Pretty much.
In other news: A poll on a danish website says that 1800 (out of 10000) thinks the Earth will be doomed because of this experiment.

In any case, it's time to make those religious idiots shut up instead of trying to scare people. On the other hand, that's their job, so I understand why they are doing it - I'm just annoyed by it too. |

2012 according to the Mayans plus a bucketload of coincidences of huge proportions with the alignment of the galaxy, the earth, the earth's magnetic fields and a bucketload of other stuff, that by a huge coincidence all fall on 2012 approximately on the same day.
The day the Mayans have as the end of their calendar.

Not the end of their calendar Isso. The end of another 12.000 year cycle
It's a generic missassumption their calender ends that day |

I know how it goes, but it IS the end of the calendar
They predicted eclipses, moon phases, etc. for thousands of years, until that day. No more after 2012. All of it ceases. The calendar simply has not been marked by them after that date.
It's just that people tend to go "ZOMG end of calendar = end of world" while in reality it represents rebirth.
There's actually a pretty good chance that the magnetic poles of earth will flip in late 2012. Meaning compasses will point south.
That would be pretty cool.

That's the geographical north, and it'll still be the geographical north
It's like this, the compass points to the magnetic SOUTH, which is in northern canada, so a bit close to the north geographic pole. They'll continue pointing to the magnetic south, that will switch with the magnetic north, so geographic north and south will be unchanged.
The only thing that matters is really that anything that has a compass will start pointing south

Indeed. No one knows exactly why the calendar ends, there are only theories .

sit down shut up and put your seat belt back on. I'll let you know when we're dead.

Didn't the Mayans just get bored, I would have gotten bored after working out 800 years worth of eclipses.
