This young Kiwi cyclist is incredible in the sprints already! A very strong rider who is also a very big influence on the track! We hope to train this rider on the track but mainly with his sprints. Keep him at his roots to make him better on the road and the track! We are very excited to welcome him to the team!

Both of these riders will be joining us in August and we cannot wait to great them out on the road!

Stay tuned for more information on the upcoming season!!

Final Transfer Happenings!

Hi all!

Recently the transfer window has closed and the CT draft has been and gone! We have been in planning mode the last few days. Sorting out race days for riders and making sure we have the best teams possible to achieve our goals (will be revealed soon). Our final moves where mostly in the final hour of the transfer window and we hope that everything we have done will help us in our promotion battle!

Final Stagiare Signings

Samuele Menicucci - 22 Years Old - San Marino
Potential : 3 - XP : 1.0 - Strength : Undecided

This young rider from San Marino will be an amazing domestique in the cobbles in the future! He may not be the best rider but with great support stats and a good ability in the hills and on the cobbles he is definitely going to be great help for an eventual leader in this time in the future! He will be joining us in his first race in August!

Jimmy Muhindo - 23 Years Old - Democratic Republic of Congo
Potential : 5 - XP : 1.0 - Strength : Cobbles

Another future cobbles cyclist! This young rider has a great potential to be another great domestique and perhaps leader in the CT stage! He is unsure on what kind of training he wants to do whether it be a main focus on cobbles or classics and get slightly better at some other areas as well. He will be joining us in August and we cannot wait to see him in our colours for years to come!

Continental Tour Draft

This is a great initiative recently involved in the Continental tour. These riders essentially get signed to a team on a free wage and use their first year to develop or help the team. The team then decides at the end of the year whether or not they want to sign them and continue with the team. Last year we selected Luke Mudgway and Campbell Flakemore. Both riders where signed for this upcoming season and we cannot wait to see their new ability after their continued training throughout the off-season. This year we used the draft to sign an experienced climber and a young talent. Here they are!!

The 11th Pick of the CT Draft

Jean-Francois Camier - 32 Years Old - France
Potential : 6 - XP : MAX - Strength : Mountains

FLMOHITTSTARESRECCOBSPACCFIDHPRL

This guy is a fantastic climber! He is so strong in the mountains and will be an incredible workhorse alongside Max Oste-Macdonald in support of Kiserlovski and Campero!! We cannot wait to see our mountains squad in action with this final addition!!

The 24th Pick of the CT Draft

Dylan Sunderland - 23 Years Old - Australia
Potential : 3 - XP : 1.0 - Strength : Mountains

Dylan is a great Aussie talent in the mountains. He has a fairly good potential and will turn into great mountain support. With some training he could turn into a CT leader some day! We have great faith in Dylan and cannot wait to see him turn into the best rider he can!!

PT Loan

In the final hour we made 1 final move. We say goodbye to Sono Delgerbayar for the second season in a row to go to the PT once again in order to finally finish his training and reach his full potential! We thank Mr. Bikex of the SPAR - Siam Cement for approaching us with the proposal and cannot wait to see him in action in the Pro Tour!

When he returns he will look a little something like this...

Thankyou all for supporting us all through the transfer window! A full team presentation will follow over the next few days as well as goals and calendar announcement! We continue our planning and cannot wait for our season to begin!

Thankyou!

Sunderland is an Aussie though Wink Don't see him turning into a leader at some point, but it's nice to see him being picked up. Too bad it won't be enough for a level up..

And funny to see Delgerbayar finally maxing Grin It's been a while, since he started his pro career with Oz Cycling (must be in 2012 or 2013)!

I knew that too haha not sure why I put kiwi. Fixed now Smile

Yeh he will definitely be great mountain support but not sure about a leader. He will definitely progress over the next few seasons with us however.

Yeh it’s been a long time coming! Sono is one of only 2 riders still in my team since year 1 so it’ll be great to see him maxed!!

Goals 2019 Season

Finally it is time to release our goals for the season ahead! Very similar to past years with a focus on the local races with 2 in New Zealand, 1 in Australia and 1 abroad. We hope to achieve these goals as we believe we have assembled a strong enough team to help us get a good bid for promotion this season! Even with all of our young guys!

