Paris-Nice Stage 5
The fifth stage of the paris-nice is one of the big deciders in the tour, with a sharp hill shortly before the finish giving Puncheurs a chance to break away to victory. The board decided that the team should relax today, rather than trying to take on the worlds best, and instead of the usual photo report our journalists provide, today we have a slightly different way of showing you the important sections of the race.
Before we go to the TV highlights, We must first tell you about the earlier sections of the race, with a large 16man breakaway leaving the main group early on, there were fights at every sprint, with Voigt collecting 27 points in the KOM classification, this brings him to level with Alexander Lens in the competition, a likely fight on the final day of the Paris-Nice, on order to determine the eventual victor of the contest...
The sad news of the day is Jey-Cy Cavendickx arriving over 5minutes behind the leaders, putting himself thoroughly out of contention for a top ten finish, but with a 27km TT tomorrow, could Kardo Boss prove to be the big surprise and pull himself up the rankings? a strong TTer, and only 2minutes behind, anything is possible as we head to tomorrow.

Paris-Nice Stage 6 27.0km ITT
Todays stage, is a Time-Trial between Rognes, and Aix-en-Provence. The race starts down a mild descent, and finishes with a sharp climb which may take the stage away from the Pure TTers, in favour of a more all around rider.
Todays favourites are Fabian Cancellara, Kardo Boss, or David Millar, out of contention for the GC thanks to his crash on stage one, but a strong Time Trialer who will be looking to recover what he can from the race.
First of the strong contenders to set off, was David Millar, poorly placed thanks to the crash, but flying through the first checkpoint, 50seconds in front of Lars Booms time, and setting a pace of 38'40, which seemed for a long time to be good enough.
Spoiler
Next up came Kando Boss, who set out to try and take Millars spot, though sadly, the hill at the end proved to much for him, Millars time was looking better every time another rider passed through checkpoint 1, with even Kando Boss unable to get with in 30" of him, Kando still performed reasonably though, and finished with a top ten time of 39'15"
Spoiler
Big favourite of the day, and current World ITT champion, Cancellara set off at a phenomenal pace, smashing the intermediate time by 40" and continuing to increase his lead up the hill, his time was 37'35" knocking millar off the top spot, though with some strong GC riders to come, would this time be enough to secure the stage win, and only 21" back on the lead, possibly also the Yellow jersey?
Spoiler
The final 3 riders were Vinokourov, Hesjedal, and Kreuziger, all strong climbers and TT riders, they were all also able to beat Millars time, though unable to match Cancellara, who finished the day with the stage win, 2nd place Vinokourov finished 35" behing the Swiss TTer, meaning that he takes the leaders jersey from the Astana veteran, with 2 potentially decisive stages left to go.

Paris-Nice Stage 7
The penultimate stage of the Paris-Nice, is the longest day of the tour, with the ascent of the Col du Ferrier positioned roughly half way along the route, it may give one of the stronger puncheurs a chance to escape the group, but a bunch finish seems more likely due to the profile from the end of the climb onwards being so flat...
More likely is that some key sprinters get dropped on the climb, meaning that the finish will be contested by some unusual names, less strong in the sprint than the standard riders, but more efficient in the hills meaning they can hold onto the pack until the finish line.
The day set up in a boring fashion, Leopard Trek, defending the leaders jersey set up at the front of the peloton, using the Schleck brothers, Jens Voigt, and Brice Feillu, between them stopping any breaks escaping for more than a few kilometres.
Spoiler
At the KOM checkpoints, Alexander Lens attacked, not able to escape for long on any occasion, but on the Col du Ferrier, and earlier the Cote du Tuilelléres collecting enough 27points meaning he has a strong chance of claiming the overall KOM competition at the end of the 8day race.
Spoiler
As the group climbed the Col, the high pace set by the Leopard squad, meant many riders couldn't keep up, and around 45riders were dropped, including TYT rider Alex Zhou. the groups fell away in 3's and 4's all re-grouping behind the lead pack, pulling in behind the pack.
Spoiler
As the riders entered the final lap of the finish loop, a massive pack occurred at the back of the pack, taking with it, many leadout men, and Europcar sprinter Thurgot, Alexander Lens and Timo Bern were slowed by the crash, though avoided a fall, and were able to re-join the pack without major mis-hap.
Spoiler
As the riders were about to enter the final straight, Roman Kreuziger attacked, and was able to hold off the chasing pack to the line, with Cancellara coming in 4th to maintain his grip on the Yellow before tomorrow, the final stage of the tour.
