Where are the positives? what the hell is going on?
I'm expecting them to come during the final week or a few weeks after the Tour. Funny how the doping breakout stories have disappeared at the same time Lance returns to the race, eh?
or since the UCI/WADA thing... |

When the testers accept to sit down and wait for 55 minutes instead of go test the riders, you won't get any positives, that's for sure. |

I am sure someone said that Wiggins is weighting 63 kg, but according to other sources he is 71 kg, being the previous tour's weight of 76 kg. Can anyone confirm this?
Edit: I found this https://www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/archiv...ition.html

hmm that story; i don't like Astana but Grégory Rast has a column in a swiss newspaper in which he wrote that this whole story was total bullshit and blown by German media, which still can't forgive that Armstrong was better than Ullrich. In my opinion, Rast is reliable. |

Fact: Testers arrive, they wait for 55 minutes before they test the riders.
Fact: In 55 minutes, you can use products to cover up the doping.
I'm not saying that it (the Astana riders using masking products) happened, but I am saying that it could have happened, and that we won't get any positives as long as the testers screw up that much. |

I completely agree with that! just wanted to point out, that I read something interesting, which some of you (more likely the most) weren't able to

Anyone heard anything about the rumour that Lance and Johan will have their own pressconf. today where they will announce the new team with livestrong, trek and nike as sponsors? |

That link is from May 2006, it is hardly relevant considering Wiggins will have been at his 'bulkiest' in 2008 for the Olympics.

Verbier was still a short mountain, so don't get overly sold on Wiggo yet.
He has done great, but I have a feeling he will have a MAJOR blow-up in upcoming stages coming... It might only be on Ventoux, but I just don't believe he has an hour of effective climbing in him - not yet this year.
OTOH, Sastre almost always gets stronger by every mountain km covered. I think he is still a serious candidate for 2nd spot as I believe him making up meaningful time to everybody but Conta & Andy from here on AND he will beat Andy by 1 to 1½ mins in Annecy TT.
Klödi could probably fight for the 2nd spot too, but only if Astana is ready to let him do it while Lance would be demoted below Klödi as a helper for Contador. NOT LIKELY!
Top 15 pick :
1) Contador
2) Sastre
3) A.Schleck
4) Klöden
5) Nibali
6) Casar (makes up some 5 mins in a successful breakaway on stage 17)
7) Lance
8) Cadel Evans
9) F.Schleck
10) Wiggins
11) Tony Martin
12) Vandevelde
13) Le Mevel
14) Karpets
15) Nocentini |

Some interesting points, seldon71.
But why do you think that Sastre will beat A. Schleck by that much in the time trial? Once again, and I've been saying this a couple of times, there's no reason to underestimate A. Schleck's time trial skills. He's not as bad as people tend to think.
E.g. he finished 18th on the 15.5 opening time trial, 6 seconds better than Sastre.

I can see Schleck getting that 2nd spot more easily. And Wiggins, he's probably going to be top 7. Let's wait and see. |

Andy will be the one killing himself in next two mountain stages trying to find a way to beat Contador. Sastre doesn't have the explosion to even try something that hopeless. Thus Sastre is the one who will be in absolute peak for Annecy & Ventoux. I just believe that in a power TT on 3rd week of a tour he will be surprisingly strong (fighting even-steven with Nibalis etc.) while Andy slips to adequate-level.
All speculation, of course. |
