End of an era.
if this is correct, it's a sad day. I liked the team philosophy.

Shit. If there's one team in the current trend of pseudo-national teams I like it's Euskaltel. It'll be sad to see that team lose its identity, but I guess it was unsustainable in the WT era. Really sad news.

Vuelta al Algarve
Really...?
Anyway, interesting calendar. Would be great to see a good performance from him in Italy.
Well obviously its Volta ao Algarve, but I was in a hurry writing
Yea, Siutsou is designated leader for Sky at Giro, but you never know so Henao might be a co leader. Should be great watching him. Also Sky is going for stage hunting in Giro, so expect Henao not going for GC rather than stages/ KoM. They also likely to bring Appollonio, Cavedish and Swift from what it looks so far, along Thomas. Dowsett likely to debut too, so the train will look great
I'm not mad though, just tired of seeing our races being referred as Vueltas.
Sad news about Euskaltel, was one of the teams I really liked for their rider choices. :/ |

Came here to post just that.
It's big news, but I prefer the team this way. I've always though regionalism and nationalism are stupid.

Yep, that's a big shame, especially with the wealth of talent the Basque country is producing right now.
I've always really liked Euskaltel, I guess because they are so different from all the other top teams. Antón's win in Bilbao last year ranks as one of my personal favourite cycling moments. |

Well, I guess "cutting the ties" won't mean to abandon the Basque Country. I guess they'll still focus on that region. It just won't be exclusive anymore. On the one hand, that sure is another tradition falling apart but imho, it could also have its upsides. I mean, wouldn't it be even worse for cycling in the Basque country if Euskaltel lost its WT-spot sometime in the future because of the strict focus? Plus, the local talents could benefit from riding with experienced foreign riders. Just some thoughts.

Well, I really hope Euskaltel will at least signing only Spanish riders. I would really hate to see for example Roger Hammond (I have nothing againgst him!) in their orange jersey..

Agreed on the nationalism thing (I'd add harmful as well), but I'm not so sure I prefer the team this way. Their philosophy made the team unique, special. It was easy to feel empathy for them. Now they are just a team like the rest.

About one fourth of the Basque Country is actually in France, hence Romain Sicard, Pierre Cazaux being at Euskaltel, for example. |

I guess so. And with external funding they can probably hang onto their better riders like they were unable to do with Castroviejo. |

At least this will make PCM a bit more realistic with transfers, right.
I don't think the team will change much. They'll only sign a couple of non-basque riders, it's not like they're going to become a whole different team.
I do hope their jersey doesn't change too much.

Anybody that missed or couldn't watch OPQS presentation, it's on their website now.
Quite nice presentation, miles better than RSNT one. Love the Chavanel - Pineau combo in their room, hilarious at times
The beginning is in Belgian, but later it's full English, rider's innterviews with almost all the riders in English too etc.
