The last couple of times we had this discussion I said Vande Velde (in late 2007), and then Rabon and Haedo (in early 2008)
Guess I screwed up the Haedo one, eh?
Right now? I can't think of anyone, to be honest. I'll post if I remember someone
But I'd like to restate something I've been saying ever since he won a tour stage and gained a lot of recognition:
Hunter is woefully overrated.
In terms of stamina, yes you did. In terms of finishing skills he could be described as being underrated, but I guess that's because you never see him unfolding those skills, hence his incredibly low stamina.

As South African I feel obliged to call you out on this one. Hunter was a strong rider who, although not a top sprinter, can hold his own in small tours and win from breaks in the big ones. Even you have to admit he had an awesome tour in 07 and was one of the top 2-3 sprinters there. As much to his own surprise as anyones, judgung from what he said at the time. Then he has done reasonably well in those slightly hilly sprint stages.

Right. Now check any thread on bunch sprints where people consistently point out Hunter as a candidate....
That's being overrated

Wait, what? How? Why? When?
He won one stage where most of the pack crashed, leaving such elite sprinters as Murilo Fischer, Fabian Cancellara and Robert Hunter to contest the stage.
And even then, this "top sprinter" only barely beat the time triallist in a photo finish.
Also haimar zubeldia was very underrated. He was one of the best stage racers in the world a few years back. You just have to look at his stats on pcm games and it says it all. He is always a 77 god knows why!!
Don't you think he means in real life? or is it just me?
Obviously you camel i proving a point in regards to his ratings on pcm to others so it backs up my point and nobody used to mention him as a gt contendor a few years back when he was in his prime.
Another very over rated rider is thomas dekker grrrr. People lap him up!
Anyway back onto topic and mr efimkin is a class rider who never seems to get a mention. Top 10 tdf last year that impressive. Also jens voigt as everyone claims he is a break away specialist. He can climb go well on the flat hills time trial. A true all rounder in every sense of the word.
To be fair, he was a high scoring 2nd in the points classification that year. His good 2nd place behind Hushovd on stage 4 springs to mind as one other good result.

he normally is a cndidte, he is up there with 1k to go and if he gets in good position he has the speed to win a stage sometimes.

That you are someone tearing robbie Hunter down and I am trying to lift him back up, yeh that pretty much is what is happening.

Yes he won that one stage, he also was second in another when he was much faster and should have won, look how angry he was after the race:
He ws also second in the green jersey, having a chance of taking it in Paris, I remember Barloworld pulling the peleton down champs trying to catch the break.
His results for that tour are as follows:
1st stage 14
2nd stage 4
3rd stage 12
4th stage 2 and stage 20
5th stge 3
not that bad.

Imo other riders who are underrated: Carlos Barredo & Simon Gerrans.
Barredo can with the right team make a top 10 in a GT (he did come 10th in Vuelta 07).
Gerrans is a great sprinter & can climb very well.
Sami Sanchez´s TT-skills are also underrated.
Hunter is not overated. he dosent have anyone to help him in the sprints. I dont know what its called in english. But take cavendish he got a whole team to help him in the sprints. Hunter got no one. Hunter aint overated. Faggots

Last years tour he did jack **** and you cant moan. I think that is one of the reasons they didnt get a wildcard this year as he and hunter didnt live up to what they did the year before and also the drug barron guy.
I agree with mikky barry like the guy said earlier. One of the most loyal teammates you could have and pulls the race along for 50-80kms.
Do you have to insult people for disagreeing with you?

To answer your question, No. If you state an opinion, you are opening it to rebuttal. If you think he's a good sprinter, thats fine, but you cannot get pissed at isso and co. for debating it with you.
I also agree with the con side with Hunter. He's got a good kick, but he's just not good enough for full field sprints. He doesn't have the staying power of a Boonen or the speed of a Cavendish or McEwen. If he got it through his head that he can't be these guys, and became more of a breakaway rider, he would win lots of stages and maybe some small stage races. However, he cannot beat the top sprinters in the world in a field sprint unless he gets lucky.
