Is the height in metres and length in kilometres?

no, they decided to use the metric system for the length and a completely random other system for height.
silly questions

The profile is not clear enough about the route to make any conclusions about the difficulty of the climb. I've heard that the climb is difficult over not more than 600 meters, but that the climb is very long and in plateau's and that the most important fact to win is the fittnes of the rider. So a Bettini have enough change to win his second title. |

You never know about the chinese, it also looks much harder than it is, the climb is only around 3% average.

that's nothing! still, with the awful air quality in china, it will be harder than usual. all the riders will collapse. |

I don't know. The race is far from a big city, so the air there has to be more fresh than in Bejing. I think that de air around the Champs-Elysees is more awful than on the olympic roads in China. |

You clearly havnt been to beijing
the pollution is 10* worse than anything in europe. The only plus side is that they and stoping almost all fumes for the next 3 weeks so hopefully it will get better

But still, jaap's point still stands that the race itself isnt in the polluted areas. Yes, it starts in Tiananmen Square (Sp?) but then it heads out of Beijing on the early flat section before entering the more challenging circuit section which includes the race's climb.

It's out at the great wall, which proberbly has something to do with propaganda, and when they rode a preolympic race last august, Evans said that his loungs, turned inside out, due to the hard course and the very bad air.

Craig MacLean os too old now and not in form
He's a machine though and it's great to see him in action. I was at the velodrome when he was up against Tournant in the sprint. Stupid Tournant beat him, but set a world record as well...
MacLean's just a powerhouse, a machine. But too old now and not as good as he used to be
He's still a beef though

Hmm, I wonder, does 'BBC1 Men's RR 06:00-11:00 Olympic Breakfast' mean that theyre showing the road race live or just having an Olympic themed 'Breakfast' (Morning chat show basically) with occasional cuts to the road race every 30 minutes?
