters. Kocjan should be able to cope with the demands of the stage easily. Can he get the result we want?
Again, everybody wanted to get into the break, but after a group of 18 riders had been brought back, the BotD formed. It was a massive group, 2 riders! Kozubek for us and Lechuga (Andalucia).
These two built up a lead of six minutes with 90km to go, but with it just being two riders, RusVelo could control it easily, with just two of them riding on the front for the whole stage.
As Saxo and Euskaltel again joined in with the chase at the head of the peloton, the gap was tumbling. We told Kozubek to stop working with Lechuga because it had no chance of staying away, but he was still absolutely shattered at the end of the day.
And with 11km to go, it was all back together as a couple of late attackers were brought back as well as Lechuga. It would be a bunch sprint today. We gave Huzarski the job of leading out Kocjan.
YES! Kocjan was way too good for all the other sprinters and clinched an emphatic victory ahead of Vachon and JJ Haedo. Peter Velits managed to claim 12th aswell on a great day for the team.

A win at last. It's our first win since way back on the first stage of Settimana Coppi e Bartali, so it was definitely about time. Jure is in stunning form right now, and all we had to do was get him near the front in the last kilometre, and he was always going to do the business from there. Into the hills tomorrow for a summit finish. Let's hope Velits can do the job, or, who knows with the form he's in, maybe Kocjan can get up there.

This is the only properly decisive stage in this race with two long climbs to be tackled including a tough uphill finish. We have two riders to look after here with both Velits and Kocjan hopefully being able to challenge.
Eight riders were allowed to escape the peloton at the start of the day, the biggest name being Champion (Bretagne). This group pulled out a gap of five minutes by the foot of the first climb.
Three more riders attacked just before the climb. Garcia and Gomez (Caja Rural) and Pinto (LA - Antarte) easily rode across and started to drop the other riders one by one on the steep climb.
Klimov was keeping the pace very high for his team mate Mironov, the yellow jersey wearer. This was causing problems for everyone and soon riders were being shelled out the back. The gap to the front three was doen to just 1:30 at the top.
The peloton had been reduced to just 18 riders after this climb, with RusVelo's high pace backfiring in a big way as Mironov was way out the back. Kocjan, Velits and Kiserlovski were still in this group.
On the final climb, Garcia left his breakaway counterparts behind, but he was soon joined by Anton, who, as everyone had expected, had no rivals today, and soon left Garcia way behind.
Kocjan was now riding solo to try to catch up as he had missed the key attack. Velits and Kiserlovski are just not fit enough at this point and couldn't keep up. Blanco and Efimkin were trying in vain to go after Anton up ahead.
Anton took an easy win whilst Blanco beat Efimkin to second. Kocjan was eighth with Velits and Kiserlovski tenth and eleventh. Kocjan moves up to fourth on the GC aswell. A pretty good result.

The stage result screwed up when I exported it for some reason. The others were fine, but the stage result was very, very wrong.

A decent result today, we can't complain. Kocjan is now fourth on GC, which he should be able to keep on tomorrow's time trial, whilst Velits and Kiserlovski did alright considering their low fitness. Nobody had a chance to beat Anton, or even get anywhere near him. Hopefully Velits can go better tomorrow.

Just a little back story, the first time I played stage 2, Kocjan won but the game crashed as the last rider crossed the line
Next time, Kocjan was +5 on the day. Perfect leadout, 3km to go, the computer turns itself off
Then, finally he wins again on the third attempt and the game doesn't crash.
It can be a bit frustrating at times.

This short time trial won't make any major differences on the GC, but it should enable Kocjan to get a bit closer to Efimkin in third place. Plus, of course, a chance for another stage win, though unlikely.
The first competitive rider was Kozubek, who set a time of 14'57, which would not be the quickest time for very long.
Filipe Cardoso was the first of the stage favourites on the course and he beat Kozubek by 2 seconds not long after.
RusVelo lost the lead of the race yesterday so they were in a fighting mood today. Trussov went quickest by 5 seconds when he crossed the line.
Steve Cozza (NetApp) then pipped Trussov by one second as the times really started to tumble.
But when it came to times tumbling, Alexei Markov was the master as he smashed Cozza by 14 seconds! A sensational time that would be hard to beat.
But one of the favourites, Cornu (Topsport) did eventually beat this by four seconds. It looked like a second victory for the Belgian team here in Spain.
Peter Velits started well, but his lack of fitness saw him fade to fourth, eight seconds down.
Kocjan zoomed round the course in an astonishing time, just three seconds down on Cornu in second place. He really is in good form.
Result
Stage results didn't export correctly again. It's only this race though oddly.

Team Summary
Another good day for the team, second and fifth on the stage, Kocjan moving right up behind Efimkin in the battle for third and also claiming the points jersey, which he should be able to take home with him. One more stage to go, let's get that podium place.

This final stage is the easiest of the four proper stages here. Kocjan needs at least second in the sprint finish to clinch third spot overall. The whole team will be devoted to this aim today, even Velits.
After an early breakaway had been thwarted, two riders attacked, Mas and K. Jorgensen. We immediately sent Chuzhda after them, tasked with ruining any chance this breakaway had of succeeding.
A bit later, the three were joined by Stachowiak, and the four built up a six minute lead, Chuzhda was doing minimal work, whilst also sprinting for the intermediate sprints to try and disrupt the pace. Safe to say, he wasn't making many friends in the break!
Down the road, RusVelo were helping us pull the break back and the gap was coming down very quickly. The lack of any Saxo Bank support suggested they weren't particularly confident about Haedo.
With the break safely caught, Chuzhda still had enough energy left to pull the leadout train, with Kocjan, of course, placed at the back of it. It really did look like Kocjan vs Markov at this point.
Unfortunately, Kocjan got momentarily blocked by Vachon as he launched his sprint, and this was enough to give Markov the win by a wheel. Frustrating, but Kocjan moves on to the podium here. Great performance all week.

Team Summary
This has been a fantastic race for us, with a stage win, two stage podiums, third on GC and the green jersey. Kocjan has been sensational all week, and it's a shame that the breakaway survived on the first stage, and that Anton was here when he clearly didn't need to be. Velits and Kiserlovski built up their fitness and will continue their preparations for the Giro next week in Switzerland at our first ever WorldTour race. We are really looking forward to it, I hope you are too.
The team will now be taking part in our first ever cobbled race now, the Tro-Bro Léon in Brittany, France. Even though the race has numerous sections of pavé, the final kilometres are flat and tarmac, so it should be a bunch sprint. Recent winners have included Dumoulin (twice), Said Haddou (twice), Renshaw and Jeremy Roy. We have brought our best seven riders for the cobbles, and we'll be hoping to set Bole up for the final sprint, but Bozic and Hutarovich are also capable of delivering at the finish.
