It's a ring toss game!

Boonen had spent half the season not training hard and not racing hard because of a ban and subsequent lack of training.

Farrar was clearly (and self-admittedly too) in his best form of the season.

Bennati was fresh as a cucumber from not racing much because of an injury.

Bozic was also in his best form of the season.

Boonen I dont rate as a sprinter. He can sprint, yes, but he doesnt always seem to want to.

Farrar may have been in his best form, but it was still his 3rd GT - even if he missed the last week of the Giro. And Farrar is still struggling it seems to turn Top 5s into regular wins.

Bennati had a poor season last year (for what he is capable of), and Bozic isnt really a major sprinter yet - in a way the Vuelta was his first breakthrough with a major stage win.

And anyway, Greipel still had his team support. That was good enough that Henderson was able to win a stage despite intending to lead out Greipel.

So, to recap your logic: Greipel isn't all that because the guys he beat all suck.

Cavendish is awesome even though the opposition he beats consists of exactly the same guys.

Add national bias, rinse and repeat Pfft

Basically, I had to put up with the Cavendish argument for a good season where he 'wasnt winning the right races' or 'beating the right people'. Now people accept he is the best, and its my turn to slate all other sprinters

Plus, having read Cav's autobiography, I have a great dislike of Greipel! Pfft

yeah but you know cav. he can come across as a cock himself as well

You missed the splash of bicarbonate of soda.

I drunk it, sorry.

Ahh well, that's better than Waghlon. He had to get his bicarbonate through an enema.

I knew it was happening, but I still wanted to throw up when I saw this...

I bloody hate Ricco.

Its a sad day, he ought to still be suspended at least until July.

At least the major races are continuing to ignore his team

I like his cycling style. But I hate his personality his ways of training (dope) and I especially hate that he is back. I liked him and all but he dosn't deserve it, and I hate his personallity, I also hate the way he got off easy. Ok what did I miss? oh yeah I hate his personality.

Stumbled upon an article, saying that the world's largest pump manufacturer, Grundfos, is sponsoring the World Championship in track cycling in Denmark (this week). That's their first sponsorship in cycling.

Possibly a new main sponsor for Team Saxo Bank? They did say that they are in negotiations with one (or two - don't remember exactly) Danish sponsor(s).

Today, Trey Greenwood said that they are no longer negotiating with them. They are, however, in talks with another Danish company.

I'm beginning to think that I was not the most surprised at their Vuelta performance, looks like race organizers don't trust them.

Caisse has officially suspended Piti.

Or, as the team's press officer put it, no doubt to try and avoid the word SUSPENDED: "Registered his non-active status with the UCI"

Good news that Valverde has to make a small break until he will ride againSmile

I also cannot understand why Vacansoleil didn´t get an invitation with riders like Hoogerland....

Listen to the rumours boy. If the fan hears the rumours, then you can be damned sure the race organisers hear them too.

It was nice of Cassie and Valverde to rack up a few more points for my dream team this month before taking a break Smile

Except if his team has suspended him, that means a penalty in the game.

There's a rather interesting interview with Michael Rasmussen in one of the more serious newspapers (one of the few that I actually respect), Weekendavisen. Read it if you can Wink

Anyway - by 'interesting', I mean due to the fact that you get to see who he really is. Let me quote this:
Q: "How do you avoid getting frustrated by everything that has happened?"
MR: "I haven't avoided it. There's certainly some people who, if they died, I'd be more happy. If they suffered a lot and then died, I'd feel better. It can be a sick thought to have and perhaps even more sick to say out loud, but it's the truth. There are some people who, if something really bad happened to them, I'd send them a card and congratulate them"

Sick. Just sick.

Other interesting points? He says that Bjarne Riis could be the guy who says "enough is enough" and brings him back to Pro Tour. He says that, with himself on Team Saxo Bank (he calls it CSC...), he'd be able to make a difference and give the victory to the team.

On another note, he also defends Pantani. He says that everyone competed on equal terms back then (in 1999). Pantani's level got above 50, his competitors' were probably a little bit lower.
I guess we can all agree to that. The difference comes when the journalist asks: "What about those who didn't take drugs back then? Is it fair and equal to those?"

MR: "They had the opportunity"
Q: "So they should just have done that (= taken the drugs)?"
MR: "The rules permitted it..."

They then go on to talk about the rules now-a-days, and MR says that he's pro the haemotocrit value limit (of 50), but he's against the whereabout system and the out-of-competition tests. Surprise, surprise...

And my last note from the interview is that MR repeats what he said back in 2007: That Hushovd, at the time, had two warnings, given by the Norwegian Anti Doping Federation.

Meh. Just Michael being Michael.

Being that deluded is also very much typical of Michael.

Yes. And as a result of going far beyond what most dared in the quantities of EPO, Pantani's body became incapable of naturally producing EPO so he had to take the stuff every two or three days and have a blood transfusion every once in a while to avoid dying.

And that's a big part of what gave Pantani his insane performances.

Hushovd is the only clean top rider I know - Jan Kirsipuu

Honesty is his middle name, for those who don't know him.
