Astana
The Team
The capital of Kazakhstan. The sponsor is a consortium of mainly oil companies put together by the government. Fondly and in no way patronisingly referred to as Team Borat.
Past + Recent controversies
Never started last due to most of the team being kicked out having connections with Puerto. This also involved Alan Davis who is now with Discovery.
Astana have never fallen foul of the police or testers, but their giro leader Mazzoleni is currently getting heat from an oil-for-drugs investigation. Nothing has been proved but fortunately won’t be hearing from it at this years TDF he's not starting! They are even lucky to get in this year; the wild card could have been taken by any of the Conti Teams.
Budget
Astana have enough money to film Borat II, £8.1m and the rest!
The boss
… Walter Godefroot, got some experience should be able to prove something this year.
Team Leader
The hot favourite for this year Alexandre Vinokourov, will he dominate the tour this year, or will he do what he did last he entered have a really bad day, maybe not because this time the not a turbo charged Ski lift on the front! He's already won a Grand Tour the Vuelta beating Spanish star Valverde. He feels that this year is the last year for the Tour and he defiantly wants to go out with bang. (No hes not retiring)
Wild Man of The Team
Kloden. Full stop. Mr 2nd if anyone is concerned. A good time-triallist but lacks consistency. He's had a second and maybe due another if “Landope” is found guilty. He left T-Mobile after a hissy fit over pay and status. Probably the best stage racer of the spring but will always will be No2.
Andrey Kashechkin the talent that’s a former National champion, won a few decent mountain stages, has proved himself in Time Trials but lacks the overall power of the other favourites. He will be a great help to Vino and it’s probably a decent bet that he will win a stage.
They’ll be happy with
Overall victory with Vino

actually, last year the UCI received a letter from the Guardia Civil stating that Allan Davis and Sérgio Paulinho (along with someone else from another team that I can't remember) were NOT involved as initially reported. this cleared both to ride immediately.

Savoldeli isn't such a climber he's more of a prologue TT and the best downhiller of the world, he has shown in the last giro and tour that he's not capable of sticking with the best climbers. I don't know how he got that lucky to win 2 giro's... |

Always need to team a guy who can bull..in mountains with high tempo . Savoldelli is good enough for that.. He should have rank 33% team mate. He doesn't suppose to be in front group in the finish.

Yeh, but good news ive got the day off after coming back from hospital so si should maybe be 4/5 throught at end of day.

Yes i know ihe can TT and hes best Down Hill rider in the world but theres only one reason why hes downhills on his own - Thats because he climbs to the top all out and gets droped slighty. I put him under climbers because he can climb not to make him look like an idiot! |

He may be a bit fatuiged from the Giro and Dauphine. Plus CSC have been chasing down the breaks for Cancellara. He's only here as a helper so no need to worry.

yes, he's done the Giro and the Dauphine. considering that, I have no idea why he's at the tour. it's insane and only natural that he's dead tired.
plus, he's been doing a lot of work to protect the jersey. |

If he can help out Schleck and Sastre a little in the mountains he will have done his job. Its Domestique Dave for this year's tour.