Spoiler
The Youtube-Twitter board were more than satisfied with todays performance, Pye taking a top 10 place in the sprint finish, and Alexander Lens seems to have done enough to secure the KOM jersey in our UWT debut. the team are hopeful of a strong finish tomorrow, in the short stage leading into Nice.
Apologies guys, but whilst i was taking my screenshots, PCM crashed, and when i re-booted it, the stage data had been saved, but obviously i couldn't take any more images, as a result, we have a couple of early screenshots, and one of the stage winner, but none of the final jersey presentations, or the main section of the race, from after halfway through...
Paris-Nice Stage 8
The final stage of the Paris-Nice is one for the puncheurs or early breakaway, with several hills late on, making it hard for the pack to stick with the most determined riders.
Early on 4riders attacked and formed a breakaway group up front, steadily pulling away from the pack, on there 3rd attempt, and building up a steady lead on the chasing group, the riders were Tejay Van Garderen, Taylor Phinney, Russell Downing, and Michael Matthews.
Spoiler
On the third climb of the day, Alexander Lens attacked, in order to protect his KOM jersey, he joined the front group towards the top of the climb, where they held a lead of 4'27" over the rear group, and they were still adding to the lead, with most teams appearing uninterested in the chase of the group, with only Lens positioned close to the GC. On the descent, David Millar also joined the front group, having attacked after Lens on the climb.
Spoiler
As the riders entered the 4th climb the day had on offer, Millar and Lens, dropped there breakaway companions, the gap had opened enough to offer a chance at the stage win, and the two fighters were not going to have that taken from them by there weaker companions.
Gilbert, and the GC group attacked on the final climb, but it was clear that today they would not be taking the stage win, the 2 breakaway companions began the final descent with over 2 minutes on the clock, and as they dropped towards the finish line, Lens took a risk, and jumped away from Millar, hanging on to the stage win, 1'09" on front of the chasing pack.
Spoiler
This breakaway victory means the Youtube Twitter teams 3rd stage win in the Paris-Nice, an excellent result for the side, who had arrived in Paris to begin the Tour, with there intention set on stages, rather than jerseys.
Final Results General Classification
Fabian Cancellara's Time Trial in stage 6, proved to be enough to take the overall classification in the Paris-Nice, the Swiss born rider pushed hard, and set a time far quicker than the competition, which he then followed up with high place group finishes in every other stage to claim the overall victory.
He was helped in stage 3, when a crash in the peloton, damaged the chances of many GC riders, including Team mates the Schleck brothers, Ivan Basso, and several other key names.
Spoiler
Points Classification
The points classification was wrapped up by the end of day 4, with Tom Boonen of Quick-step doing enough in the sprint finishes to take the jersey out of the reach of the competition, hard work from his team mates set him up in a strong position on each day, and Boonen replied, taking 2stage wins, and 2podium finishes over days 1-4.
Spoiler
King Of The Mountains Alexander Lens takes the KOM jersey, thanks to repeated attacks early in the day, and some good fitness and form, this is our first ever UWT jersey, and a real prize for the team! so congratulations to Alex for the efforts during this week, we hope to collect a few more before the season draws to a close.
Spoiler
Under 25's Classification
The -25's jersey was claimed by Astana puncheur Roman Kreuziger, the Czech rider worked hard protecting his leader Vinokourov as they attacked together, late in multiple stages, and had it not been for the TT stage, may well have threatened for the overall classifiation as well!
as it is, he can take home the -25 jersey in this, his penultimate year where he can compete in this event, showing just how strong he is, and perhaps a few years down the line, he will make a more dangerous attack on the final GC.
Spoiler
DS's Verdict
What a fantastic debut! Alexander Lens wins my Rider of the Tour reward, thanks to his 2stage wins, and claiming the overall KOM jersey, a fantastic result for the squad as a whole. The team worked exceptionally over the past 8days, not only competing with some of the strongest riders the world has to offer, but also showing the world we can compete, even at this high high level, I look forward to seeing you all at our next race, the much coveted Milan-San Remo, but for now, Au revoir, and congratulations once again to Alexander Lens!
Milan-San Remo
Today took the Team Youtube Twitter squad to Italy, for the longest one day race in the UWT calendar, riding the well-trodden course from Milan, to San-Remo 298km away.
The course has provided many a show for the spectators, whether it be on in the initial ascent, on the Paso Del Turchino, or on the steeper climb of Le Manie, before the final battle which would surely be fought on the slopes of the Poggio, and shortly beforehand, the famous Cipressa.
