Robert Gesink
12th of January
Last evening I had meeting with another great guy. This time it was Robert Gesink one of our best Stage racers who had very good last year. During our meeting I told him that team were counting on him and we all hoped that he ouldn´t fail us. Last year fiasko in Vuelta (11th place after disastrous first 2 eeks) can´t happen again. On the other hand. I assured him that he is future of Rabobank and I´d always believed in him.
Today I ill have to make quick meeting with Juanma Garate and catch my flight to my first race ever - La Tropicale Amissa Bongo.
last year successes:
2nd in Pro Tour Ranking
1st Tirreno Adriatico, GP Ouest Plouay,
3rd La Fleche Wallonne, L-B-L
this year expectations: win Vuelta Espana, Amstel Gold Race, podium place La Fleche Wallonne, L-B-L, GP Ouest Plouay, TOP 5 Pro Tour |

Juanma Garate
12th of January late night
I met with Juanma garate only in KLM meeting hall and in hurry explain him that this is propably his last season for Rabobank and he is going to be superdomestique during Paris-Nice, Dauphine Libere and maybe even Tour de France. Luckily I caught my flight in time so I was able to shake some nervousness. Tomorrow is my big day.
Last year achievements: 5th overall Tour de Pologne
This year expectation: good help to our team leader during mountain stages of Dauphine. |

Today was my first start and I blew it totally. First of all - I tried to send Nuyens to break and even so that he was very active he didn´t make it. And After that I slept during preparations trains for sprint. Therefore poor Brown and Leezer had to fight throught all guys and didn´t make even podium. Moreover - poor joachim fell and came last of all. I hope that tomorrow will be better day for me and also for team.
Nyuens in break
MTN lead the pack
situation 27km before finish
few moments before end of the break.
Offredo tried to attack just before finish but failed anyway
Jollet won sprint and took the lead...

13th of January
During this 6 days I will have meeting with all guys here first and after that I will return to alphabetical order. Today I met guy who is future of cycling - last year U-23 champion René Joachim. I was proud that he joined our team and made it clear that he should be nominated to Gent - Wevelgem and Eneco where he should learn everything from his colleagues. This diamond must be protected and will not allow to burn his talent
René Joachim
last year achievements:
U-23 World Champion
1st Grand Prix de Portugal, Giro delle Regioni, La Cote Picard
2nd Paris - Roubaix, Paris - Tours, Ronde Van Vlaanderen, ZLM Tour, Gran Premio della Liberazione
This year expectation: just training and learning.

Oh - my head. What have I done? I made myself drunk after yesterday disaster and wasn´t able to make today race. What a shame! Boss already called and after long discussion I suffered 1 week wage penalty. Lucky for me that Leezer made some bonus seconds.
Sebastian Langeveld
After race was finished I went for meeting with Sebastian Langeveld. Young star who made some good results last year. I told him that he should be leader in Tour down Under, Eneco and co-leader during Flanders. I had to looked extremely down because ha tapped my shoulder and said to me that mistakes happened and tha I shouldn´t worry so much. It is pure luck that I have such guy in team
Last year achievements:
3rd overall KBC- Driedaagse de Panne-Koksijde
3rd overall -Tour de Wallonie
This year expectations: TOP 10 Tour Down Under, Ronde van Vlaanderen, TOP 5 Eneco.

La Tropicale Amissa Bongo - stage 3 - 15th January
Today I´m prepared really well. So we will see how can I make it. Race started
french talent Bouet leads break - I decided to not chase him and his companions, wait for last 5 km and hope that AG2R take care of break
Bouet feels good today - he took 1st sprint. We didn´t like it because he is best from break and if they make it these seconds can make the difference in GC at last
Offredo joins break - we have still time. Calm down everyone.
Bouet takes even 2nd sprint - he look like very good today
Break seems to be done. Langeveld told me in radio that he feels great today. I told him to prepare for attack in last hill.
Break exploited that favourite waited for last hill and made quite distance again. I told Langeveld to be prepared attack earlier than we expected. Otherwise we are done
And LAngeveld attacks - "GOOOO. TEAR THEM APART!" - I´m roaring into radio
Di Gregorio counters. Can we make it?
Langeveld is going to pass Jegou - leader of break just 400m before finish!
And he made it! Langeveld won my second stage in field. Great... I am out words just now....
Tom Leezer is happy that his friend made it today... And all team as well...
Today stage was the last one for Duval. What could happened? He didn´t fall so maybe just tactical reasons

Tom leezer
After today stage - I met Tom Leezer with emotions. l hugged him and told him that he impressed me today as well and that he persuaded me that he deserved sprinter role during Tour down Under more than anyone else. I also told him that his devotion for Sebastian also impressed me and he could be sure that he were in my plans for next seasons.
Last year achievements:6th Campina Ronde van Het Groene Hart
This year expectations: 2 stage win during minor tours, at least one stage podium place during Pro Tour races. |

Leezer could be a great sprinter for the PT stage races or even for a GT.

Nick Nuyens
16th of January
My head... I decided to have meeting with Nick Nuyens today morning and I had an argument with him. I turned down his demands to be leader during Falnders classics and Eneco and he was quite furious about that! Only after long time we made provisional agreement about his possible captain role during Paris- Roubaix but only if Flecha wouldn´t be in form. Annoying bastard. Instead of demands he should take care of his own form...
Last year achievements:
Eneco - 1st overall, 1 stage win
Ronde Van Vlaanderen - 3rd place
This year expectations:TOP 5 Eneco, RvV, TOP 10 Paris - Roubaix |

La Tropicale Amissa Bongo - stage 4 - 16th January
For the first time we started the racer in yellow jersey. I didn´t want to lose it so I prepared something crazy today.
I sent Brown to break immediately to force other team to work in front
He was caught soon but I waited few kilometres and sent him again!
He was caught anyway
I think that this isn´t going to work. So i tell Van Winden to be prepared for attacks to counter them
and Lequatre attacks- van Winden counters as planned
Another attack this time by Taaramae - van Winden counters without problem
I tell Van Winden not to relay and just wait for opponents moves
just few km´s to finish - is Taaramae going to attack again?
Nope - they are swallowed by the pack... finish is close
Sprint begins - Leezer is prepare to follow Brown wheel.
and Leezer was perfectly lead out by Brown! Will he take it in the sprint?
Of course he win! Time for celebration - he takes stage win and yellow jersey from his friend Sebastian

La Tropicale Amissa Bongo - stage 5 - 17th January
After yesterday Leezer sprint victory I decided that I had to do everything to make another sprint finish with Tom as our leader. Also during my small "war counsel" with Sebastian he assured me that this would be the best way to make overall victory...
It is always nice to see our guy in yellow
Offredo tries to breakaway
Another break try - this time by Girardi
we are fully in control of the race - no problem for us
Leezer is prepared just behind green jersey holder - Clerc
And Leezer is coming for him
He is close!
And he just made it - 2nd stage victory for him - He already proved that he is future of Dutch sprinters

Dennis van Winden
After another stage win I went to meeting with Dennis in very good mood. He is another sign done by me from our continental team and I expect many great things in future from him. We talked with each other and decided that this year we should take lightly. So superdomestique during national championship for him, maybe he will participate on Tour de France - it depends on his form
Last year achievements:2nd overall Post Danmark Rundt
This year expectations: 1 stage victory or TOP 3 during Dutch TT championship |
