One mustn't forget that the rules also seem to be different if you have a rider leading a race. If so the odds of a break succeeding are greater unless you take part in the chase. |

I use original DB(just real name db) and the break succed only if no one of my riders is in a break. If i try to get in a break they just all start to catch us.... Its just like previous years you against all..... |

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I wonder what stages you guys all play? Of course in Paris Roubaix and the Tour of Flanders the peloton gets much smaller over time, but I don't think that's a breakaway.
If you guys ride the Tour de France, do a lot of breakaways work? Because that was actually what I meant when starting this topic. I rode the Tour now, and (except for mountain stages), not a single breakaway in the flat stages worked. |

I had a break that had a 5 minute lead, it went down all the way to 1 minute and then they ended up winning by 6 or 7 minutes.

All in all, breakaways are happening way too rarely. And sometimes you get the feeling Al is chasing only you and not other cyclists.
F.ex - breakaway group has around 3 minutes lead and is growing. Then i attack with a crappy rider more than 100 km from the finish (from the peloton) and they start chasing like crazy. I can't get more than minute lead lead and when they catch me the speed dramatically drops and front group starts increasing the gap again.

Yeah i wish they would get rid of the AI mentality vs the player or at least make it have the same aggressiveness against other ai teams. Usually if i send someone out on the attack the peloton always works a lot harder to bring me back. If i do not send anyone in the attack, the breakaway has a higher chance of getting away.
I found the best way for myself to win a break was during a mountain stage(Not a mountain finish, but a nice downhill finish) with a decent not great rider going early in the chase and just riding at the limit to where his yellow bar is almost starting to drain. Hopefully you will still have a decent lead going into the mountain and then at the top just hurdle yourself down the mountain as fast as you can and usually you can succeed unless the peloton does not let you get that far in the first place.
If you want the ai breakaway to succeed, just do not do anything=) Its ridiculous. |

Well, I played probably only the fourth stage or so in my career.
As I said a break made it in the national championships.
This time it was in a stage of the Tour of California. Cracking stage actually - 17 man break and I missed the winning move from this about 15k out.
Pack came home around 2'30 down. Another team had yellow.
So, 2 from 4 so far for me. |

Breakaway did work for me about 4-5 times in 60+ 3D races (never when I was in breakaway too).
But when I`m playing National championships and there are too little riders like(less or around 30) in Swiss or Ukraine champ (doesn`t worked at Spanish or Germany champ where are 40+ riders) I easily make it to finish with just one rider...
For example Ukraine one (with Popovych) about 170 km long, I broke away at 150 km to go and made it solo with 3 min gap to the finish. |

My opinion exactly of what misfire200 said. Everytime when you're in the breakaway, it never works.
Try this: get in a breakaway in the TdF. Send a driver along in the first wave of breakaways, then when that one is caught, send another one in the second wave. When that one is caught don't send anyone in the third one. I bet that the third one will last longest...
Once the AI sees that you're in the breakaway, they start chasing like hell. |
