TOUR DOWN UNDER STAGE 4
Mengin asks Proni to relay before the mountain sprint
Proni takes the mountain points and increases his lead with 4 new points!
The two brakaway companions Cañada and Galdos before an intermediate sprint
When I talked to Weylandt from the team car he said he doubted he had the legs to win the sprint, but I decided to let him have a go because Viganò suffered a lot more than Wouter. He had a good position when the sprint opened.
Close between the five in front
Just like he said, he didn't have the legs to beat Ciolek and he also lost the 4th place to Eisel. He was furious after the race.

TOUR OF QUATAR STAGE 1
This stage is a 12 km long TTT, which we should do well in because we have a few decent TT'ers.
Silence-Lotto immediately sets a good time...
Cofidis follows up with the second best time 11 seconds behind Silence.
Only Devolder was feeling somewhat fine today and we ended up on a humiliating 37 seconds behind Silence-Lotto.
But we weren't the only team dissapointing today. Here is Garmin with both Zabriskie and Millar in the squad.
Team CSC finishes 2 seconds behind Silence-Lotto and takes the second place in front of Cofidis.

TOUR DOWN UNDER STAGE 5
We enter this stage with no hopes for winning at all, we didn't bring any decent climbers for the hill except for Proni who has used much more energy than the other favourites by going for the KOM jersey, I doubt he would have posed any threat even if he had recovered from all the other stages.
The brakeaway cruising through a small town.
Nothing of significance happened on the hill, but in the descent Ciolek tried to close RodrÃguez's gap.
RodrÃguez lost a few meters to Kirk O'Bee and Bradley McGee, and suddenly he had Ciolek and Dean on his wheel.
Having got ten meters on the others or so, O'Bee slows down thinking he can cruise over the finish line in triumph.
Before he realises his mistake RodrÃguez is by his side and he can not answer because of the lack of momentum.
He fell for the same mistake that Dion made when he himself was the one that won the stage!

TOUR OF QATAR STAGE 2
As every stage in the Tour of Qatar this stage is flat, no hill or even a speed bubmp whatsoever. Only problem might be extreme winds that sometimes are a huge problem riding here.
Nothing happened early in the race and the wind became a factor as predicted, sometimes it hit 65 m/s!
Boonen sat in a group that soon got split by the wind and he was out of the question for a win. Therefore I told the riders to set up a sprint train for Poalo, but because of the wind it was impossible!
And worst of all, Robert Hunter has used the strong winds to his advantage and has opened a huge gap to the others.
No one was able to close the gap and he rolls over the line 1'09 minutes in front of Sandy Casar and Huub Duyn.
Fighting for the 4th place Gavazzi beats Balducci with just a few centimeters!
Boonen charges up and closes the gap so he doesn't loose any time to the peleton.

TOUR DOWN UNDER STAGE 6
Flat stage today. There shouldn't be any problems, althought there is going to be some strong winds acording to the weather forecast.
As always some hopefuls tries to win by going in a breakaway early in the morning.
Vaitkus crashes two times today. Here helped by a neutral help car the second time he hit the ground.
Cancellara and Nicki Sørensen tries to get up to the brakeaway to gain time on the other favourites after a dissapointing display here in Australia.
7,3 km left to the line and 42(!) riders hits the tarmac. It's complete caos in the peleton and as a result Weylandt loses Julian Deans wheel!
The sprint is all messed up because of the crash and Wouter is finding himself behind the others.
Dean absolutely crushes the opposition! I am sure that Wouter whould have beat him if he had managed to stay at his wheel.

Wouter has been very unlucky loosing the points jersey, and not getting the stage win he was here after, he lacks confidence now after the race here in Australia and we agreed that he would race the GP Costa degli Etruschi and going for a stage win in the Challange Vuelta a Mallorca.
Proni on the other side did great winning the KOM jersey and the sponsors have already expressed how happy they are with his performance. |

TOUR OF QATAR STAGE 3
This stage should be as the the last one, lots of wind and high temperatures the whole way to the finish line, in other words: a nightmare!
Morning brakeaway... These guys are crazy going alone in this wind.
When the brakeway was reeled in I told the riders to put pressure on Hunter by setting a blistering pace and using the wind to our advantage he was suddenly caught on the wrong side of the split the same way Boonen was yesterday! Then Steven De Jongh tried to go solo.
After De Jongh was reeled in, four riders had a go. They got 56 seconds on the rest.
Taking the unorthodox approach I told Boonen to close the gap himself and just forget about the sprint. And he did, without any problems he rides up to the four others and then sets a pace that none of them had a chance to follow up with.
Here's "Tornado" Tom taking our first win of the season!
Hunter finishing along with Stijn 1'09 minutes behind Tom.

TOUR OF QATAR - STAGE 4
Today it was much less wind than the other stage and the riders were much more motivated today than the earlier stages.
Brakeaway
Nothing of significance happens until the last kilometers when the pack starts to hit top speed. Here Pelánek reeled in after a try to go solo.
Stijn said he was feeling terrible today, but I still put him up as lead out man.
With Stijn not creating any advantage for Tom, whe had a terrible position when the sprint opened. Hunter opens the sprint way yo early and Balducci wins easily, but Boonen is still beat by Hunter because of the distance he was behind.

TOUR OF QATAR - STAGE 6
Today the wind is strong and the stage flat, nothing unusual then!
Brakeaway containing Willems, Caucchioli, Bono, Pagoto and Arekeev
The train is well organised and it looks like Tom will take the stage if nothing happens.
Then, Tom looses Poalo's wheel and he is a long way back.
He sprints his way up to Poalo and Richeze, but when he is going to pass Richeze he is blocked and he gives up knowing he hasnt got enough time to pass him.
Richeze wins the last stage here in Qatar!

A kind of dissapointing performance by Boonen here in Qatar because he should win every stage here against these sprinters. At least he won the points jersey, and his performance at stage 3 was good too. |

"Dude", no offense, but how is it possible to misspell "Paolo" every single time?
