Sounds great, facman. It seems like we're using the same DB. I'm also in charge of Team Columbia, and I have the exact same goals. Well done! |

Thanks for the moral support! B) I've had a very good first season in some respects (podiums in a lot of stage races), but not in others (sprinters have been rubbish). But overall I'm very happy.
@CrueTrue
I noticed that you'd started a Team Columbia game too, good luck to you! - I'm using Dankan's Plus Package, which I like a lot - never tried the ASO DB though.....
@Smoothie
Cavendish has been quite quiet so far - loads of bad setting up by me ruined his season Pretty much all of the games I've played so far have been with climber teams (mainly Euskaltel), so I'm still learning the best way to set up the sprint. Fortunately, I'm getting better at it, and Cav is peaking for the Tour of Britain as his final personal goal, so I'm hoping to get a few stage wins there. The reason I chose Columbia was to force me to get a bit better at controlling sprint teams - 5 very good sprinters in the squad with exceptional lead out men too!
As a Brit you will be very happy to know that Wiggins won two ITT stages, one in the TDF and one in the ENECO tour (memory failing me but I think that's right!), and came second or third I think in another one. His TT stat is now 80!
btw - I only use preseason and leisure training camps, I stopped using any others as it was a bit too easy for me to get all-conquering mountaineers!

All AI sprinters are faster than they should be for no reason at all. It's a big problem in this version. The biggest problem of this year's game, in my opinion.

So have most people. Seems to be a fad.

it's usually considered cheating to use training camps for that same reason: AI doesn't use it, so it's just like editing your savegame or using the "freire" cheat

I always see Columbia as a neutral team and you can sign pretty much anyone without it looking odd |

I signed Piepoli as a free agent in the new carer

Now now, I'm bald too!
Anyway, I've just checked my season stats and I was fairly accurate, but here are the important wins etc:
Kirchen:
4 stage wins, 2nd in Pais Vasco and Dauphine Libere
3rd in Romandie and Tour de France
5th in Giro
currently 3rd in overall table behind Valverde and Evans
Hincapie:
4 stage wins, 1st in Tour of California (+ Points jersey)
2nd in MSR, 3rd in Paris Roubaix and GP de Plouay
Gerdemann:
Won German Championships, 1 stage win, Tour de Romandie Mountain jersey,Tour de France Youth Ranking, won GP de San Sebastian
5th in Tour de France, 11th in Giro
Lovkvist:
2 stage wins, Vuelta Valenciana Mountain and Youth jerseys, Tirreno-Adriatico Points and Youth jerseys
2nd in Tirreno-Adriatico
Rogers:
Aussie championships, 4 stage wins, Tour Down Under Mountain jersey, Vuelta Valenciana, Paris-Nice win (+points jersey), Pais Vasco win (+ points), GP Miguel Indurain
Notice the distinct lack of sprinters in the list!
Still, a good few podiums and wins so I'm chuffed.
PS Lovkvist just had a good 9th stage of the Vuelta and is up to 13th in the GC |

I have a question about careers in general...don't know if this is the best place to ask it, but here goes:
If you start with a CT team with a REALLY small budget ( < 500,000), is it possible through many wins and seaons to get a budget large enough to compete at the PT level?
I've never played with a CT team before, but I think I'm gonna start one soon. |

I had a career with the Slovenien team Perutnina Ptuj, trying to promote them to the protour. Unfortunately with a few races to go they were set to finish just behind Agritubel and Garmin in third but it was still a great season. Despite the third place in the team rankings the team only achieved 4 victories in total (2 Mahoric, 1 Fajt, 1 Kvasina). I also managed to sign a future great stage racer and signed loads of young talents which would have given us a good shot at promotion for the following year.
I was looking forward especailly to the following season when my computer totally messed up, so everything has to be re-installed |

I have a savegame with Health Net at the moment. First season I had a budget of about 280k. I completed 3 of my 5 goals and finished 9th in the CT. At the start of my 2nd season my budget has been increased to over 2 million, and my salary cap has tripled. It should be possible for me to have a good go at promotion this season. |

It was one of the main problems of PCM07, so Cyanide definitely improved that part in this year's edition. |

One of the main problems in PCM 08 however is the, in my opinion, bizarre development of riders.
Thomas Dekker and Andy Schleck getting surpassed within a year by the likes of John Devine...while their potential is higher. And then your 5 seasons further, and suddenly Dekker and Schleck surpass Devine again, by the time the latter won has already won 3 tours. It's just...weird |

Yeah, the difrent development is a good thing, if it's passed in with the riders, fx. A Schleck and Dekker will ofcourse have an early peak, not a late one, while others who should have a late peak has a late one.

In my Columbia game he only devolved to a 77 mt.

Team Columbia End of Season 1 update
Finished the season better than hoped for in my previous posts.
Rogers managed to bag a 2nd place in the Deutschland Tour with a marvellous ITT at the end, and also came away with the points jersey!
He then went on to get a 3rd place in the Tour of Poland to round off an excellant season for him.
Burghardt claimed 3rd in the Vattenfall Cyclassics.
Cavendish and Wiggins both came away with stage victories in the Tour of Britain, and Cav only narrowly missed the points jersey due to a cock-up on my part in one of the sprints!
Lovkvist recovered in the Vuelta from 20th place to 8th overall, helped by a solo stage win and good TT in the final week. Konstantin Siutsou also romped to the climbers jersey. Menchov won the Vuelta overall.
Dekker won the World Championship Road Race, but the Brits stormed to 1st place and 4th in the Time Trial with Millar and Wiggins respectively!
Finally, Wiggins and Rogers topped off a great first season for Columbia with a 1st and 3rd in the Chrono des Nations.
Columbia just managed to hold off CSC for top spot in the ProTour, and the sponsors were very happy!
Goals for the new season:
Win the Tour of California
Win the Tirreno Adriatico
Top 3 in the Giro
Win the Tour
Top 5 in the Vuelta
.....easy!?!
Right, off to bed now and looking forward to the tour down Under tomorrow. |
