If it is what it takes to be succesfull in my sport, yes I would. And it's what it takes in every sport, even rowing which ain't even a pro sport.

Likewise. That's why I was never tempted to become a sporter. I know I would cheat and fall through anyway |

If i knew i had reached a point where the only way i could progress further was to dope, yes. Hell i probably would just to keep up with the average level of the sport if i were bad.
So yeah, i probably would, but i also know i would feel bad about it.

Its an interesitng question. And i have asked it myself in the recent time. I have been a runner as well and have been doing it on a good amateur level as up to 3rd of January this year when i became injured. I focused sub 2:30 for this years Hamburg Marathon having done 2:34:47 before in Berlin.
Now i am half year injured, mainly muscular problems induced by a tiny cartliage (right word?) defect and a heavy weight drop. As the main problem is that i can practically not build up any muscular in my right leg at the moment or just very slow, because the vastus mediales is to weak the patella is now going to much to the outside which makes pain and impossible to do any sport with much intensity, it got little better lately. But not much.
But coming to the point of the question, if i would get offered something that would help me to build up the vmo muscular faster, better and stronger or make me heel quicker i would do it to come back. But i wouldnt take prohibited things just to win or be better (easy said, wothout nerver having experienced that boost) in the competition. But thats easy said. I think when a pro athlete first takes dope he may be in a similar situation (being injured, being back in form, need to improve to get a pro contract,...), in such a situation you are weak and very open to take things. Maybe you tell yourself i'll take it untill i reach a certain state. But i think once you experienced that boost some substances give you, you get somekind of addicted to it and its so easy to get addiceted to success, addicted to that improvement. if you get it you want more, you want to be better.
When i won my first local run with ~500 participants. I began to take food suplements (Protein, Vitamins, Iron, Minerals,...). That gave me another boost and at least 1 1/2 Minute over 10k over the time. I got the instant feedback when i won another local run with ~3500 participants some time later.
And lets get real most good athletes already take a lot of things they dont get with normal food just to resist the high amount of training stress. Basically every young athlete is trained to do so. Food suplements all the way. And already that gives you a lot of boost and its not normal food you could practically call it the first step to doping (gateway drug ).
When i sometimes read some forums i find people who are fans of rider xy and what they write it sounds like this guy is doing his performances with just bread and water. Lets get real thats not how pro endurance sport works.
Endurance sport makes highly dependent, so makes success. Its an easy conclusion that most pro athletes are at least vulnerable for doping.

In hockey its rarely heard of. Doping that is. I'm sure some people in the NHL dope but its not a high number. I am most succesful at hockey out of all the many sports I do. (Wont name them all but 5-9 year round including school teams). SO if I was offered the opportunty todope I wouldn't do it. I would feel so much guilt that winning wouldn't feel too good. I find that riding the bike really helps with cardio and endurance well actually playing a variety of sports helps a lot so I think that to be a top athlete in any sport is acheivable without P.E.D's.
Plus I'm sure you've all heard the rumours about what part of the body steriods can shrink. But whether thats true I'm not quite sure.

If cheating could give me a chance at winning I would absolutely consider it. Being doping or playing foul in a soccer match, it doesn't matter. If I would stand a chance at being a winner instead of a loser I would cheat.

I would only cheat in a sport if i made it pro without cheating first. So you would be cheating to beat the other cheaters, not cheating just to get beaten by fair athletes. |

The anti-doping work in NHL is practiacly non-existent and have far more lose rules than the ones dictated by WADA. And with hockey players playing 82 games from end september på start april I would be very surprised if they aren't using stuff for recuperation. It would proerpbly be stuff like EPO or bloodtransfusions that would be used. I wouldn't "recommend" using steroids because of the many side effects and the fact that it's easy detecable. Just saying that thinkibng that no-one is doping is naive when you look at what is done and how physical challenging NHL is.

I think it's just impossible to be a professoinal athlete and don't use some kind of doping. So, would I be a pro, I would use it too, as all of them

Steroids do far more damaging things than shrink your reproductive organs.

I wouldn't take PEDs for any reason. That's it. And it's not like I'm a such a fair man, it's just that my health > winning certaint race, match, whatever. If I needed to take PEDs to be a professional athlete, I'd rather do any other job.
BUT, there are other ways of cheating. And I certainly would use them if I needed to. |

Like enlarging your heart muscle thus leading to severly increasing the risk of early cardiac arrest as well as shortening your life span.
Would i dope? Depends on the sport. Any of those american sports with a draft system? Yes, just by getting drafted into NFL you can virtually guarantee 300.000 dollars. Thats a lot of money in any mans language. Cycling? Probably not.

in cycling, it's required.
Your'e right you can't drive up mountain for 21 days, You can't ride races of 295kms and going at 55 kms/ hour in the last 30kms
I don't think that there are riders in the peleton that haven't taked something. I also don't protect my favorite riders because you must be fair.
You could see it comming from miles away that Ricco was doped but you could still love the way he rides...
And my answer is: Yes i would take if it would be required to be a good rider.

No, I don't think I would, at least, not unless my job was on the line, then maybe I would reconsider.

I don't think I'd want to cheat regardless of the sport, or what anyone else is doing.
Where would be the sense of self-worth? You haven't achieved anything if you have to resort/stoop low enough to cheat, lie, and basically steal your result from others.
Meanwhile, if you won or achieved something on your own back, without cheating, and you know others are, then you'd be far happier with yourself. Or at least I would.

Some n00b trawled back into the centuries of time to haul it out by it's neck. Normally I'd insult said n00b, but I've been instructed to keep insults to a minimum with the "title" I have.
