As we are poor and don’t have enough money to spend in Monaco holidays like SN’s pcm daily squad we sent O’Grady and England and a walkie-talkie in a fishermen’s boat to the Australian championships. Hopefully they would return with more than kangaroos and boomerangs…
O’Grady was pointed as the 2nd favorite after Evans. Could he conquer something?
As the race started the crowd could see the monstrous amount of riders that constituted the huge Australian peloton
During the first 30km R. England struggled to show how good was is shape and he quickly disappeared from the peloton
There was a boring breakaway of two cyclists that didn’t last more than 20 km and the race only heated up with Evans’ attack with more than 50km to go
With the constant hills throughout all the circuit it became obvious that the peloton together couldn’t deal with Evans as his advantage raised to about 2’
O’Grady tried to help maintaining the pace…until Gerrans’ attack which appeared with 27km to go. With him went Cooke, Lloyd and … O’Grady!! They joined Sutherland who was in an intermediate position since he was part of the earlier break.
But the group wasn’t cooperating and the attacks were constant. At the last couple of laps Gerrans attacked again and this time he got advantage.
At the finish Evans didn’t celebrate…but we managed to collect a picture from inside the supporter car!!!
…Seconded by Gerrans…
…While the exhausted O’Grady was only 5th after Sutherland and Cooke
Australian Championships
1st – Cadel Evans (SIL)
2nd – Simon Gerrans (C.A)
5th – Stuart O’Grady (MAI)
48th (Last Place) – Richard England (MAI)

Mid January – Tour Down Under
This should be considered one of the most beautiful races of the season if my team wasn’t in it… even better would be if it wasn’t a ProTour race. Two major concerns that join another one – this is a terribly boring race for a team without a sprinter…or money to buy one.
The ending of the stages always resulted in a massive sprint, except for stage 5 which had a small hill that could work for Vicioso…
…but it didn’t (lousy Spaniard!)
Nuyens won it, beating Gasparotto by 2 seconds and Gusiev by 13, both in stage 5 and in the GC
Teams Results: International Embarrassment

February
I’ll skip The Tour of Langkawi because it is a one-week stage-race for sprinters and I don’t have the patience to see my sprinters out of the top 15 since they can’t compete with Booonens or Hushovds.
The team headed out to Spain to start with a group of races that take place in "Nuestros Hermanos" country: Challenge Vuelta a Mallorca, Vuelta Ciclista a Andalucia, Vuelta a la Comunitat Valenciana and Vuelta a Murcia. Hopefully they’ll come as a good preparation for Paris-Nice and Tirreno-Adriatico. Last year we were able to finish top 5 in all of them and conquer Vuelta a Andalucia.
Let’s see what we can do in 09...

If you can compete with those Boonens and Hushovds do something so their test be positive

you've got a good point there alexkr00 but I prefer to gamble in more hilly (=exciting) races

Volta Ciclista a Mallorca
The Mediterranean Isles were nice to us last year with 4th and 5th place, so this year we start as potential candidates. As we are not disciplined at all we’ll just take Contador’s methods of training and enjoy the sun of Baleares Islands’ beaches. Vicioso’s season begins here as well as Zaballa’s. One only question remains: did they bring enough of ‘it’ to win the race??
Our team:
1st Stage (simmed)
1st – Mark Cavendish THR
2nd – André Greipel THR +0
3rd – Paolo Bettini THR +0
4th – Iñaki Isasi EUS +0
5th – Bruno Lima SLB +0
GC
1st – Mark Cavendish THR
2nd – André Greipel THR +8s
3rd – Paolo Bettini THR +12s
4th – Iñaki Isasi EUS +20s
5th – Bruno Lima SLB +20s
