Thanks peeps.
The initial escapees, Thire is there for Auber.
More riders break from the peloton.
We have a lot of riders up front now.
To the helicopter and the break is working well, trying to squeeze out as much time as possible.
The peloton has had enough already and reels the break in.
Thire manages to break away though and bags maximum points at the first classified climb.
Another break is formed as a result.
The peloton is still bunched together on these roads.
Thire surges clear to take the 2nd classified climb, he'll be in the jersey on stage 3.
Besson Chaussures - Sojasun are moving the peloton into gear, ready for a sprint. However there are frantic late attacks.....
So Pierrick Fédrigo triumphs!

Thire in the climbers jersey at the start.
He joins the initial attack of the day.
But more and more attacks come from the peloton and he can't keep up, his intended defence of the jersey has gone up in smoke.
A large break forms and it contains 3 Landbouwkrediet riders!
The break as it plows along.
Bobbie Traksel hits trouble, a very unlucky rider.
Riders on the attack, including David Moncoutié.
Bacquet drops from the peloton.
The break still pushing along but how much further will they be able to make it.
More riders begin to drop off the back, including Thire.
Moncoutié attacks alone.
The peloton is cranking it up though, the view from the helicopter gives an idea of the gaps.
The Auber trio of Brouzes, Haddou and Mazet attack in an attempt to make it across as the attacks fly.
It's too late and Cunego takes the win.

The break of the day, minus Auber riders as they seem intent on saving their energies.
That's as far as the first camera man can go as the break crosses a bridge.
The peloton making it's way among some sunflowers.
A helicopter view of the break, this is becoming standard.
A Landbouwkrediet rider drops from the peloton.
The break moving along and working well together.
An attack from Landbouwkrediet's De Waele.
Up and over the 2nd climb and Auber lose two riders.
The break as the gap disappears, we see several Auber riders launch fruitless attacks just as the last intermediate bears down. They go nowhere and it's down to a bunch sprint.
Robert Hunter winning today.

Agritubel are in action quickly as a teammate suffers a fall, four of their riders drop back to pace him back to the peloton.
The break of the day, Auber-less again, moves past some sunflowers.
The peloton moving along past some..... you get the idea.
Jussi Veikkanen suffers a fall and loses contact with the peloton.
Inside the last 10kms and Gallopin is involved in a crash and is injured. Bacquet already dropped seems to go straight over the top of him.
Bunch sprint again and Gadret get enough of an advantage to take the win.

Richard Dubois sat alone, worried. The Etoile brought the team down to earth with a bump and personally for him, he was worried about the other sponsor goals after this defeat. He was also worried that he could be overworking the team. Nearly all of them would have only 2 days rest (including today) before taking the start at the Tour Méditerranéen. Things were now getting tougher make no mistake about it. Dubois sat there sipping his coffee when he was approached by a courier. “Excuse me, are you Monsieur Dubois?” Richard replied that he was and the courier handed him a letter, special delivery. Dubois signed and opened the letter, it read:
“Though you'll be feeling down as well as you're riders, I encourage you not to give up, fight hard and your reward will come. You'll be worrying about sponsor goals, to some that's important but to others thats obsolete.”
There was no name and it left Dubois a little uneasy, if there was someone watching him, it's not something he'd like. |

Squad: Mederel, Thire, Gallopin, Mazet, Bacquet, Le Boulch, Haddou, Mombaerts
The front of today's break and Thire is there for Auber.
An alternate view of the break as they make their way along.
The break makes it's way past some fields.
The 'stalker cam' view of the peloton.
Thire attacks the break....
and takes the classified climb, meaning he'll appear in another climbers jersey.
The break making it's way back to Thire.
The peloton though is charging as the sprinters teams seem determined to have this end in a sprint.
Several members of the break attack in a last ditch attempt to stay away but it comes down to a sprint....

Katusha only have 3 riders present.
Silence are a little better with 5.
It's time for Auber.
Thire in the climbers jersey.
The team is still together as they pas some fields.
Water hazard as the team make their way to the finish.