Gisborne GP - Gaol : WIN

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/profiles/c2_gis.jpg

Last year was incredible with Edmonson coming home in a close second to Ben Nasser. This season with no Ben Nasser and Edmonson always improving we believe we can win this year! Josh has shown he has the ability to do so and we believe with the help from Gunman and others he has a real shot at taking out our main goal!

Achieved? - N/A

Tour de Vineyards - Goal : Top 5

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/profiles/c2hc_tvy.jpg

Another home race for us! This race has not been raced since 2013 and we hope that with its return we can achieve some great results! We have strong leaders in Campero and Kiserlovski and it all depends on who we decide to send to this race. This is the real stage racers dream with a good mix of everything thrown into this race!

Achieved? - N/A

Transfagarasan GP - Top 10

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/profiles/c2hc_tra.jpg

Our only goal race abroad! A mountain classic for the C2HC division. Kiserlovski and Campero could both do really well here and we plan on sending 1 if not both of these riders to this very important race! A top 10 is definitely achievable!

Achieved? - N/A

Great Ocean Road Classic - Goal : Top 10

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/profiles/c2hc_goc.jpg

This race is usually a goal for us. A good showing here is always an important way to start the season and we expect nothing less this year. Von Hoff will probably lead a squad here and we hope to see him get a top 10!

Achieved? - N/A

CT Standings - Goal : Top 10

Finally, our standings goal for this year is a top 10! That isn't automatic promotion but it puts us into a promotional bid! We will be very happy with a top t0!

Achieved? - N/A

There you have it! We hope to have a great season this year and achieve as many goals as possible!

Next up will be the full team presentation!

Thanks!

Jersey Announcement!!

We have finally received confirmation on our jersey design and we absolutely love it!! We have stuck with the pink and added a bit of the 2017 element to really stand out! We can't thank the designer the_hoyle enough for his continued incredible work for the last 2 seasons!

We also had a bit of a sponsor hiccup with Felt Bicycles pulling out very late into the preseason because of an issue with some of our decisions. However, have no fear! BMC is here! They have jumped in and helped us out to provide us with some amazing BMC bicycles for our team to compete with!

As another team with a heavy pink element, I love it! Awesome design that will be incredible easy to spot in the CT races.

That is an awesome jersey. It looks like the jersey game has been stepped up in the CT this year.

Final Confirmerd Squad Presentation!

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen to the 2019 BNZ Cycling Team rider Presentation!

Okay so obviously it isn't that formal here but its still a big deal! We are finally able to share with you our full squad, squad abilities and even their wage for the upcoming 2019 season!! So without further ado, the 2019 BNZ Cycling Team roster!!

i.imgur.com/DfUs8cV.png

We are so very excited to see this squad in action! Especially with Edmondson's improved hill ability we hope that he can continue his amazing career at BNZ Cycling Team and that even though we have a young squad, a lot of future talents and honestly, not that many experienced and known scorers, we will need everyone to pitch in to aim for promotion!

Short side note

- Sono Delgerbayar is on loan to SPAR - Siam Cements in order to fully develop as a rider
- Nicholas Schultz is on loan to bennelong-mitchelton in order to fully develop as well! We wish both riders the very best for the upcoming season!

Thankyou for joining us today! Please check our initial posts in the website in order for a more in depth look at the squad!

Clasico San Cristobal

The start of the season is finally upon us. We head to Cuba for the start of the season and we hoped it to be a good one! Edmondson got a podium here last season and we were hoping for another one this season. However, it wasn't meant to be. Joshua didn't show his face until the final few kms which was the perfect place to be as he made the decisive break of favourites. However, he seemed to be lacking the punch and attack that he had in the early part of last season.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/CSS/CSS%2011.jpg

As you can see he is in the yellow helmet pushing hard in this image with less then 1 kilometre to go.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/CSS/CSS%2013.jpg

However, with 200m to go he just couldn't keep up his speed and quickly faded off from the cyclists competing for the win. Chaves took a great win for AZTECA and Edmondson struggling all the way to the line came home in a still fantastic and very respectable 8th place. Not the start we wanted but still a great start overall for the squad!

Manager Reactions:

Look I can't be unhappy with an 8th place. We did want more however Josh can't feel 100% every race. Day 1 of the season and an 8th place is more then okay. We move forward now with Joshya moving his focus on the Tour Down Under starting in a few days and we can't wait to see what he can come away with in the Australian stage race!

