The big races in cycling usually start with the Paris - Nice and this year is not an exception. Luis Leon Sanchez won it last year but it looks harder to repeat that now, with riders like Valverde, Contador, Evans, Armstrong, Kloden, Nibali or Kirchen here.
Contador looks like the main favorite but this is going to be the first race he is going to ride this year so we shouldn't expect too much from him as we don't have any idea about his current level.
Team Sky will be lead in France by 2 Brits: Bradley Wiggins and Ben Swift. But neither of them seems to have a great form at the moment so we should expect too much from them either, even though Wiggins might sneak into the top 10 overall at the end of the race.
Teak Sky for Paris - Nice:
Kurt - Asle Arvesen
John Lee Augustyn
Sylvain Calzati
Serge Pauwels
Nicolas Portal
Chris Sutton
Ben Swift
Bradley Wiggins

Great to see Ben Swift there! Will he be your main sprinter or just the lead-out-man for Sutton? |

he'll be the main sprinter but as I said he doesn't have a great form at the moment.

that's what I meant by the new stats in the March calendar post. If you click on his name you'll get to a picture with his new stats, which are 77 now in sprint.

The first stage in Paris - Nice is an individual time - trial in Amilly, but since it's only 9 kilometers long it should make any big gaps between the favorites, which will be fighting in the mountains to take this year's Paris - Nice overall win. For today's stage the main favorites are Contador, Gustav Larsson, Wiggins and Tony Martin
Valverde was the first rider at the start and he came with quite a nice time 11 minutes and 12 seconds
Millar was very close to beat his time, but took only a previous second place, less than one second behind the Spaniard
Paris - Nice is always one of Chavanel's best races and this year doesn't look to be an exception. He takes the lead by beating Valverde's time with 5 seconds
Another French man with a good ride today was Sebastien Joly, who was just 4 seconds slower than Sylvain Chavanel
Kirchen is Katusha's main rider for the mountains and for this TT as well but he had a rather disappointing result, losing 17 seconds to Chavanel
Nibali was even more disappointing than that losing 26 seconds to the Quick Step rider
Larsson was the big favorite at the start of the day and he managed to beat Chavanel. But his time wasn't an amazing one, being just 3 seconds faster than the French man
Luis Leon Sanchez won last year's Paris - Nice after a big mistake from Contador. This year he isn't even the team leader and this TT didn't make it any better for him losing 53 seconds to Larsson and 45 to Valverde
Even though this is Contador first official race of the year he put in a very strong ride and he beat Larsson's time even though he did it only for a second
Tony Martin was another rider that disappointed today. After being one of the main favorites at the start of the day he finished 13 seconds behind Contador
Evans won the Aussie National time - trial but this one has bigger names and he was even slower than Martin, losing 14 seconds to Contador
After showing some nice time - trial skills in Andalucia, Gerdemann did it again today and he came with an amazing time, beating Contador's time by 4 seconds. He looks to be the main favorite now to become the first leader in this year's Paris - Nice!
It looks like 7 Tour de Frances aren't going to help you too much when it comes to Paris - Nice as Armstrong loses 18 seconds to Gerdemann
Wiggins was the last rider to start today but he wasn't able to Gerdemann's time either, who wins the opening time - trial of Paris - Nice 2010. Wiggins was really far away from beating the German's time finishing 22 seconds behind him, on the 26th place

Even though there's climb with just 10 kilometers before the finish this seems to be a stage made for sprinters, which can be only good news for Lovkvist
On the downhill from that last climb of the day there was quite a big crash in the pack. Some important names were caught there and lost their positions in the general classification: Rovny, Machado and Efimikin
Once again the last climb proved to be too hard for Henderson and he wasn't able to fight in the sprint. Flecha and Vigano couldn't do a better job either and they just followed the Cervelo train, which was clearly the strongest one of the day
Vicioso had a nice lead - out on the other side of the road but inside the last kilometer it was a rider who followed the Cervelo train, who was in the lead. But it wasn't Bos, it was Barbosa
Barbosa showed once again his power in the Continental races, where he is leading the individual classification, and took his second stage win here. Lovkvist finished safety in the pack and he is the winner of Vuelta a Murcia 2010!

The second stage in Paris - Nice is a stage made for sprinters. Bennati, Ciolek, Boonen, Napolitano and Petacchi are the main favorites of the day but there's predicted some strong wind for the last half of the stage and that might prove to be an important factor in the sprint
Some important names went away from the pack today such as Wynants, Auge, Tjallingii or Turpin. But only Stephane Auge was interested in the KoM jersey and after passing first the 2 summits of the day he will be wearing the polka dot tomorrow
Inside the last 10 kilometers of the stage the rainbow jersey went down. Evans didn't have a great yesterday and he really didn't need this crash
In the pack it's very hard to control the sprint. Arvesen and Sutton tried to build up a train but Swift didn't manage to come into it. This doesn't looks like going to be Ben's race
Ista was the fastest rider in the first meters of the sprint. The Sky and Liquigas train were right behind him in their attempt to find the best position for the sprint
Arvesen looked like have found it but suddenly Sutton started to lose speed and the Norwegian's wheel, which puts Chicci and Bennati in a better position than us
Still Bennati waited to much behind his team - mate's wheel and with a little help from the wind Arvesen made a small gap
Bennati came really fast in the last meters but it was too late to stop the Norwegian Champion, who probably shine for one of the last times in his career. Evans lost almost 4 minutes after his crash as none of his BMC team - mates waited for him. Also Luis Leon Sanchez had some problems losing more than 5 minutes to the pack today, even though he didn't have any technical problems and he wasn't involved in the crash either

Good win with Arversen, with that field it is going to be hard to get a good placement, even harder because Wiggins shape isn't top, hope you prove me wrong =D

Well with a bit of luck he might sneak into the top 10. There's still an another flat stages before the important ones and he might gain a few more fitness points before it gets serious.
