Yes, I know. But the thing is that Downing is not at all in great fitness. His fitness is like 55 points..

Stage 4

Todays stage started off with some early attacks, the attacks resulted in a breakaway group consisting of 5 riders.

The break was caught so it came down to a sprint once again. Downing took the wheel of Gregory Rast (Astana) and when the sprint started Russel had a great position.

Downing had nothing left in the tank for the sprint so he couldn't keep up with the best. In the last corner, Alessandro Ballan in the rainbow colours lead ahead of Mark Cavendish and Allan Davis.

Cavendish against Ballan at the line, who would win?

It's Cavendish!

Stage 5

It's here, the deciding stage, the Willunga hill! It will be very tough today, we can't expect anything from this stage.
As always a breakaway group.

They were cought just before the Willunga hill and right at the start of the hill, Luis Leon Sanchez decided to give it a try.

Many tried to counter and after a while a front group was created which included Van Summeren, Devolder, Fedrigo, Jufré, Roche, Mazzanti, Maaskant, Sanchez, Gerrans, Geslin and Ballan. At the same time, Downing was struggling in the pack, but he kept fighting and hung on over the hill.

But with 10 km to go, the group had splitted into pieces, left in front were Roche, Ballan, Geslin, Van Summeren, Jufré, Sanchez and Devolder.

They held a pretty good gap to the peleton and when the sprint started Nicolas Roche sprinted away from the rest of the group. But Ballan was fast to answer.

With 1km to go, Roche was still leading but Ballan was coming fast on the left.

But the Irish held Ballan behind and won todays important stage.

Russel was the only rider from Pinarello to finish in the pack and he lost around a minute to the favourites.

Russel is still in the top 10 at the 9th place, hopefully he can hold it on tomorrows stage.

Stage 6

Todays stage is the last one here in Australia. It's a criterium and it will probably end up in a sprint. But watch out for the crashes!
Nothing interesting happened before the last 10 km. Then a few riders crashed at the back of the pack. Cancellara and Hammond was two of them, but there wasn't any high positioners involved in the crash.
Allan Davis (Quick Step) won the stage.

Russel did his best in the sprint and finished 7th, a great result.

Downing lost two places in the GC and finished 11th overall, which is just great for a small team as Pinarello.