Tour Down Under

The Australian season opener is here and as usual, draws a rather big field! After the race in Cuba, we hoped that Edmondson would be able to continue pushing his form, and that Von Hoff could start his season off with a bang!

Stages 1 & 2 were very quiet for us. Edmondson showed his face only near the front in the final sprint finishing in the top 30, while all other riders were way back. Early days and no lost time for our leader so we definitely were not unhappy about the start.

Stage 3 was a big one! We hit 1 big climb at the finale of the stage and the favourites were loving it! A big attack from Gautier caused lots of responses including our own Edmondson!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C1/TdU/mg19_tdu_03_PCM0043.jpg

Gautier stayed ahead and took the stage win and the GC. Edmondson pushed home for 3rd place in the stage and moves to 3rd overall only 10s behind!

The rest of the stages were very quiet GC wise. No attacks on Willunga hill like many would have though. The sprinters closer to the GC took advantage and pushed until the final line on stage 6. In the end Holloway took the victory on stage 6 and the final GC with him! Edmondson's sleeve can be seen in this shot as he finished 25th on the final day and 6th overall in the GC.

Manager Reactions:

I'm not exactly happy about the overall race, however I am happy with our GC Result! 6th overall is a much better result then last year. 3rd place on Stage 3 was a great result as well. Much better results then this race last year however I do think we have a lot more to offer! This is the bottom line for the rest of the season! I want to see constant and consistent improvement!

Vuelta al Tachira

From Australia straight over to Venezuela. The Vuelta al Tachira is the first mountain stage of the season and a very important one on the CT calendar. We are expecting big things from the first appearance of Robert Kiserlovski here. A hard field with both Pinot and Intxausti however, we thought a top 3 is very possible for Kiserlovski in this race!

We have a rather strong squad here with Kiserlovksi (leader), Altanzul (sprinter), Camier, Erdenebat, Erdenesuren, Mudgway, Oste-Macdonald and Sunderland.

We wanted a strong start to the tour on the first flat stage and we got just that. A strong GCN team had Mohs who is the big favourite and showed that by taking the win. We showed we are also a force to be reckoned with and Altanzul's first day as sprint leader was incredible as he took 2nd on the day with a super strong finish!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/vat/vat-01-013.jpg

Altanzul continued his great sprinting into stage 2 with a 6th place coming 2nd in the field as a breakaway of 4 took the victory. Mohs finished 5th ahead of Altanzul (green jersey caretaker).

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/vat/vat-02-011.jpg

Stage 3 saw another 2nd place for Altanzul! He finished behind Luke Keough for an amazing consistent start to the tour!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/vat/vat-03-009.jpg

The hills began on stage 4 however it was a rather boring stage which came down to a big bunch sprint. Altanzul was at the front along with Kiserlovski. In the end, they came 4th and 6th. A great start for BNZ to the tour. Altanzul took the green jersey out right on this stage!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/vat/vat-04-011.jpg

Stage 5 saw another 5th place finish for Altanzul and his amazing consistency continues!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/vat/vat-05-015.jpg

Day 1 in the mountains and Kiserlovski has forgotten how to attack or follow attacks. He waited until the final 3km to finally push it and try to catch Pinot and Intxausti. He finished in 5th over 1 minute behind the winner. Still, plenty of time to hold or make a top 3!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/vat/vat-06-019.jpg

A climbing ITT, Kiserlovski's favourite day! Thankfully he showed everyone today why he is a favourite and still a top CT climber! He took the win by 15 seconds to 2nd place and gained 33 seconds on Intxausti and 48 on Pinot!! First victory of the year for BNZ!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/vat/vat-07-014.jpg

Stage 8 was a huge day. However, Kiserlovski still doesn't know how to attack and loses some time. He had a huge gap but pulled it back to 23 seconds at the end of the stage with a huge effort! He finished 6th on the day and sits at 3rd on GC!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/vat/vat-08-020.jpg

Final mountain day and Kiserlovski struggled again to stay with the top 2. He finished 4th place 38 seconds behind Faiers who took the win and overtook Robert on GC.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/vat/vat-09-023.jpg

Final day, The hill stage again finishes in a bunch sprint. Kiserlovski (seen in the polka dot jersey) finishes in 5th place as the team doesn't have a rider outside the top 6 in all 10 stages.

