Wait....Sestriére, not Sestriere. So, the french side of the climb? that would mean a big detour around some usual Tour climbs. That only ever happens every 4 or 5 years in the Giro.
you're right, I had the names of those climbs somewhere.... gimme a minute
edit: here you go:
Colle della Maddalena (1996 m), Col de Vars (2108 m), Col d’Izoard (2360 m), Col de Montgènevre (1854 m) and of course Sestrière (2033 m)
Those are the climbs of that stage?
The riders will die
Do you have any other info on other stages? |

you could use google translate
anyway, finishes on San Martino di Castrozza (1450 m) and Alpe di Siusi (1844 m hoogte, avarage 8.2%), one stage over the parcours of the classic Milano - Torino
and in the last week another 3 mountaintop finishes De Monte Petrano (1100 m), Block Haus (2142 m, Eddy Merckx' base for first giro victory) and the Vesuvius (1281 m) |

Let's put it this way: I'm looking at the queen stage and I see 5 climbs. 2 of them are always rated HC, 2 fluctuate between cat. 1 and HC and the other is cat. 1. It's insane.
Blockhaus is....well, you see that monster called Maieletta? (aka Passo Lanciano). The blockhaus is when you keep going at the "top" of the Maieletta....unless it's from a different, lesser used (and HARDER) side. There's 3 possible sides, we'll see.
Alpe di Siusi demands respect, the rest of the climbs are meh. Vesuvius I don't know, but I read it's not really steep at all.
We'll see when the stage profiles come around.
The Milano-Torino stage will be interesting if the course is the same as the classic (Superga hill)

Partly revealed unofficial Giro route is way much better that the tour. The Tour has only 1 real mountain stage, the one with 5 climbs but no uphill finish, the 3 uphill finishes are almost flat until the last climb . Add the reduced ITT kms, probably the Vuelta will be better. |

On the 17th, the Vuelta route will be unveiled.
There's talk of the Xorret de Cati being included!

So tonight, the Giro's route will be presented.
As we discussed above, the route's been leaked a long time ago, but we'll get confirmation today, plus we'll know what we didn't know at the time. Plus we'll know what changes they've made since the leaked route.
It's live on RAI, for anyone wanting to watch

I hope they have some killer climbs like the zoncalon. With a top end field like that its going to be one hell of a race! |

I really hope this 60k TT is just a rumour.
And if they have the Zonc again, it should be at the end of a day's climbing. Then it might really be decisive. But, I don't think they've any plans to put it in this year. |

I think that the giro will have enough of decisive climbs this year, even without the Zoncolan or Mortirolo for that matter:

Reduced TT kms is good, it means people will really go for it in the mountains and TTs are boring anyway, just a rider going by, then another, then another. |

No Zonc this year, and there will be a 61 km hilly TT, from Sestri Levante to Riomaggiore.
