PN was fantastic and TA was even better Pfft
The classics are also going more than decent Smile

I don't mind that you don't include profiles. The only thing I miss is the team selection for the races, but not a big deal at all.

Great story so far!!!

cunego59
@VoetsT: Thank you for the feedback, too!

I edited the last post with TA and MSR to include icons to signify the type of stage and I included team selections as well. That's pretty simple, I just hadn't thought of that. Let me know what you think and if it works for you as readers I'll include both going forward (and probably edit them in for the other previous posts).

VoetsT
That's a great improvement Grin

cunego59
Glad to hear it! I'll keep it that way, then.

So ... This race had six stages that ended in downhill or flat finishes after several difficult hills. One was won by a breakaway, one by a late attack from a favorite and the other FOUR by Guillaume Martin. He really established himself as the best finisher among the top pucheurs and climbers, even after a scary crash on stage 4 – not least thanks to fantastic lead-outs by an equally quick Jesús Herrada, who was absolutely vital. It’s no coincidence that the two stages in which Guillaume didn’t win the bunch sprint were those in which Jesús fell behind and wasn’t there to guide him.

Despite losing some time on the sole mountain stage, the bonus seconds were enough to vault him to another podium finish, the third in a row – all three stage races were won by Geraint Thomas, who’s having a fantastic season so far. Of course, with four stage wins also comes the points jersey, which is another nice addition.

Guillaume’s season now pauses until he starts his Tour de France preparation. Jesús Herrada takes over as the leader in the Basque Country and the Ardennes. But there’re also a couple of cobblestone classics in between all of that …

Martin for Tour de France win Pfft Pfft .
Cycling

cunego59
To be fair, Martin has 71 Sprint, 75 Acceleration and so does Herrada. That's better than almost anyone there except for Kwiatkowski (who's only marginally better), so it's not like he's beating Sagan or Alaphilippe here, these are sprints where Geraint Thomas and Miguel Angel Lopez finish second or third Grin But yes, he's also had good daily forms Wink

valverde321
Wow great work. I find stages that end in downhill the easiest to win, but still great job. I hadn't known that Martin had a quick finish to him, so that could really come in handy. I won the Tour Green Jersey with Alaphilippe due to similar stats.

Croatia14
Cofidis is crushing it already, amazing!

cunego59
@valverde321: That's my experience as well. Everyone's just starts sprinting very early from wherever they are and if I'm the team with one or even two guys to lead Martin, it's pretty simple. The green jersey seems like a big task, but if he can score a stage win or two at the Tour, I'd be very happy Wink

@Croatia14: It's going well, yes Grin Surprisingly well. It's a really fun team to play with.

I indentified this race early in the year as one that we could do well in. Laporte is decent over cobblestones and I knew that if we’d get him to the line, he’d easily be among the fastest riders. And that’s how it turned out. After a terrific lead-out by Vanbilsen, Laporte held off a late charge by our good friend Giacomo Nizzolo to take our first classics win of the season.

I had hoped for a bit more and as you can see, Laporte was very close to more. Part of this was that Laporte was alone in this group, so a stronger cobblestone team will be a goal for the future.

Fantastic win by Laporte and good result at the other races. E3 could have gone better and the sprint in G-W is always messy.
I think Nizzolo is having a difficult time due to your team Pfft

In a very weird race that got blown up super early without any team really in control, Dimitri Claeys made the right moves and held on in the end to a strong fifth place, making the most of a pretty weak field.

Claeys put in way too much effort to stay with the first group for as long as he could and paid the price. He was overtaken by a lot of riders on his way to an ultimately disappointing finish. MVDP made my prophecy come true at the earliest possible date and celebrates his second monument of his career.

Again a less than ideal performance by Claeys. A bit frustrating that Piet Allegaert, who was in better shape for De Ronde and showed some promise but was ultimately hindered by his subpar abilities on the hills did not have as good a day this time. But he’ll be someone we can hopefully rely on as we improve this part of our roster in the future.
I reported Paris-Roubaix before the Itzulia Basque Country to make this more comprehensive, the post would have been too long with the Itzulia in it and I didn't want to split up the cobblestone classics. Basque Country is up next!
.

Croatia14
Classy showing quite some form in the classics, very well done! For me Rinse and Roubaix are two of the toughest races to win in PCM, so I guess you did a good job in those.
pcmdaily.com/files/Awards2019/moty.png

cunego59
I tend to struggle in cobbled races in general, so I was super happy with that fifth place in Dwars Door Vlaanderen. But that part of the team needs some serious improvements in the next years to actually compete in the monuments. And there are some interesting riders possibly available on the transfer market, so we'll see what we can do Smile

purepasd
Very well done in Catalunya and what a nice victory for Laporte. A cobbles leader would be to prefer in the transfer period, I agree.

cunego59
There are a few areas we need to improve, cobbles is certainly one of them but not the only. I hope that Cofidis increases our budget a little Wink

Another pretty successful race for us. Jesús Herrada finished in the Top 10 in every stage but the opening time trial, which limited his chances in the GC, but a strong performance on the only uphill finish on stage 5 brought him into the Top 10. He also won a stage and the points jersey! Both stages 2 and 3, while classified as flat, had a pretty steep finish.

Anthony Perez was very active in breakaways in pursuit of the mountain jersey. He got to wear it for three days and even came close to a stage win when the breakaway succeeded on day 4, but on the final stage, he lost it again to, to be honest, just superior riders. Still, his effort was much appreciated, not least by our sponsors.

On the entire team, it's actually Marco Mathis. Herrada is second. Also something that might warrant improvement Wink

valverde321
Looking somewhat lucky to avoid Sagan in the 3 mini classics, and a great win for Laporte. DDV was a great result too, and MVDP had a great classics season. Hopefully VDP and Stuyven can sweep DDV, RVV and PR in my story too Pfft

Herrada with a very strong Basque Country. Im wondering if Cofidis has the most wins of all the teams now.

cunego59
Sagan was pretty invisible the whole cobbles season, except for PR. Bit surprising, but the case of Laporte's win, I didn't mind Pfft Fingers crossed for VDP and Stuyven in your story Wink And yes, we currently lead Ineos by a few wins.

Both Herrada and Alaphilippe were caught in a crash with about 60 kilometers to go and had no impact on the result. Instead, Alejandro Valverde made the most out of this opportunity while Anthony Perez, the rider designated with the lead role after a few others including José Herrera and Nathan Haas were sent back to assist Jesús Herrada, didn’t. But it’s only a small downer on what was otherwise a great week.
