Think the sprint rankings are right on.
I think cobbles will be very interesting with so many teams just not trying. On one hand the field seems pretty weak and if someone had really focused on that terrain perhaps they could have gone crazy like Crabbe. On the other hand there aren't that many races for cobblers at C2 and the points could be split across many iffy riders and the PCT boys could steal a fair amount.
I tend to think the rankings may undervalue the deeper cobbled teams like Air New Zealand, BWT and Caja versus Colombini and Tajford who only have one rider (I guess two for Colombini if Saber rides the cobbles a lot).

Now we run to the hills for the penultimate category:
Pts | The Moon | Rwanda | Greece | Mexico | Indonesia | 12 | McCormick Pro Cycling | Tafjord Kraft | Tafjord Kraft | McCormick Pro Cycling | Tafjord Kraft | 10 | BNZ-Superhero Racing | BNZ-Superhero Racing | Jura GIANTS | Jura GIANTS | McCormick Pro Cycling | 8 | Tafjord Kraft | Jura GIANTS | Le Creuset | BNZ-Superhero Racing | Jura GIANTS | 7 | Jura GIANTS | McCormick Pro Cycling | McCormick Pro Cycling | Tafjord Kraft | Le Creuset | 6 | Le Creuset | Le Creuset | BNZ-Superhero Racing | Colombini-Adler Aalterpaint | BNZ-Superhero Racing | 5 | Colombini-Adler Aalterpaint | Pas Normal Studios - Mikkeller | Colombini-Adler Aalterpaint | Caja Rural Cycling Team | Tryg - Gobik | 4 | Caja Rural Cycling Team | Caja Rural Cycling Team | Tryg - Gobik | Le Creuset | Bianchi - Panerai | 3 | BWT Hyundai N Cycling | Colombini-Adler Aalterpaint | Caja Rural Cycling Team | Tryg - Gobik | Caja Rural Cycling Team | 2 | Tryg - Gobik | Bianchi - Panerai | Bianchi - Panerai | BWT Hyundai N Cycling | BWT Hyundai N Cycling | 1 | Pas Normal Studios - Mikkeller | BWT Hyundai N Cycling | Pas Normal Studios - Mikkeller | Bianchi - Panerai | Pas Normal Studios - Mikkeller |
The juries are almost unanimous in which teams deserve points for the hillier terrain, as only eleven teams make it into the top tens, and each is featured in at least four of those. This also means we got to hear "I'm sorry, zero points" seven times unfortunately.
At the top of the leaderboard we find Tafjord Kraft with three maximum scores, thanks to Edvald Boasson Hagen. Even if it's been a long time since he had a teenage life, and his results from last year weren't that great, he remains a legend. They also have a younger apprentice in Dyrnes to battle for the win. The top marks from the other two jurors went to McCormick, with number fourteen of last season Boswell flying the flag once more.
Two ten-pointers each for Jura and BNZ, though the former with two eight-pointers compared to one for the latter edges ahead for third. Jura bring back Moscon, who finished ninth in the standings back in 2020, and has no reason not to shine once more. Ten places behind him that year was BNZ's leader Edmondson, who is looking to bounce back after a weaker year together with partners in crime Watson.
Le Creuset pulls in good points from everyone, but only Greece sees them as a top three team. Teuns is a rider who perhaps likes the highest heights more than the leaders from other teams, so he'll definitely have opportunities for big points. Caja Rural is consistently ranked between sixth and eighth, which is expected to be Quevedo's results throughout the season. Not a top favorite but not mister nobody either.
Now for the five teams who only convinced four juries. Colombini (Betancourt) misses out on points from Indonesia despite scoring up to five or six points with the others. Tryg (Hoelgaard/Schlegel) scores 5-4-3-2-0, the five coming from Indonesia and the zero coming from Rwanda. Bianchi (Le Roux/Zordan) is not appreciated enough by the Moon and BWT Hyundai (Pernsteiner/Robov) misses out in Greece. Pas Normal Studios (Vogt) is quite favored by Rwanda, giving them five points, while the other juries award them only one point and Mexico even nothing.
Points | Team | 51 | Tafjord Kraft | 48 | McCormick Pro Cycling | 43 | Jura GIANTS | 40 | BNZ-Superhero Racing | 31 | Le Creuset | 19 | Caja Rural Cycling Team | 19 | Colombini-Adler Aalterpaint | 14 | Tryg - Gobik | 9 | Bianchi - Panerai | 8 | BWT Hyundai N Cycling | 8 | Pas Normal Studios - Mikkeller |

Very interesting but get to the Time Trials !
Seriously though very interesting to see the rankings on this basis. Thought McKenna might be worth a point or two in the hills but that discipline really is packed.

