we were just discussing Bos because he's turning to the road in a year's time.
And because he is faster than hell |

up until now track sprinters haven't done so well on the road. the only ones I can remember are Zabel and Ekimov. Galvez won a few medium-sized races.
who knows if Bos will be any different.?

- Freire when the course has been hard, hilly
- Petacchi when the sprint is very organized.
- McEwen when it's disorganized or downright dangerous (90ΒΊ turns, etc.)
- Boonen when the speed is already very high when starting the sprint
- Hushovd into a headwind or when forced to go from a LOOOONG way out.
- me when the last bus is about to leave and I'm running late.
if you're just thinking about top speed, Petacchi once did 64km/h in a Giro stage. I think that's the highest.
McEwen and Freire are not so much about top speed but they have a mighty initial kick (read: acceleration). especially Freire.
of course this will all be a moot point once the 2008 summer olympics end and Theo Bos turns to road cycling
Fast Freddy Rodriguez did a 77km/h sprint at the tour de Georgia this year. |

scratch what I said about 64 then.
by the way, 77 is amazingly high. was it downhill or with tailwind or something?

Has any rider ever go for 80++ kmph in the history?
Yes, I think we should see the growth of Theo Bos. He's fast B) |

Most likely a bit of both. Stage 6 i think. I believe the finale was a hilly lap.
EDIT: I found a video on youtube " a series of short steep hills in the final kilometer" and "the final 700 meters were coming off ne of the hills" and he got in with the right train.

Well, not to compare myself with these guys but I did record about 72km/h in a local club sprint once, the sprint normally starts at the base of a slight downhill so it was certainly "assisted".
I'm not trying to say I'm a fast sprinter (because I'm not) but my thinking is if I can manage that, the pros would surely be clocking up 70-80km/h regularly on the flat! Especially Robbie McEwen in full flight! (yes I'm an Aussie)
As for the world's fastest sprinters? I think almost noone can match Robbie's acceleration, Freire on his day is nearly impossible to beat (see this year's Milan-San Remo), Pettachi still has his speed, Hushovd is best over a long sprint and Boonen can beat the best, he's just much better in the classics. Allan Davis is showing some promise too.
At least that's what I think. |

70-80km/h is to much..in trek they reach 70..maybe little bit over that. In regular road race sprint top speed is like 60-65 km/h.

McEwen is undoubtebly the fastest sprinter in the world in my eyes, followed by Freire and Cavendish (i did it again)
the greatest sprinter of all time has to be Cipo, really doesn't it
and i'm very sorry guys but i really doubt Bos will be any good on the road (feel free to have a go at me if he is good) |

I don't think that anyone can dispute that McEwen is the one who can best combine an outstanding initial kick (bettered only by Freire) with a top speed that isn't that far from Petacchi's and is almost as good as Bennati's.
as for being the outright best...that's always debatable no matter who it is we're talking about
I will add that I find amazing his ability to position himself brilliantly with little or no effort.

you're entitled to your opinion, but may I ask why?

well people that convert from track to road don't always perform as they did, i think you've managed to name 3 cyclists that have benn good from converting, well how many others have tried and failed
not that i'm saying this means Bos will certainly fail, but Wiggins for example is a world champion on track, yet he has only managed to gather 5 wins in 5 years on the road
so all i'm saying is that the riders that transfer between the two classes don't generally have a good time, and i hope that Bos is different to provide some entertainment but for some reason i just don't see it, sorry |

Cavendish is still young in a few years we'll see him beat McEwen(if the aussie doesn't retire ). Freire is a very good sprinter too. Hushovd and Boonen seem to get weaker at sprints.
Edit: Oh yeah and Pettachi and Zabel are good too, I really didn't expect Pettachi to win so many stages in this years giro because he had that accident in last years giro.

the thing about Wiggins is he is not someone who can do anything of use on the road. pursuit champions can win prologues, and that's it.
Bos is fabulous on a sprint. that's his track specialty. and a road sprint is over the same distance, so with time, training and experience, I believe Rabobank will have a real gem there

Its just the surviving and making it to the sprint that will be the original hard part for Bos, after all he's not used to riding 100+km before sprinting.

the resistance I don't think will be that hard. the biggest problem might be the climbs.
and by the way, I love your "just"