Team Youtube Twitter sent a strong squad to support Jey-Cy Cavendickx, or should the race end in a similar fashion to 2009, Peter Pal, who was named as sprinter for todays race.
As the riders set off, a 10man breakaway group set off in front, working together to put distance between themselves and the pack, Youtube Twitter decided to not send a man out into the front group, as it was relatively weak compared to the competition, and we felt it wise to protect the strength of our team, in order to pick up speed later in the day.
Spoiler
As the main group arrived at the summit of the Paso del Turchino, they were over 5minutes behind the group in front, and HTC, along with Lampre started to draw there riders forwards and peg the breaks distance at around 4'30" ahead, joining them up front was Bassie Adriaan, helping to reel in the lead men.
Spoiler
The group split in two for the second time of the climb of Le Manie, fortunately, having seen the opening developing, TYT made sure to have all there riders in front of the rift, and as such, as we began the descent, the Team were safely positioned in the main group with the race favourites.
Spoiler
As the descent was drawing to a finale, disaster struck for CSC Saxobank, with there Punchy rider, Nicki Sorensen fell, and put himself thoroughly out of contention for the race, though fortunately not bringing down any other riders along with him.
Spoiler
It was whilst the leading group climbed the Cipressa, that the breakaway riders were caught, and with the gap back to the chasing pack no over 2minutes, and the favourites all present, including 5 TYT riders, Chen, Pal, Cavendickx, Il Cassano, and Adriaan!
Spoiler
On the descent of the Cipressa, the race was changed, both for TYT, and also for Omega Pharma Lotto, two riders crashed out, Youtube lost Bassie Adriaan, the veteran climber, who was sadly forced to withdraw due to injury, but the big name to fall, was race favourite, Philippe Gilbert, who many had tipped as the eventual race winner!
Spoiler
On the final short climb of the day, another race favourite made there move, Fabian Cancellara attacked along with Allesandro Ballan, and Eric Chen, moving away from the leaders and taking a small lead into the final straight thanks to there late attack.
Spoiler
The finish line was in sight, and so were the 3front runners, the sprinters launched as one, catching Chen and Ballan, but not the recent Paris-Nice winner, who was able to claim his second UWT victory here in the Milan-San Remo, an excellent achievement for the Leopard rider, who now sits in the top spot of the UWT rankings!
Spoiler
Pal was able to claim 10th place in the race, but the biggest surprise of the day, was 6th place for Eric Chen, the rider had protected Cavendickx for most of the day, but seeing his leaders poor form, jumped to chase when Cancellara attacked on the final climb, and was able to take an excellent 6th place in the Prestigious classic, a fine ride by him, and winner oh my Rider of the Race award.
We hope Adriaan will make a speedy recovery from his injury, but initial scans show that it is likely to be at least 3 weeks before Bassie will be able to get involved once more with the team, denting his hopes of contesting in the Giro D'Italia.

Settimana Coppi El Bartali
The team had a week off following the Milan-San Remo, but now the squad will split in two, as we prepare for the next 6 days, our Classics team are going to be riding both the Dwars dur Vlaandaren, as a warm up, before the Gent-Wevelgem, in 6days time.
Meanwhile the stage racers have travelled to Italy for a 6day event, the team named José Alvés as leader, the second time he has received the role, and the Settimana will also be used by Youtube Twitter as Gary Sutton's debut ride, in his run up to the Giro D'Italia, where he hopes to shine later on this year. Only 6 riders were sent to the Giro, holding back a strong squad for the Gent-Wevelgem, and also giving some of the riders some time off, after a hard start to the season.
Stage 1
The first stage of the Settimana, is a Criterium event of only 85km, a chance to relax for the likes of Xuo Zheng and Kardo Boss, who were faced with the prospect of 298km the last time they raced, just under a week previously. The small hill on the route may provide an opportunity for a rider to claim a breakaway victory, otherwise a sprint seems likely.
As the race began 3riders attacked managing to open a gap of just over a minute back to the peloton, a gap which seemed to small to lead to an overall victory with the pack chasing behind them.
Spoiler
As they entered the third lap, seven riders chose to bridge the gap to the front group, and the larger 10man group started to pull away from the pack opening a 3minute gap by lap 6.
Spoiler
Garmin and Lampre appeared to feel the gap was to threatening, hoping to set up there sprinters with a hope to take todays stage, and the break was reeled in by the chasing pack and unless a rider could get away on the final laps, the race seemed to be setting up for a bunch finish inside the peloton.
