We definitely need a sarcasm smiley...
Most reports about "7" said it was not a brand new OS, more like a Vista #2, but definitely a good OS, whereas Vista was a major disappointment. |

I was actually being honest. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about Vista. It's better than XP in my opinion and that's all I expected of it...

Should I be going for Vista 32-bit or 64-bit?

Why not wait for Windows 7?
Otherwise, 64 bit |

Windows 7 Beta - Lol enjoy the lack of being able to not use any programs unless they are digitally signed. |

My main reason for asking is i'm wondering whether older games (specifically Football Manager 2008, Medieval 2: Total War) will actually work on 64 bit vista?

I haven't had any problems with Vista Ultimate either - great in that you can change the OS language.
In terms of 64 bit, I think the number of app's made specifically to take advantage of it are still pretty limited...
EDIT - No problem for me with the games you mentioned in the 32 bit version.

There shouldn't be any problems with it, but if you do have problems, they are usually already solved, e.g.:
