Being a Dane seeing Skelmose perform this well is nice. I knew he is quite good, but this is clearly his best race to date.
I can understand, also nice to see some young Belgians doing well so far. Van Gils winning the Saudi Tour, De Lie winning the Trofeo Palma, Vandenabeele and Van Wilder doing nice in Provence and Oman GC, etc.
Speaking about young Danes, nice win by Hindsgaul as well in Antalya. UNO-X already with five wins as well so far, not bad at all.
Dont forget Adne Holter who set up Hindsgaul perfectly.

Ganna was mightily impressive. I also really enjoyed Gebre doing well!
Ganna was indeed impressive, but it did not serve him well changing bikes on the side of the road because he was disqualified.
Uno-X is on fire. They already were a very interesting team to watch but they took it up a notch this season.
This start of the season Xabier Azparren is certainly not idle. I think that from his 10-11 days of racing he was on the breakaway on half of them.

Arkea are certainly serious of getting that WT spot for next year. I had no idea who this Kevin Vauquelin was but he is riding an impressive Tour of Oman only on his first month as a pro too. |

This new Clasica Jaen Paraiso, which is live on GCN btw. is really interesting.
Lots of climbing and most on Strade Bianche typical gravel roads leading to weird mixed early form groups, e.g. Connor Swift and Thibault Ferrasse outperforming Buchmann/M.A. Lopez.
Worth tuning in for the final 20km. |

I personally loved Clásica Jaén! It was the type of race I enjoy quite a lot and I hope it only grows from now on. That bridge close to the finish was quite an interesting and beautiful feature.
It was also a very tough race since only 44 riders finished it out of 117.

Cheeky leadout from Richeze today. I'm not sure if he intentionally blocked Cavendish, but it made the organizers relegate him today.

Is it cycling or bull-fighting?

Wanted to comment on the great racing that the hilly terrain in Andalucia is providing. Quite tight finishes with unexpected winners. Magnus Sheffield - keeping an eye out for him, despite being just 19 years old, it’s not everyday you put your name among the Empire’s victory list at that age. |

I was looking forward to the debut of John Jimenez Retana in Spain with Aluminios Cortizo. Sadly, in the first stage of Memorial Manuel Sanroma he fell and it looks like he suffered a broken clavicle.

Interesting. Groenewegen was the fastest one in the modern sprinters champioship but Philipsen played it like a Groenewegen and won well deserved. Alpecin does so well with leadouts these days.

It was lovely to watch Nairo Quintana in his first 2 races of this year. He seems to be hungry for results. One can only hope he could mount a challenge for a Grand Tour, but I am keeping my hopes and expectations tempered.

I think he's passed it as a GT contender. Can't TT for a start. Probably better off stage hunting and going for KOM because he is still capable of putting together a very good stage in the Mountains.
Only problem is Arkea seem to be intent on promotion to the World Tour this season and they might prefer him to slog around for 3 weeks and finish 9th in the overall standings rather than win a couple of stages and a jersey.

You are absolutely right, but such a scenario would still be fun in my opinion. Like you said I think stage hunting would be better for him, but let's see what Arkea has in mind for the GTs.

Didn't they just voluntarily skip the Giro? Doesn't sound like a smart move if you're trying to promote.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

I thought they skipped the Giro expressly to try to get more points elsewhere. Probably think they haven't got much hope of scoring points at the Giro so their riders would be better off going to other races throughout May.

Yeah but they got so many sprinters (Bouhanni, Hofstetter, Capiot, McLay, maybe one more I'm forgetting), it would be worth it just to get some stage points. There are no other WT races at that time either, so I don't really get why they're not going.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Well stage points in GT are not really offering many points and they probably wanna keep them fresh. I guess thay'd score more at 5 Jours du Dunquerque than at the whole Giro. And they race a lot atm.

You hate to see it. Though I really enjoyed riders like Ganna and especially Leknessund doing really well.

Thought exactly the same.
Haven`t heard a lot of him before but he was really impressive today. Not only working for Yates a lot but hanging on the group all the time and even attacking in the final kilomter preparing all the small splits.
Really an interesting rider to follow clearly. In especially with Ineos you kind of need to show yourself to go for your own chances in such packed squad already. |
