Cheers for the support guys, keep it coming
Vlaamse Pijl
Another cobbles-based Belgian one-dayer. Perfect for me as it's not too attritional. I have the Polazzi brothers as my lieutenants.
Team-mate Fontaine went in the break.
Over the cobbles and the race split like a watermelon dropped from a great height. I ended up in the 3rd group with a few team-mates while Fontaine stayed ahead in the break and a group broke away from us.
But everything came back together. I was a little far back entering the sprint, behind my lead-out train and with two team-mates lurking behind.
De Neef managed to gap the rest of us and I hadn't managed to make up much ground as the sprint exploded around me.
I found a sublime burst of speed and made up about 8 places in the last few metres. I still couldn't catch De Neef but made the podium for the first time. If I had just been positioned better, who knows?

Apart from a monumental cock up in the sprint I would have won that and Alejandro has just levelled up so I need your opinions. Should I up it to extreme to stave off the victories or should I start the win-fest?

It's the day before Rhudy Daenens and I can tell you about some of the big results going on in the world of cycling.
The Boogie Man took Paris-Nice back to the Netherlands:
Dome-headed German Stefan Schumacher won Tirreno-Adriatico with a crushing TT win:
Oscar Freire scored another victory in 'La Primavera':
Which leaves him leading the ProTour:
And Rabobank the teams classification after his results were combined with Boogerd:
Garzelli is in charge of the CT (I'm about 60th):
But it is Agritubel who lead the teams:
See you at Rhudy Daenens!

GP Rhudy Daenens
Another one-day race in Flanders, with a paved section and small climb each lap, although the small climb is a bridge.
Klaas races with me for the first time this year and I am leader again, with Rik away racing in the Tour de Normandie.
After a hectic first 20km a break of 3 escaped, containing Skil's Tomoya Kano. They raced hard but made little leeway although a good amount of publicity in front of an already large crowd.
Over the bridge with 100km to go and the race split big time, riders strewn all over the place.
The lead group I and most of my team-mates were in swallowed the break but soon stopped working, it's ranks eventually swelling to 80 or so. With 13km remaining, Baugnies launched an attack, Omloop and Eeckhout following.
Eeckhout was by far the strongest and surged away from the other two as the support reached fever pitch.
Although our group wasn't working entirely coherently the gap was reduced as we reached the final cobbled sector. It was breaking point.
But the attackers held out, Nico Eeckhout doing the Belgian champions jersey justice.
I was badly placed going into the final sprint.
However, I finished well, 3rd in our group and 6th on the day.

So that's extreme
Options: Hard - winning .2 races, 6th or so in .1
Extreme - 6th in .2, out of the running in .1
what do you want now you've seen the options?

Definitely extreme.
Make getting victories and big results as much a challenge as is possible, rather than having it relatively easy from the start. |