Yeah, not too shabby.
The break of the day, Thire is there in an attempt to defend his climbers jersey.
Close, he takes the first classified climb by a little margin.
The long and winding road for the break.
Thire goes aerodynamic!
The peloton is now on a blistering pace.
Counter attacks set off from the peloton, it plays havoc when they reach the break. Ermanno Capelli takes the 2nd climb, putting him level with Thire as Thire scores nothing.
The peloton soon reels everyone back in though.
A disaster for Auber as Gallopin and team leader Mombaerts are drooped, the lose just over 5 minutes.
Up front and a group manages to pull clear of the peloton, Bacquet attacks across to join them in the sprint for the line, Scholz pulls clear...
Nothing could stop Napolitano!
1 Danilo Napolitano Team Katusha 3h05'24
2 Ronny Scholz Team Milram st
3 Matti Breschel Team Saxo Bank st
----------------------------------------------------
7 Fabien Bacquet Auber 93 st
Scholz is the new leader. |

Ricardo van der Velde attacks, Thire (who lost his climbers jersey to Capelli) decides against joining him.
Thus van der Velde has no problems taking the first classified climb.
Riders surge forward at the climbs for the points but quickly sit up.
van der Velde continues on his lonely path.
He keeps on going.
The bunch gets strung out as the pace quickens.
Soon it's all over and the bunch is back together. Thire, Haddou and Mombaerts launch an attack. Haddoue gets clear, under the kite.....
But he can't hold on as Breschel and Fränk Schleck go 1-2 for Saxo Bank.

2 Fränk Schleck Team Saxo Bank st
3 Leonardo Duque Cofidis, Le Crédit en Ligne st

Meyer goes on the attack for Garmin today.
He's soon joined by Kireyev.
Auber stay nicely in the pack, trying to keep themselves out of doing any work on the front.
More riders brisge across but they are brought back.
Another move goes at the top of the last climb but things explode.
Marzio Bruseghin manages to get a gap, Haddou and Mombaerts give chase on the downhill.
Bruseghin leads into the sprint, the Auber duo closing..... closing..... can they get him?
YES! Haddou first, Mombaerts second, a 1-2 for Auber and a morale boosting win.

2 Johan Mombaerts Auber 93 st
3 Marzio Bruseghin Lampre - N.G.C st |

Thanks
The peloton as it travels on the stage to Mont Faron.
The first attacks begin.
Here we see Chicchi and Usov, hidden is Alan Pérez.
Lots of riders attack for the climbing points.
With 45kms to go Ardila suddenly attacks but he sits up quickly.
Then Rodriguez has a dig.
Followed by former leader Scholz.
The break still working well together but the peloton is bearing down and they get caught.
Things remain together until just a few kilometres from the finish when Ardila leads the attacks, others respond....
But Ardila wins and takes the overall win too!

Dubois was back in the office again. He'd decided to pull the team out of the Tour du Haut Var and the Gran Premio di Lugano. The team would ride only the Beverbeek Classic before the MTN Giro del Capo. He was busy looking over the profiles of del Capo when his secretary entered. A letter had arrived by courier, Dubois sighed and opened it.
Many congratulations on the stage win at Tour Méditerranéen. You are probably no doubt going over the Giro del Capo, seeing if you can win there. An interesting scenario I'm sure you'll agree. I must be frank here, even if you find it a little harsh. You do all this work, organizing, overseeing training, making sure all the cogs are in synch. When Haddou won, no-one really gave a damn about your own involvement. Trust me, that's how it is, everyone recognizes the riders achievement, no-one pays attention to the tactics and thought behind it. Glory? Come on, management is never glorious. Keep going and maybe people will at least give you a little credit. Good luck.
Dubois was now intrigued, who was sending these messages? How did this person know that Dubois was studying the profiles of the Giro del Capo? But he acknowledged there was truth in what had been written. |