Spoiler
Alexander Il Cassano decided to try just that, hoping to take a stage win and the leaders jersey in his native Italy, he attacked off the front of the peloton, and his break seemed to be opening a gap back to the chasing pack.
Spoiler
The race against the clock began for Cassano, chased from behind he still had a small lead as he opened his sprint 2km from home, could he take the stage?
When the sprinters behind him fired, they caught Il Cassano passing him 500m from the finish line, but who would win overall...
Spoiler
Pietropolli initially appeared to have launched too late, but when he turned on the afterburners he was able to kick forwards and the race would be settled on the line, Fischer was trying to cling on with the Lampre sprinter closing the gap, Il Cassano passed the finish line in 4th place, a highly respectable placing which he can be very pleased with!
Spoiler
The Lampre-ISD sprinter took the victory right on the line, no more than half a wheel in front of Murilo Fischer of Garmin-Cervélo, meaning that he will start tomorrows Team Time Trial in the overall leaders jersey.

But i was disappointed with myself for finishing 86th in the Settimana Coppi El Bartali, i should have performed much better
Don't you worry just yet!
You're fitness isn't up there yet, and having chosen not to participate in the mass sprint finish, Gary Sutton cycled in with a +0 finish, with 2mountainous stages and a Team Time Trial next up, plenty of opportunity for Gary to climb up the rankings!
Settimana Coppi El Bartali Stage 2 Team Time Trial
The route for todays Team Time Trial, consisted of a 14km ride, 4km up a hill at the start, before the route flattened out for the last 7km to the finish line.
Today was a day for the best time trialing teams, Farnese Veni and Garmin were the suggested favourites, sadly, due to the smaller side, and only having two really strong Time Trialists, meant that today was a case of damage limitation, trying to avoid losing time on the other favourites.
The overall winner in todays stage was indeed Farnese-Veni, who set a high pace on the course as the last team to set off, and in the end, the pack was split by 57" from first to last.
Youtube managed a reasonable time, coming in 32" behind the leaders, a gap which should be simple enough for our climbers to close over the next two stages where we hope for success with either Gary Sutton, or José Alvés.
Wow, I was doing some real great thing in Paris-Nice! I want to congratulate you because of you keep the story up. It seems to be hard with your rider story's.
Guess who's back?
Lets see how many friens are still around...
Dwars Du Vlaanaderen
The Classics team were not treated to the sunny weather that the lads in italy are enjoying, today bringing with it 200km in the wind and rain around flanders. Todays we hoped to put one of our men of the podium, be it through a sprint finish, or a late breakaway, and as such, we catered for all possibilities, with Pal and Pye, should the race result in a sprint, or Cavendickx if he could manage to break away from the group.
Several riders attempted to break away early in the day, Eric Chen tried early on to join a break group, but these were all pulled back by the peloton, seeing this, TYT decided to avoid joining the break, until a group of ten riders eventually managed to open up 2minutes to the pack.
Spoiler
As this group started to look better set, Miguel Rocha attacked to join the group up ahead, and was able to catch the break away, using the car to shelter from the full force of the wind, meaning we were set for all potential finishes.
Spoiler
When the cobbles arrived, Miguel Rocha lead the breakaway forwards, and the break still had a lead, though they were being slowly reeled in by the chasing efforts of BMC Racing, and AN POST-Sean Kelly.
Spoiler
As the 25km mark arrived, Jey-Cy Cavendickx attacked, still in top condition thanks to the work of Heinrich Leinstein, who had spent the day protecting his leader, riding straight past the break, now no more than 30" ahead of the pack, and surged forwards, creating a gap, and still with a cobbled sections where he would be able to gain some time to go.
Spoiler
The other main favourites attacked to late, and with only 10km left, it seemed there chance was gone, Cavendickx was away but it didn't stop George Hincapie from trying, hoping to at least claim second place.
Spoiler
Sure enough, the line appeared in sight, and Cavendickx didn't even need a sprint finish, his ride over the last cobbles gave him enough of a buffer, and he passed the finish line 50" ahead of second placed George Hincapie.

Strong result for the classics riders today, taking culminating in an excellent solo victory for Jey-Cy Cavendickx, who will hope to carry this fantastic form into the Gent-Wevelgem later in the week, other good rides for both Pye and Lens, claiming 10th and 11th respectively, so overall, a good day for the side.
Settimana Coppi El Bartali
Back in Italy after yesterdays flanders success, the stage racers were preparing for the first mountainous stage, and hopefully a chance to claw our way back up the GC towards the top placings.
