it keeps getting better. I just didn't like the first few environments.

If you haven't played MGS1 (the 1998 one), do it now. Otherwise you won't get any of the in-jokes in MGS4. and believe me, there are a lot of them and they're impossible to miss. Not to mention brilliant. And if you haven't played MGS1, I guarantee you won't get a single one of them.

So you know one fifth of the backstory (that's 1 out of 5 MGS games, not counting this latest one). you're not gonna understand much of the plot at all, I fear

You're in better position than me. This is my first MGS, apart from playing the demo from MGS3 and having MGS1 from one of my mates during one week...B)

yeah i just finished 4. the only thing bad about it was that if you dont know the backstory from all the others, your going to be lost through most of it. Ive played and beaten them all several times and i still havnt really figured out everything in the story, but its definatly a great game, best of the year so far, and will be until patch 2 comes out for pcm...but i think i hit near 6 hours of nothin but high def cg goodness, thats cutscenes by the way...they definatly leave it open for a mgs5 |

Finished it. What a brilliant game.
Caution: As with every single metal gear, see the credits until the end, because at the end of them, a lot more revelations come.
And wow. just wow. I never saw that coming, at the end.
Best. Game. Ever. I estimate that someone not having played any of the previous metal gears will lose approximately one inside joke each 3-4 mins of cutscenes.
By the way, the final cutscene is about an hour long or so...

Any guess on who long the playtime is? And i do mean "playtime", not time it takes to actually complete it with cut-scenes
And GTA is for Crue what RFoM is for me, albeit older. And less epic.