Managers Reactions:

I was hoping for a top 3 but 4th is a great results. As well as Altanzul being very consistent and Kiserlovski's stage win, we have a great hope to continue this all season! Great start to the year and moving onto the next race!

Great Ocean Road Classic

Back to Australia we go for one of the most unpredictable races in the MG calendar. You never know what's going to happen here because of the heavy cross winds and early season form. We have Steele Von Hoff here in order to try and achieve our goal of a top 10 here in Australia.

Joel Yates joins the breakaway for the day and settles in for a huge fight to stay away!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2HC/GORC/gorc-002.jpg

Not sure what the boys were thinking here. Luckily it didn't amount to too much damage in the early parts of the race!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2HC/GORC/gorc-004.jpg

Only 1 BNZ rider is seen at the front close to the finish.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2HC/GORC/gorc-010.jpg

But once again the breakaway takes the win. Reckweg from Netia-Vonin is the winner. the fight for 3rd is big and Von Hoff is sprinting but very far back. He finishes only managing 18th place and a goal failed for the team.

Manager Reactions:

Look, we were hoping for more. Steele has struggled so far this season (including Tour de Langkawi, report to follow) and its alarming to see that one of our highest scorers of last season is struggling this year. We hope he can bounce back. We know this is a hard race but we know Von Hoff is capable of a top 10 and that is what we should have achieved. Not happy with our result today. Hoping for much better in the future!

Tour de Langkawi

Off to Malaysia we went for the Tour de Langkawi. We had high hopes for this race. Day 1 was a bit underwhelming with our best rider Taylor Gunman in 16th. Stage 2 was a sprint day. Steele Von Hoff has been struggling all through January however today managed a good 8th place.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/Langkawi/S2/14.jpg

Stage 3 was a mountain day. Campero struggled all day long. He could only manage 30th 2'18s down. He is now in 24th overall over 2 and a half minutes down.

Back to the flats for stage 4. Von Hoff had a great opening acceleration and took the lead with around 600m to go. However he couldn't hold on and only managed 5th place.

Stage 5 saw Reddish jump into the breakaway.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/Langkawi/S5/02.jpg

Campero struggled again today in the mountains. He finished with his teammate Oste-Macdonald 3'53s behind the winner. Campero moves into 20th overall however still very far behind on GC.

Stage 6 was rather disappointing overall. Von Hoff could only manage 13th. Lets move on.

Stage 7 was the final flat stage. We got both Sunderland and Reddish into the breakaway.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/Langkawi/S7/05.jpg

Reddish was so close but got far too tired near the end and finished 12th. Von Hoff passed Reddish and finished 8th to finish the Tour de Langkawi with a top 10.

Managers Reactions:

A rather disappointing race. No stage win and no top 10 overall. Campero with 20th overall is disappointing and we hope he can improve over the season. Von Hoff showed promise as we move towards the most important and busy part of the season. Overall a race to forget however a lot of promise.

Ras Tailteann

A 3 day sprinters frenzy! This race has attracted some of the strongest sprinters in the peloton today including the likes of Mark Cavendish, Holloway and Guarnieri.

Day 1 we managed to get Gunman into the attack.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C1/RasT/S1/02.jpg

He won the 2nd sprint point and came 3rd in final sprint point. Jacopo Guarnieri took the stage win with our best rider being Von Hoff in 28th place. Gunman sits in 11th overall.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C1/RasT/S1/15.jpg

Stage 2 we missed the attack. However, with around 35km to go Reddish follows an attack. These attacks cause a split in the pack.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C1/RasT/S2/07.jpg

1.5km left we can see Gunman in this group yet to turn the corner in the yellow helmet. He would go on to finish 23rd on the day and remain in 15th overall.

The final stage of Ras Tailteann. We once again missed the attack. However, nearing the end of the stage we are seen with 1 rider near the front.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C1/RasT/S3/07.jpg

That rider was Taylor Gunman who had a great sprint finishing in 14th place on the day.

Managers Reactions:

Gunman kind of saved our race here. Still very disappointing however Gunman got us 19th on GC and a good final day with 14th place. We still expect so much more from the boys especially in Steele's sprinting ability. This race is definitely one to move on and forget about for all riders except Gunman.