Todays stage is flat right until the end, when there is a climb that is likely to break up the peloton, which then descends back for a sprint to the finish amongst whatever remains near the front.
Youtube Twitter joined the breakaway today in the shape of Chinese rider Xuo Zheng, who found his way into a large break of around 14riders, who quickly placed a large gap between themselves and the peloton.
Spoiler
As the race drew on, only Quickstep had come to the fore to bring back the escaping group, and as such, despite representation further up the field, Youtube got involved and helped to bring the escape riders back to within the reach of the peloton, 3minutes ahead as they entered the beginning of the ascent of the Trebbio.
Spoiler
With Gary Sutton protecting Alvés as they drew up the climb, the two of them attacked in order to try and claim back some time against the GC leaders.
Spoiler
Initially they appeared to be escaping, but the front group had them pinned at around 40" ahead of the pack. The initial break was caught by the two groups as they neared the summit of the climb, when the peloton was ripped into 2 groups, of 41 up front, and around 70riders, were trapped 2minutes behind the leaders.
Spoiler
As they reached the summit of the climb it was disaster for TYT, Gary Sutton suffered a puncture, which cost him a place in the front group, placing him out of contention for the overall, 2minutes behind after arriving at the finish with the Gruppetto that formed behind the front few riders.
Spoiler
The front group launched there sprint, though the riders from Youtube who were present chose not to participate, they were poorly positioned, and for today, just arriving in the front group would be enough for José, and Timo, who will be desparately trying to make more of tomorrows stage.
Spoiler
In the end, it was Filippo Savini who took the stage win, after a powerful sprint in order to hold off the competition, his first win of the season, and placing him joint top of the points rankings.
Spoiler
Today sadly did not go to plan for the Youtube riders, in particular, big name British climber Gary Sutton, who due to a mechanical error has been taken out of contention for the races overall rankings, and will spend the rest of the tour working instead to make sure that Spanish team mate Alvés can do as well as possible come the finish in 4days time.

Settimana Coppi El Bartali Stage 4
Today was the last true mountain stage of the Italian 6 day race, and the hardest of the tour, TYT were determined of a strong placing today, having not performed at the standard they had hoped for up to this point. Gary Sutton was hoping to set up a stage win if possible or at the very least, move the riders up the GC standings.
The break was away right from the start, but they were fighting for every second just as soon, and the peloton made it clear that the early break would not be getting anywhere, thanks to the efforts of Quickstep, who pegged the breakaway, at just under a minute right from the start.
Spoiler
On the days big climb, Team Youtube Twitter took over at the front, there mission was simple, to drop as many riders as possible without losing anyone of our own, or over straining leader José Alvés, as the ascent began, 4 riders came to the front, and relayed up the climb at a tremendous pace and cracks started appearing in the peloton.
Spoiler
Sure enough, the pace was simply too rapid for many riders, and group after group fell away from the peloton, 5km from the top, just 60 riders remained, and group 2 was already over 2 minutes behind them.
Spoiler
At this point, Sutton and Alvés who had been sitting neatly in the group attacked, taking one rider with them, and surging forward from the group, weakened thanks to the work of Bern, Boss, Zheng and Il Cassano. They were able to create a gap back to the peloton, but Gary Sutton, still lacking fitness this early in his season, lagged behind, and fell away as Alvés began the final climb of the day.
Spoiler
On the last climb, a small group of riders who had stayed on the peloton were able to catch Alvés and overtook him with just 1.2km left in the race, the question now became whether he could hang on for a much needed +0" finish and move up the GC classification.
The front group passed in front of him, but the race had a 10" time split requirement, and 8" after the first rider- Allessandro Vannotti, crossed the finish line, José Alvés rode through, meaning he was one of 7riders to finish in the front group.

Spoiler
This result means the Alvés rises to 7th place in the overall rankings, and 2nd place in his personal target, the under 25's classification, he will be hoping to claw back the 3" gap between himself and Katusha rider Ovechkin, on the final days hilly criterium, and claim the -25 jersey, and with a bit of luck also a top 5 position overall.
The result also brings Team Youtube Twitter, to the top of the Team Rankings, thanks to the excellent work of the 4 team mates (Boss, Bern, Il Cassano and Zheng) who set a pace that simply meant riders could not keep up, the last riders to cross the line today, were over 35 minutes behind Group 1!
Spoiler
Today finally brings a strong result for the team, controlling the Peloton, and taking a strong finish rising up the GC rankings, as we now leave the mountains, and head for flatter ground in which to finish the tour.
