I don't know, but I doubt people consider Paolo Bettini, a two-time world champion and olympic gold medal winner, not a great rider because he never won a grand tour |

MrFredthebob,
In case you didn't know I am one of the members who thinks that this is a forum and you really have to be annoying to get on someones bad side. YOU ARE ON MY BAD SIDE. To purposely try to annoy me because you are bored is straight bull. If you are gonna call people rubbish look up the facts. I asked you why he was rubbish and you have yet to give me an answer. A lot of great riders have one the Tour de l'Abitibi including a couple of Grand Tours winners. He has already had great results and is looking great. If Addy is snapping at you then you have really crossed the line because I rarely if not never see Addy get angry. Maybe you should find better things to do if you are bored because doing it this way just makes everyone respect you less. Right now you think these guys are pissed at you the only guys online now are the more understanding crowd. Later you will have to deal with the people who don't have time for Bullshit so they will be even harsher on you. So for your sake SHUT UP!!!!!!!

Plus he's not a GT rider, as of now. Things can change, but for me hes gonna be a badass track rider, and tter, as well as an exceptional sprinter.

Phinney will not win a grand tour. Unless he pulls some really serious power out of his extremely tall-ass body he will not win a GT. He will be a Cancellara, with boonens sprint and Wiggins Pursuiting abilites.
His biggest successes will come on the road, the guy said that training for track racing is not fun.
as for his results on the pro curcuit he does not have any beyond his track wins. He does not race on the pro curcuit so therefore he has no results. He is still a junior.
Phinney will be a great rider if he sticks with it, which will most likely be the case because he was not pressured by his parents to start racing he did so of his own accord.
I have officially weighed in on the issue of T-Phin.
If you are trying to find the next American to stand atop the podium in Paris you have to look for Phinney's teamate Stetina or Tom Peterson. Phinney does not ahve the power to weight ratio to stand on the top step.
If he ever wins a Tour though I will crawl to his home in Boulder Colorado and kiss his feet. Even then I will be a very happy dude.

(VN stands for velonews, TP stands for taylor phinney)
VN: Where do you see yourself in five years?
TP: On a ProTour team racing the spring classics and the Tour, oh, and an Olympic gold medalist in the pursuit in 2012. Roubaix is my kind of race. But I think I could be good at the Ardennes classics but the cobbles are more my forte. I’ve raced the junior Paris-Roubaix and it showed me I could be good at it. I crashed three times and flatted. With 30k to go I bridged up to the leading group of 30 but just as I made contact there was another crash right in front of me that put me in a ditch. I was about to get on my bike and I saw that I had a flat tire so I was just sitting there waiting for my team car but they didn’t see me crash and thought I was still up in the lead group. So I ended up in the broom wagon. But it showed me I was capable of being up there.
VN: What do you like better, road or track?
TP: I think eventually for me it’s all about the road.
(I have had the privelage of racing with him B) ) |

Vaughters said a few months ago that his expectation of Phinney is as a 3-week tour rider. I don't see it at all, but time will tell.

he is the junior world champ.. doesn't say much, that junior world champ from Tunisia is nowhere to be found now... Anybody know what happened to him?
It's the same in every sport: a huge number of big promises never end up doing anything as professionals.