Without naming anyone in specific (but MacC), people have been asking for the final category, time trials! Let's not waste any more time and show you the judges' points.
Pts | The Moon | Rwanda | Greece | Mexico | Indonesia | 12 | Jura GIANTS | Jura GIANTS | Jura GIANTS | Jura GIANTS | BWT Hyundai N Cycling | 10 | BWT Hyundai N Cycling | BWT Hyundai N Cycling | BWT Hyundai N Cycling | BWT Hyundai N Cycling | Jura GIANTS | 8 | Glanbia | Glanbia | BNZ-Superhero Racing | Oktal Pharma - TotalTV | Glanbia | 7 | Oktal Pharma - TotalTV | Oktal Pharma - TotalTV | Oktal Pharma - TotalTV | Glanbia | Oktal Pharma - TotalTV | 6 | BNZ-Superhero Racing | BNZ-Superhero Racing | Glanbia | BNZ-Superhero Racing | BNZ-Superhero Racing | 5 | Tryg - Gobik | Tryg - Gobik | Caja Rural Cycling Team | Staffbase - BHP | McCormick Pro Cycling | 4 | Caja Rural Cycling Team | Podium Ambition | Tryg - Gobik | Tryg - Gobik | Tryg - Gobik | 3 | McCormick Pro Cycling | Caja Rural Cycling Team | McCormick Pro Cycling | Bordeaux Métropole - Euskotren | Bordeaux Métropole - Euskotren | 2 | Bordeaux Métropole - Euskotren | McCormick Pro Cycling | Bonduelle - Eesti Energia | Mccormick Pro Cycling | Bonduelle - Eesti Energia | 1 | Bonduelle - Eesti Energia | Bordeaux Métropole - Euskotren | Air New Zealand p/b Pirelli | Podium Ambition | Air New Zealand p/b Pirelli |
An almost unanimous vote of twelve points puts Jura Giants at the top of the time trial table. Rekita, Marchewka and climbers such as Stüssi and Mäder make sure they finish higher than everyone else, with only BWT Hyundai able to snatch away twelve points once, mainly thanks to strong hybrids such as Brändle and Ahmad Zamri.
Below the dominant top-2 it is Glanbia with the most consistent scoring to finish third here, as their TTT depth is once again great for a CT team, with leaders such as Oram, Downey, Cruz and Craddock. Just below them is new team Oktal Pharma, as Sterobo should be a great CT rider, and they also have Andersen and Archibald. The top-5 is completed by BNZ then, led by the strong Mongolian Erdenebat, but also with hybrid Roe in the team.
Tryg manages to collect 22 points as well, mainly thanks to Frison. A solid depth completed by Warbasse also gives McCormick fifteen points in this round, whereas Balloni is the main time trialist scoring something for Caja Rural. Minor points go to Bordeaux (Mottin), Bonduelle (Kochetkov), Podium Ambition (Vanderpool), Staffbase (Predatsch) and Air New Zealand (Archbold).
Points | Team | 58 | Jura GIANTS | 52 | BWT Hyundai N Cycling | 37 | Glanbia | 36 | Oktal Pharma - TotalTV | 32 | BNZ-Superhero Racing | 22 | Tryg - Gobik | 15 | McCormick Pro Cycling | 12 | Caja Rural Cycling Team | 9 | Bordeaux Métropole - Euskotren | 5 | Bonduelle - Eesti Energia | 5 | Podium Ambition | 5 | Staffbase - BHP | 2 | Air New Zealand p/b Pirelli |
That's all categories sorted! Later today will come a final ranking, adding up all five of them

4pts from Rwanda, the world has gone mad! That alone makes the training spend worthwhile on Vanderpool!

As expected, our main strengths are climbing and TTing, where we top the list. 3rd on the hills sounds good as well, although teams with better depth might outscore us - and Moscon's well-known lack of top-speed and rather low acceleration could also cost us some points there.
Happy to get a couple of points in sprints, although we clearly won't score anything from pure sprinter races - we simply won't participate. And what's that cobbles thing again?

There must be something wrong I guess, Switzerland can't realistically win an ESC-like competition
Apparently we should be dominating the division, which I honestly have some doubts about. I guess we'll have a fair chance of winning this year's CT league, indeed, but probably not by that big of a margin. I mean, Stüssi + Moscon + Rekita vs. Warbasse + Boswell + Keough doesn't look that clear-cut. OK, I'll agree that we've got quite some advantage in the mountain races, as most C2 stage races contain a TTT (which on the other hand could put Glanbia far higher up than predicted), but McCormick has far more depth in the mountains.
According to this prediction, it seems to be a very close race for promotion though, with 2nd through 6th separated by just 10 points - while there are 11 points between 6th and 7th. I do think that the promotion spots are likely to be distributed among the first 7 teams (Tafjord were ranked pretty high by other predictions), while not completely ruling out Air New Zealand, Caja Rural or - I know I'm repeating myself - Glanbia, if their TTT train brings them as many points I suspect it might (and if their sprinters overperform as much as mine did 2 years ago ^^).
We'll see, in any case I'm glad the season is finally about to start - and it's a good thing as well that all CT teams received some points
Thanks a lot for doing this to Nemo, SotD, Eden, cunego and Marco!

Great efforts, what a fun way of enjoying a CT preview! And the final predictions looks pretty good imo.

Thanks all, can't complain about 2nd, although the gap to 7th isn't great and I agree with Fab given the amount of TTs in C2 stage races Glanbia has upside as well.
Looking forward to the season.

Top 3 isn’t bad. I’d be very happy with that! Hopefully we can deliver. Going to be a very tough and interesting season!

Congrats Fabianski! By the rules of the competition, you have to host next year's Continental Division Songfestival.
Thanks Nemolito for involving me in this, I hope the puns weren't too cringe. Have a great season everyone!

I guess that if I've to choose a prediction, I'll go for this one, even though we're not in the top 10 yet.
But then, that suppose a good planning, and I guess mine was terrible
Congrats to the winner, happy to come back in Switzerland next year, and thanks to everyone for the contest. |
